CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES

Season 02 Episode 02  “Justice Society of America” (Date: 20 Oct 2016)
Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/10/21/dcs-legends-of-tomorrow-easter-eggs-and-other-things-you-may-hav/

  1. THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA – The Justice Society of America is DC Comics’s first superhero team — both in the real world and in terms of publishing history. The Justice Society of America was conceived by editor Sheldon Mayer and writer Gardner Fox. The JSA first appeared in All Star Comics #3 (Winter 1940–1941).
  2. VIXEN – Probably the most recognizable member of the JSA’s cast this time around was Vixen — at least for fans of the CWverse. In addition to having her own animated series, Vixen — an African-American woman who derives the power of animals from the Tantu Totem she wears around her neck — had a memorable guest appearance on Arrow last season. Of course, that’s all Mari. This woman? Mari’s grandmother, Amaya Jiwe, who passed the totem down through their family.
  3. HOURMAN – Rex Tyler, also known as Hourman, is a Golden Age superhero and the first of a number of characters to use the Hourman name. Tyler has a number of superhuman abilities, like enhanced strength, reflexes, and healing — but only for an hour at a time. His abilities are given to him by Miraclo, a drug he designed himself. There is an Hourman legacy including Rex’s son Rick and an android from the 853rd Century programmed to act as a member of the Tyler family. The android, at a point in the past, presented Rex with an hourglass infused with tachyons — time in its most basic form — and that hourglass would become part of both his and Rick’s costumes. Said hourglass has been seen on board the Waverider on previous episodes of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow..
  4. STARGIRL – Stargirl is Courtney Whitmore. In the TV series, she exists in 1942 — but in the original comics, she was created (and existed) in 1999, and was part of a “next generation” of Justice Society members who came up in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Courtney Whitmore was created by Geoff Johns and Lee Moder, and has a famous backstory: Johns named her after (and based her personality on) his sister Courtney, who died in the explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996.
  5. COMMANDER STEEL – Commander Steel is Hank Heywood, Sr., the first in a line of DC heroes to use variations on the Steel moniker. A legend in the World War II era and a member of the All-Star Squadron and later the Justice Society of America, Heywood’s body had surgically-implanted mechanized steel devices that allowed his body to work on a superhuman level. Originally just “Steel,” he was promoted to Commander Steel by President Roosevelt in 1940 — so while this is his first appearance in live action, it’s timeline-accurate to call him Commander Steel by this point in his career since the story takes place in 1942.
  6. DOCTOR MID-NITE – Doctor Mid-Nite is a name shared by a number of blind super-heroes and physicians with the ability to see in the darkness, using blackout bombs and martial arts to gain an advantage over criminals. Doctor Mid-Nite was created by Charles Reizenstein and Stan Aschmeier, first appearing in All-American Comics #25.
  7. OBSIDIAN – Obsidian is the son of Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott, a founding member of the JSA in the comics. He and his sister Jade would go on to play an important role in the Justice Society’s sinoff groups the Young All-Stars and Infinity, Inc., as well as eventually joining the Justice Society itself. He was also briefly affiliated with the Justice League.
  8. LEAVENWORTH – The United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in northeast Kansas. On Arrow, it was revealed that Leavenworth is where John Diggle is being held while awaiting his court martial.
  9. KRIEGER – There are basically two figures who could have inspired Baron Krieger, even though there is no specific Baron Krieger in DC Comics. The first is Baron Blitzkrieg: Originally a World War II German army officer, the man who would be Baron Blitzkrieg was blinded when a concentration camp prisoner threw acid into his face. German scientists experimented on him, giving him injections of experimental drugs which would give him incredible powers for brief periods of time. The other possibility is Albrecht Krieger, who was basically Captain America, but for Nazis. A genetically-modified super-soldier, Krieger also had a mad scientist brother and a psychic  sister we might have to worry about if it’s him — and while the backstory feels a lot more like Blitzkrieg’s, Krieger has not only the name but the general look of this week’s threat.
  10. MAX LORENZ – Max Lorenz was a famous singer, who lived in Germany around the time of World War II and is widely known as “Hitler’s favorite tenor.” Of course, it’s a handy thing that Legends of Tomorrow star Victor Garber has the pipes to make that scene convincing.
  11. UBERMENSCH – It’s worth noting that there are several references to “Übermensch” in here, which is derived from Nietzsche in Thus Spake Zarathustra, one of the influences for Superman, which is more or less what the word translates to directly. The term can literally translate to “Overman,” which in the DC Comics universe is an alternate-universe version of Superman who lives on an Earth where the Nazis won World War II.REVERSE-FLASH – Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, may have something up his sleeve. At the end of The Flash’s Season 3 premiere earlier this month, he said that while his future was as it should be, Barry’s might not be. Barry then went home to discover a number of small anomalies that made his life and those of his friends worse. Now, we learn that “somebody” is outfitting the villains of history with future tech in order to push the world to a slightly worse place. Could Eobard Thawne have stepped right out of “Flashpoint” and into “Out of Time?” Either way, seeing him and Darhk together is enough to make seasoned Arrowverse fans quake in their boots even before they know the other members of Thawne’s little Legion of Doom.

  1. THE CW RENEWS ARROW, FLASH, SUPERGIRL AND LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (Date: 08 Jan 2017)
Renewal will bring “Arrow” to Season Six, “The Flash” to Season Four, and “Supergirl” and “Legends of Tomorrow” each to Season Three. It will mark “Supergirl’s” second season on The CW, following its freshman outing on CBS.

  2. Laurel Lance’s Return Is Further Teased In Synopsis For ARROW Season 5, Episode 10 (Date: 06 Jan 2017)
OLIVER WANTS JUSTICE; FELICITY WANTS REVENGE — Worried that Prometheus is right and he is truly a killer at heart, Oliver (Stephen Amell) looks for any ray of hope and finds it in what seems to be the miraculous return of Laurel Lance (guest star Katie Cassidy). However, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), still reeling from Detective Malone’s murder, is bent on revenge – she wants to stop Prometheus at any cost. While in prison, Diggle (David Ramsey) fights for his life. Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Ben Sokolowski & Brian Ford Sullivan.

  3. ARROW: THE CALCULATOR IS NOT RETURNING – YET (Date: 09 Jan 2017)
According to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, Donna and the Calculator won’t be back because the show is moving in a new direction. Guggenheim also teased that Felicity will a meet a few people in the back half of the season that are connected to her past. Additionally, he explained that Felicity’s new, darker direction can’t be blamed solely on Billy Malone’s death. Rather, her experiences over the course of the show will culminate in her new attitude. “Billy was the final straw,” he said. “It’s also the sum of the fact that Felicity has been living in this darker world for the last four-plus years now…. How has that affected her way of thinking about things?” He added that this will be directly addressed in Season 5 Episode 11.

  4. ARROW: Greg Berlanti Teases More Appearances From Laurel Lance Across The CW (Date: 10 Jan 2017)
While it hasn’t been confirmed 100%, it’s a pretty safe bet that this Laurel is the evil Black Siren from Earth 2, who was originally introduced in The Flash last year. While her motivations remain unknown, Arrow producer Greg Berlanti has teased the character’s involvement in more than just the events of Arrow’s fifth season. “We made a deal at the end of [season 4] to bring her back for a bunch of episodes. Katie is a part of the fabric of the show. Because the show, like a comic book, can move in different ways, and characters go and come, everybody that’s ever been a part of the key and core ensemble has always had a place at the table for our show. There’s the capacity for her to be [in all four shows]. At this moment, she’s in three of them.”

  5. ARROW EPS ADMIT IT’S HARD TO DO THE SHOW WITHOUT A BLACK CANARY (Date: 11 Jan 2017)
Co-showrunner Wendy Mericle said, “Look, it’s hard to do a show about Green Arrow without having a Black Canary. I don’t know if it will happen this season or when, but… we are going to be true to origins in the DC universe, and she’s always going to be there.” So far on the show, three characters have carried the Canary name: Sara Lance, Laurel Lance and Evelyn Sharp.

GENERAL DC TV NEWS

  1. The Mystery Surrounding Rip Hunter Is Revealed In New LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Synopsis (Date: 05 Jan 2017)
LOST MEMORIES — When Damien Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough) and Malcolm Merlyn (guest star John Barrowman) try to capture Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) in 1967, they create an Aberration big enough to draw the attention of the Legends.  However, when the team arrives they discover that Rip has no memories of his past due to “time drift” and is just a graduate film student. After trying to convince Rip of who he was, they discover that he possesses an incredibly powerful artifact known as the Spear of Destiny, which the Legion of Doom is after. Ray (Bradon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) realize that the Aberration has also affected them personally making it difficult to help the team.  Meanwhile, Rory (Dominic Purcell) asks Stein (Victor Garber) for help and makes him promise to keep it a secret from the team. Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also star. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Keto Shimizu & Chris Fedak.

  2. NEW LEGENDS OF TOMORROW EPS WILL STAR A WHOLE DIFFERENT RIP HUNTER (Date: 10 Jan 2017)
The back half of season two kicks off on Tuesday, January 24 after the show’s winter hiatus. That batch of episodes starts with an episode titled “Raiders of the Lost Art,” which guest stars a young George Lucas (or rather an actor named Matt Angel playing a young Lucas) and features the return of Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill). But Rip won’t return the same as we previously knew him. Marc Guggenheim talked about the upcoming episodes and how the Spear of Destiny will impact the show. “The second half of the season is really paying off the Legion of Doom and what we now know is the MacGuffin of Season 2, the Spear of Destiny,” said Guggenheim. “Changing time is like painting with the biggest paintbrush possible; using the Spear of Destiny is like using a very, very fine-point technical pen.”

  3. The Girl Of Steel Visits Another World In Synopsis For Kevin Smith’s Episode Of SUPERGIRL (Date: 05 Jan 2017)
KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara’s disappearance, fearing she’s become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister. Kevin Smith directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Eric Carrasco & Jess Kardos.

  5. Wally West Steps Up As Kid-Flash In Synopsis For THE FLASH Season 3, Episode 10 (Date: 05 Jan 2017)
BARRY FIGHTS FOR IRIS — Barry (Grant Gustin) is tormented by his vision of the future where Iris (Candice Patton) is murdered by Savitar. When a criminal named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) shows up in Central City, Barry recalls the villain’s presence in his vision of the future and fears that if he catches Plunder, it will cement Iris’ fate. Confused about Barry’s hesitation to stop Plunder, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) decides to step in as Kid Flash. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) offers Julian (Tom Felton) a job. Millicent Shelton directed the episode written by Grainne Godfree & David Kob.

  6. SUPERGIRL / FLASH MUSICAL WILL HAVE ‘GREAT IMPACT’ ON BOTH SHOWS (Date: 09 Jan 2017)
The upcoming musical crossover between “Supergirl” and “The Flash” isn’t just going to be a fun gimmick. According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, the two-part story will have lasting ramifications on both shows. According to Kreisberg. “When we get to the musical episodes, both Barry and Kara will find themselves at pivotal crossroads on their respective series, and the experience of going through the musical will have a great impact on both series moving forward.” Executive producer Greg Berlanti confirmed the villain will indeed be the Music Meister, who can control people through song. What’s more, the musical crossover will feature original songs and could include characters from any Earth or timeline in the “Arrow”-verse. No date has been announced for “The Flash”/”Supergirl” crossover.

  7. DC COMICS’ SOLOVAR ARRIVES IN FLASH’S TWO-PART GORILLA CITY STORY (Date: 09 Jan 2017)
“The Flash” is taking a trip to Gorilla City in episodes 13 and 14 of season three. The series will also introduce a new telepathic gorilla straight from the comics, Solovar. Keith David will provide the voice of Solovar in the Gorilla Grodd-centric two-parter. David is a film and television veteran with a career spanning decades. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg announced the return of Grodd and Gorilla City during a presentation at the TCAs. Kreisberg also revealed that the two-parter will span multiple Earths. “One of the episodes will take place in Gorilla City [on Earth-2], and one of them will take place on Earth-1.” In the comics, Solovar — a psychic gorilla like Grodd — is the leader of Gorilla City. Under his rule, Gorilla City became a technological wonder. Solovar’s involvement in “The Flash’s” Grodd/Gorilla City two-parter makes sense considering that Solovar is Grodd’s main rival (other than the Scarlet Speedster) in the comics.

  8. BLACK FLASH TO RETURN ON ‘MULTIPLE’ ARROWVERSE SERIES (Date: 08 Jan 2017)
As expected, “The Flash” viewers haven’t seen the last of Hunter “Zoom” Zolomon. However, when the character returns, it may not only be on that CW drama — and he may not be portrayed by Teddy Sears. Transformed by time wraiths into Black Flash and then pulled into the Speed Force in “The Flash’s” Season Two finale, the villain will indeed race back into the Arrowverse.“I will say that you might be seeing him on multiple shows,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. He didn’t say which shows those are, or when fans can expect Black Flash’s return. “[Black Flash] is a classic character. We have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him around,” he said. “There’s something so scary about him, something even scarier than when he was just the man, because now it’s now he is the Grim Reaper, he is the devil. How do you stop the devil? So it presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears.”

  9. ‘Constantine’ Back As Animated Series For CW Seed With Greg Berlanti Producing (Date: 08 Jan 2017)
Constantine, which had a one-season run on NBC, will be back as an animated series for CW Seed. Five to six 10-minute episodes have been ordered. Matt Ryan, who starred in the live-action DC series, will voice the title character.

  10. SUPERGIRL CASTS PETER GADIOT AS MISTER MXYZPTLK (Date: 07 Jan 2017)
A new photo from the set of the CW drama reveals that actor Peter Gadiot, who played Cyrus on ABC’s short-lived “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” has been cast as the classic Superman foe. However, we can see that the impish villain won’t look anything like he does in the DC Comics source material, where he’s traditionally depicted as an older, diminutive character. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Ira Yarborough for 1944’s “Superman” #30, Mister Mxyzptlk is a mischievous imp from the fifth dimension who delights in tormenting the Man of Steel.

  11. THE CW HAS ‘NO PLANS’ FOR A SUPERMAN SERIES (Date: 08 Jan 2017)
“Tyler did a great job,” The CW President Mark Pedowitz said. “There’s no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to ‘Supergirl’]. If they wish to have him return, we’d love to have him.”

  12. THE FLASH Will Weave Kid Flash, Killer Frost And Gypsy Story Arcs Into Remaining Season 3 Episodes (Date: 07 Jan 2017)
Armed with that knowledge Barry and his allies will be frantically searching for ways to prepare for an inevitable second round with the God of Speed. As for the rest of Team Flash, the co-showrunner adds that Gypsy (played by the recently cast Jessica Camacho of Sleepy Hollow) will be playing an important adversarial role in Cisco’s budding superhero career, Caitlin will continue to wrestle with her Killer Frost alter ego and Wally West will continue to fly off the handle and cause trouble as Kid Flash.

    * Robbie Amell is slated to reprise his role as Ronnie Raymond in an upcoming episode of The Flash, EW has learned exclusively.

CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES

Season 02 Episode 01  “Out of Time” (Date: 13 Oct 2016)
Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/10/13/dcs-legends-of-tomorrow-things-you-might-have-missed-in-out-of-t/

  1. Out of Time – As has been the case a lot in the first couple of weeks of The CW’s TV season, the episode’s title — “Out of Time” — is a bit of a reference in and of itself. It’s likely been the name of a number of time travel-related stories — but most recently, it was the name of a story that ran through The Flash #30-35 (from the 2011 series) and featured, among other villains, The Reverse-Flash. The fact that the final moments of the episode incorporate the “surprise” appearance of Eobard Thawne, then, suggests this could have been a more-than-incidental use of the name.
  2. OLIVER QUEEN – Oliver Queen, seen wearing a suit and not in his Green Arrow costume for the purposes of this season finale, is played by Stephen Amell. The star of Arrow, Oliver is generally considered the genesis point for The CW’s DC Universe (even though they obviously had Smallville and Birds of Prey long before Arrow came along). Amell’s Green Arrow appeared in the series premieres of both The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, so this episode more or less continues a tradition.
  3. NATE HEYWOOD – Nick Zano joins the cast as Nate Heywood — “Citizen Steel” — who in the comics inherits the powers and costume of his grandfather. He’s a troubled individual, suffering from both physical and emotional damage, in the comics — but as Zano told ComicBook.com at Comic Con International: San Diego, that’s not the direction they’re going with Heywood on TV.
  4. THE THREE MUSKETEERS – Cardinal Richelieu, depicted as one of the villains of Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers, being included in this episode more or less cements the idea that they look like that on purpose — and explains why certain characters who were strategically important in the fight — like Jax, for instance — had to stay out of sight.
  5. REX TYLER – Rex Tyler, the Golden Age Hourman and a veteran member of the Justice Society of America, is one of a number of DC heroes who would pass on his name and legacy numerous times over the decades to come in the comics. On TV, he made a single, brief appearance at the end of the season 1 finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and will show up again — with the rest of the Justice Society this time — in next week’s episode as well.
  6. DAMIEN DARHK – Damien Darhk was the season four big bad on Arrow. Like Ra’s al Ghul, he’s a very old man who has been kept relatively young by the Lazarus Pit because of his position of power and authority first within the League of Assassins and later in H.I.V.E. Originally created as a villain in The Titans, Darhk’s control of H.I.V.E. made him an ideal choice when The CW decided to introduce a magical villain last year. He was nearly unbeatable until Oliver figured out how to manipulate Darhk’s energy to his own ends, and now he’s dead — except that as somebody who’s been not only alive, but rich and powerful for decades, he’s surprisingly easy for a time-traveling troublemaker to find and recruit.
  7. ALBERT EINSTEIN – First of all, he’s appeared in DC Comics before. In an oversized issue Superman vs. Wonder Woman, Nazis went after Einstein in 1942. Ultimately, Wonder Woman rescues him but ends up finding out about the Manhattan Project. After becoming a person of interest for a while and throwing down with Superman a bit, she ends up teaming up with the Last Son of Krypton to track down and defeat Baron Blitzkrieg. Secondly, the thing with his wife is actually based in historical controversy.  Mileva Marić was a Serbian physicist and has long been rumored to have coauthored Einstein’s 1905 paper on relativity.
  8. INSULTING RAY – Calling him a “boy scout” feels like a nod to Brandon Routh’s time as Superman, but the whole “what are you without that suit?” reeks of Marvel’s The Avengers. That’s a comic book movie reference twofer!
  9. REVERSE-FLASH – Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, may have something up his sleeve.

  2. Diggle is Making a new friend!  (Date: 04 Jan 2017)
Wendy Mericle told TVLine: “Diggle emerges from jail with a much bigger drive, and not the same fatalism that he had earlier in the season. He’s going to come up against Colonel Walker and grow closer to Adrian Chase.” Guess having a good lawyer on his side in the form of the DA, as well as Vigilante, will help!

  3. Talia to play a crucial role in the Prometheus arc!  (Date: 04 Jan 2017)

    * Stargate SG-1 actress Lexa Doig was recently cast to play the DC TV version of Talia on Arrow

GENERAL DC TV NEWS

  1. FIRST CLIP FROM KEVIN SMITH’S SUPERGIRL EP SHOWS CASUAL, QUIPPY TONE (Date: 27 Dec 2016)
After directing an episode of season two of “The Flash,” Kevin Smith is returning to the CW to direct an episode of “Supergirl”. There’s one big development that’s revealed in the clip: Mon-El finally got a job! He’s working as a bartender, which makes a lot of sense given his party-boy Daxamite background. True to form though, he’s not great at fetching club soda for Kara, preferring to serve her something brown and boozy.

  2. Tense Flash clip finds Barry and Wally at odds (Date: 27 Dec 2016)
Wally, reveling in his newly rediscovered Kid Flash powers, appears to have gotten a little over eager during what was supposed to be a training session with Barry. Despite the fact that he saves the Flash’s life, Barry is none too happy with his protégé, and brings him to task for doing instead of observing and learning like he was supposed to.The clip also teases the introduction of another villain from the comics, with Wally bragging about how he put Plunder into Iron Heights. Plunder was previously shown in a season three episode in a news report, wearing an eye patch.
    Link:http://www.cbr.com/tense-flash-clip-finds-barry-and-wally-at-odds/
  3. New Legends Of Tomorrow trailer Features Legion Of Doom (Date: xx month year)
    * The CW Television Network has just dropped a brand new trailer for the second-half of the second season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
    * It begins with Nate and Ray mentioning for the first time that Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) are member of the Legion of Doom — though White Canary doesn’t want to call them that.
    * We also learn, from a Sara-Jax exchange, that the Legion have Rip Hunter.
    * Lots of great action!

  4. Jeremy Jordan Talks Winn’s Evolution on Supergirl (Date: 02 Jan 2017)
Jeremy Jordan discusses with Comicbook.com how Winn is developing from last season now that he is with the DEO instead of CatCo. “I think that Winn has become a foil for the audience in terms of how he’s giving us the fanboy reaction play by play, and that’s a really fun, exciting aspect of Winn to play,” Jordan said. “That’s ‘old Winn.’ That who Winn has always been at his core. At the same time, Winn is growing up and learning to guard himself and learning to protect his friends and he kind of becomes a little bit of the sage advice-giver this season, whether he’s giving advice to Alex or cautioning James to take it easy. I think he’s learned a lot from Cat and he’s learned a lot from his experience in the past year or so and it’s forced him to grow up a lot.”
    Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/01/02/jeremy-jordan-on-supergirl/
  5. Geoff Johns Will Return To Writing Comics In 2017, Teases Another New DCTV Show (Date: 01 Jan 2017)
Geoff Johns’ top 5 DC events that he’s looking forward to in 2017 has revealed that DC’s Chief Creative Officer will be returning to comics and also that there’s a new DCTV show on the horizon. It seems pretty clear that Johns’ return to writing a DC comic will involve the Watchmen characters that were behind the Rebirth event. But will that be a new series exclusively focusing on those characters or are we looking at another crossover event? There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding Ozymandias and Doctor Manhattan’s role in Rebirth so the safe bet would be another event series continuing on from where Rebirth left off. As far as a new DCTV series is concerned, will it be airing on The CW, Fox, Syfy or some other network?  And with the large number of DC characters already appearing on the various shows, will it be another spinoff series?

  6. Cisco Ramon may be getting a love interest  (Date: 05 Jan 2017)
    * Gypsy is a character who teamed with Vibe, Vixen, and a handful of other heroes on the ’80s’ notorious “Justice League Detroit,” and she is expected to make her way to Central City soon…
    * Gypsy may be the one to help him really power through the challenges ahead while shedding some of the baggage of the last few months.
    * From a TVLine interview: “Cisco will find in the ‘badass’ Gypsy ‘a very strong adversary’ as well as ‘someone he can’t stop thinking about.’”
    Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/01/05/the-flash-will-gypsy-be-a-love-interest-for-cisco-/
  7. The back half of Supergirl S.02 will explore the Kara/Mon-El relationship  (Date: 05 Jan 2017)
    * A recent clip from Kevin Smith’s latest Supergirl episode showed another ‘meet-cute’ moment between the two model-faced aliens,
    * According to executive producer Ali Adler, we’ll see that romantic sub-plot continue over the latter half of season 2.
    * As Adler told TV Line when laying out the mid-season 2 arcs, “We’ll explore more of that relationship… Kara still has to figure out how she feels about him.”
    * The fact that we now know Mon-El is hiding a possibly nefarious secret will also have to be addressed, with Adler acknowledging, “A lot of secrets have been brewing this season,” and that as season 2 gets into its latter half, “We’ll get definitive answers.”

GENERAL DC TV NEWS

  1. Gal Gadot Comments On Wonder Woman’s U.N. Ambassador Controversy (Date: 19 December 2016)
“There are so many horrible things that are going on in the world, and this is what you’re protesting, seriously?” Gadot said about the backlash during a recent chat with TIME. She continued, “When people argue that Wonder Woman should ‘cover up,’ I don’t quite get it. They say, ‘If she’s smart and strong, she can’t also be sexy.’ That’s not fair. Why can’t she be all of the above?” Of course, Gadot is not the only baffled by the controversy. Protestors demanded Wonder Woman be removed from her honorary position because some felt it was inappropriate to have a busty white woman carry the torch. However, fans from around the world are now rallying behind Wonder Woman and emphasizing that her beauty in no way negates her inspirational history. Already, there are dozens of online petitions running which ask the U.N. to reinstate Wonder Woman as an ambassador. Over on Change.org, Chloe Behrens has created a petition which asks for Wonder Woman to be reinstated as an ambassador.

In about a year, Justice League will finally hit the big screen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get already have a taste of what the superhero squad can do. Sure, fans have already been treated to animated features starring the Justice League, but one Youtube had made an ultimate edit for fanboys and fangirls everywhere. UltraSargent has gone above and beyond with his newly released fan-video “CW’s JUSTICE LEAGUE,” and it will have you begging Warner Bros. to speed up their theatrical release of DC Comics’ heralded team. “So, here it is. After around 2 months, it’s finally done. This is my way of telling a unique story about the formation of the CW’s very own, Justice League of America. There was a lot of pressure on me (that I put on myself) that this video be good, so I really hope you guys enjoy this,” UltraSargent wrote.

  3. Justice League Dark International Trailer Released (Date: 20 Dec 2016)
Warner Bros. Animation has released the international trailer for the upcoming film, which moves the focus to the magical side of the DC Universe. When nightmares start taking over the populace, the League is tasked with finding someone who can help stop it, and his name is John Constantine.

  4. Suicide Squad Is The Most Popular Movie Of 2016 On IMDB (Date: 19 Dec 2016)
According to the website, Suicide Squad was the most popular movie of 2016 on IMDB. Here’s what the ranking had to say about the supervillain flick: “Anticipation was high for the first big-budget movie lead by supervillains. All the signs were good with a cast that included Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker and Margot Robbie as the baseball bat-wielding troublemaker Harley Quinn. Robbie stole the show and the film helped position her as IMDb’s top star of 2016. And while there were naysayers for the film, written and directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad took more than $745 million at the worldwide box office and made it the most popular movie on IMDb in 2016.”

  6. Supergirl Lives… Under A Red Sun – First Trailer For Supergirl’s January Return (Date: 21 Dec 2016)
The first trailer for Supergirl’s return this January shows us a lot of different things: Roulette returns, something happens to Winn Schott in the field, and Supergirl goes through a portal and ends up on a world with a red sun… not good for a Kryptonian.
Kevin Smith seems to kick ass.  Also great animation for Guradian’s sheild

GREEN ARROW COMICS & TOY NEWS

  1. Green Arrow Issue #13 – “EMERALD OUTLAW” part two
Writer: Benjamin Percy Pencils Otto Schmidt Letters: Nate Piekos of Blambot
Snow falls on Seattle as its mayoral race heats up with a rash of murders that implicate a deadly archer. As a city wonders what’s become of its Emerald Archer, Green Arrow and Black Canary race to rule out their prime suspect: Emiko Queen.

  2. Is Green Arrow Going Up Against the Dakota Access Pipeline In March? (Date: 19 Dec 2016)
As part of an effort to reach the widest possible audience, The New 52 had downplayed Oliver Queen’s left-wing politics. When Rebirth came around, though, one of the things that Percy seemed to be saying was that being a political animal was so engrained in Oliver’s persona that removing it left the character missing something that hadn’t been replaced. On sale March 15, Green Arrow #19 sees the Emerald Archer and his former sidekick Arsenal going up against…well, it’s not exactly explained, but without larger context? It sounds a lot like the Dakota Access Pipeline project. Here’s the solicitation text: “Orphaned as an infant and raised on a Navajo reservation, the superhero Arsenal returns to his adopted home to defend it from a violent militia hired by…Queen Industries?! Oliver Queen’s company has been up to no good since his supposed death, but Green Arrow is on the scene to make things right. Unfortunately for Ollie, he’s the last person his former sidekick wants to see.”

  3. DC’s REBIRTH Gets Its Own Trailer (Date: 20 DC 2016)
Seven months into DC Comics’ “Rebirth” era, the publisher has released a trailer highlighting it as the start of “the next big epic.” The trailer, done to coincide with the release of the first collections from “Rebirth,” can be seen here:

  4. Wonder Woman writer and artist dropped by DC over ‘challenging relationship’ (Date: 20 Dec 2016)
The critically acclaimed, Eisner-nominated comic series The Legend of Wonder Woman has been cancelled by DC Comics, because of what a spokesperson for DC called “a challenging relationship” with the husband and wife team behind the series. Since the cancellation was announced, fans have been wondering whether it was due to poor sales, or studio sexism towards Wonder Woman. However, the DC spokesperson told the Guardian that though “we loved the book and we were very excited to work on the collected volume”, the studio was concerned about Dillon’s public comments about other teams at DC on social media. In a series of now-deleted tweets, preserved online on Bleeding Cool, Dillon criticised the writing in another DC series, Wonder Woman: Earth One, and complained when DC approved future volumes of Earth One while he was waiting to hear about the future of his own series. “It is an unfortunate situation. We tried hard to make it work,” the DC spokesperson said.

ARROW NEWS:

  1. Arrow Tragedy Will Push Felicity to a Darker, ‘Morally Questionable’ Place (Date: 11 Dec 2016)
Wendy Mericle discussed Felicity with TVline.com. “One thing Felicity is not going to do, I can tell you for sure, is blame Oliver. She recognizes the manipulations that have led to this situation,” said Wendy Mericle, “Felicity has set her sights on Prometheus. This season we have said we’re going to take her to a darker place, and you’re seeing the genesis of the reason why, right here.”

  3. Stephen Amell Uses Batman Begins To Explain An Arrow Season 5 Plot Point (Date: 14 Dec 2016)
The CW’s Arrow showrunner Wendy Mericle recently talked about the direction of the Susan Williams plot thread on Arrow, saying that the reporter hasn’t let up on trying to prove that Oliver Queen was living and operating out of Russia during the five years he was supposedly stranded on a deserted island. In trying to explain the story, series star Stephen Amell turned to a familiar superhero staple for audiences: Batman Begins. “Susan appears to be up to no good, but in reality, she’s just following a very interesting story,” Amell told reporters during a set visit back in November. “I mean, the mayor of the town where she’s a reporter was clearly not on an island for five consecutive years — which, by the way, I think it’s about time we did that. I always think back to the first Nolan Batman, where Ra’s al Ghul says to him ‘The world is too small a place for someone like Bruce Wayne to disappear.’ Even if [Oliver] wasn’t as famous — and he wasn’t — he did perish in a very famous incident in our story. I always thought when he was in Hong Kong that someone would stop him and be like, ‘Hey, you look like Oliver Queen!’ but it didn’t happen.”

  4. Hollywood’s 50 Favorite Female Characters (Date: 09 Dec 2016)
For THR’s latest intra-industry poll, the editors asked Hollywood professionals — actors, writers, directors and others — to take an online survey of their favorite fictional female characters. More than 1,800 participated — twice as many women as men — but the results proved there isn’t such a great divide between the sexes after all, at least when it comes to what types of females we enjoy watching on screens. #15 is Felicity Smoak – Felicity was supposed to be a minor character, but her chemistry with Oliver Queen made her a fan favorite. By season two of The CW’s adaptation of the DC comic, she was a regular player. “Felicity has developed over the course of the series,” says Rickards. “She’s from a regular world. She’s relatable, honest and grounded. But she’s not boring.”

GENERAL DC TV NEWS

  1. THE FLASH Set To Introduce Justice League Detroit Member Gypsy For The Second Half Of Season 3 (Date: 11 Dec 2016)
The Flash will introduce another DC hero to lend Barry Allen and friends a hand for the remaining season 3 episodes. During a new installment of The CW’s Fan Feast, actor Carlos Valdes (Vibe) confirmed that Gypsy/Cindy Reynolds will be introduced at some point when the show returns in January. “There’s going to be a new visitor to our world named Gypsy,” said Valdes. “DC Comics fans will be familiar with Gypsy. She is going to be coming in our world and Vibe will definitely get to learn some new skills as part of getting to know her. So I’m excited to see how that plays out.” Based on Valdes’ comments, it’s safe to assume that they’ll be going with the New 52 incarnation of the character, who was a runaway from another dimension.

  3. Protests end Wonder Woman’s fight for equality at United Nations (Date: 12 Dec 2016)
A United Nations spokesman said the character’s role at the 193-member state organization would end on Friday despite plans for Wonder Woman to be used in an empowerment campaign for women and girls into 2017. The move came after the Oct. 21 appointment of the superhero to fight for gender equality sparked heavy criticism, with nearly 45,000 people signing an online petition asking U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to reconsider selection of the character. “Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent ‘warrior’ woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character’s current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions,” the petition read. Dozens of U.N. employees protested at the U.N. headquarters in New York City on the day of the appointment when Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment, said the Wonder Woman campaign would feature various initiatives “over the course of the next year.” The U.N. did not provide further details as to why the Wonder Woman campaign was ending this week but spokesman Jeffrey Brez said campaigns using fictional characters often lasted no longer than a few months.

CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES

Season Episode  “What We Leave Behind” (Date: 08 Dec 2016)
Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/12/08/arrow-easter-eggs-and-things-you-might-have-missed-in-the-season/

  1. JUDAS CONTRACT – A young, female team member who is recruited into Team Arrow and then seduced to the dark side and ends up becoming a sleeper agent for the villain is pretty much exactly the plot to the classic New Teen Titans storyline The Judas Contract.
  2. OLIVER’S CHRISTMAS MOVIES – According to Stephen Amell’s recent Facebook Live video, he shares Oliver’s favorite Christmas movie (Die Hard) and the “Its true!” he delivered after saying so in the episode was actually a Stephen Amell-ism, not Oliver Queen’s.
His second choice, It’s a Wonderful Life, is an interesting one considering…”I was very lucky to be able to rewatch that movie last week.”…which of course is not a thing that happened. He was  subjected to a kind of custom-made It’s a Wonderful Life, where the Dominators showed him a whole different timeline and how his life and the lives of those around him might be different if he had made different decisions.
  3. BIG BELLY BURGER – The mention is because the to-go bag for the DC Universe’s favorite burger joint was the focus of a shot that hung on for a few seconds AND transitioned from the present day to the flashbacks. That’s a lot of camera time for a fast food container.
  4. CLAYBOURNE – While Justin Claybourne’s name did in fact appear on The List, we never saw him dealt with in season 1 and all of the scenes here that were calling back to the first year of the series were entirely new material. This, of course, opens up the question of whether we might see some more such stories in flashbacks for future episodes…!
  5. ALMOST EVERY WEDNESDAY – “People who are supposed to be dead turn out to be alive almost every Wednesday.” Weirdly enough never during the summer or between mid-December and late January, though.
  6. THE HOOD – Oliver’s season 1 costume, the kill list, the sets, the mission, his arguments with Diggle…this is what it was like when he was The Hood and not Green Arrow.
  7. THE RED PEN – The red pen is a nice callback to some of Felicity Smoak’s earliest appearances, and that makes it worth breaking out to talk separately about “IT Girl Felicity,” back when Oliver was still making up outlandish stories to get her help instead of just coming clean with her.
  8. AK DESMOND PHARMACEUTICAL – It seems worth noting, since Dr. Alchemy is such a big part of The Flash this season, that A.K. Desmond Pharmaceutical could plausibly be considered a wink-and-a-nod reference to Albert Desmond, a chemist who would go on to become Dr. Alchemy in the comics. Unlikely, but possible!
  9. MAKE THE CITY GREAT AGAIN – Obviously in his final moments, when Claybourne is trying to appeal to Oliver’s ideas about “saving the city,” he says that businesses like his can “make the city great again,” which in the context of the last years’ worth of public life feels suspiciously like a reference to Donald Trump’s “make America great again” campaign slogan.

ARROW NEWS:

  1. ARROW FANS HAVE ALREADY SEEN SEASON 5’S FINAL SCENE — OR HAVE THEY? (Date: 05 Dec 2016)
Now that “Arrow” has reached season five and has no plans of slowing down, the plan has changed slightly. As Guggenheim said, “Spoiler alert. That’s (Ollie’s rescue from Lian Yu) going to end up being the Season 5 finale.” Season five’s flashback story arc will still end by replaying the first moments of the series, but there’s now much more show to come after that moment in season six and beyond. But just because fans saw how season five will end five years ago doesn’t mean there aren’t surprises still ahead at the end of this season. Guggenheim added that the creators have “some incredibly clear plans for what we want to do in the Season 5 finale,” but that they always leave wiggle room for surprises and cliffhangers.

  2. Arrow’s David Ramsey: “I Like The Idea Of Felicity Not Defining Herself Through Her Relationship With A Man” (Date: 04 Dec 2016)
During the Arrow panel at the CCXP convention in Brazil, David Ramsey was asked to chime in on Olicity. “For me, I like the idea of Felicity not defining herself through her relationship with a man,” Ramsey told the crowd. “I like the idea that she can be her own person, and she can be strong and feminine, own the company, without pining over men — Oliver or any other man.”

  3. Stephen Amell Addresses The Big Twist In Arrow’s Midseason Finale (Date: 07 Dec 2016)
In a Facebook video, Stephen Amell discussed the return of Laurel. Amell said that tonight’s script was the first in a long time that legitimately shocked him when he turned the page to that reveal. He also said that he was skeptical at first of the idea of bringing another character back from the dead, but that they’re now several episodes down the line in production and that he thinks the story that comes out of it is a good one.

GENERAL DC TV NEWS

  1. Four-Night DC Crossover Gives The CW Its Most-Watched Week In Six Years (Date: 06 Dec 2016)
The four-night DC superhero crossover event is certainly paying off big for the CW, pulling in 2.3 million viewers for its most-watched week in six years. For the week of November 28, the CW was up 20% in total viewers versus the same week last year, up 15% in adults 18-49 (0.7 vs. 0.6) and up 16% in adults 18-34 (0.6 vs. 0.5), according to Nielsen stats. Supergirl had its most-watched (3.5M) episode of the season, and matched its season premiere ratings in both adults 18-34 (0.9/4) and adults 18-49 (1.1/4). The Flash saw its most-watched episode (4.15M) in almost two years (12/9/14) and its highest rated episode of the season. Arrow delivered the series’ most watched (3.55M) and highest-rated episode since last season’s crossover episode (12/2/15). And DC’s Legends of Tomorrow had its most-watched episode ever (3.39M) and its highest-rated episode ever in adults 18-34 (1.0/5).

  2. MISTER MXYZPTLK TO MATERIALIZE ON SUPERGIRL (Date: 02 Dec 2016)
com reports DC Comics supervillain Mister Mxyzptlk will bring his impish antics to the CW drama for two episodes in 2017.Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Ira Yarborough for 1944’s “Superman” #30, Mister Mxyzptlk is a mischievous imp from the fifth dimension who delights in tormenting the Man of Steel. More fun-loving prankster than straightforward villain, Mxyzptlk’s fifth-dimensional technology appears as magic to three-dimensional beings; the limits of his powers are vast and unknown. Famously, he can only be stopped and returned to his home dimension by tricking him into saying his name backward (“Kltpzyxm”).
    Link:http://www.cbr.com/mister-mxyzptlk-to-materialize-on-supergirl/
  3. How “Supergirl” And A Super-Duper Gay Comic Book Clerk Helped Save A Girl’s Life (Date: 04 Dec 2016)
Mary, a “super-duper gay” employee at a comic book shop in Indiana, shared an encounter she had with a young woman. The girl said she was suicidal because she’s gay, and she didn’t realize gay women could be happy until she saw the Alex Danvers coming out arc on Supergirl. To help the girl out through the hiatus, the employees suggested  Batwoman: Elegy, Midnighter, and Gotham Central. The girl didn’t have money for all of the titles, so the employee bought them for her.
    Link:http://www.newnownext.com/supergirl-lesbian-sanvers/12/2016/
  4. Mark Hamill and John Wesley Shipp On the Biggest Surprises Reprising Their Roles on The Flash (Date: 06 Dec 2016)
Interesting fact: Shipp starred in The Flash in 1990 and 1991, with Hamill as a recurring villain. While Hamill was filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a new TV version of The Flash was coming together. Three years later, against all odds, he and the producers have found a way for Hamill to make an appearance as James Jesse in each midseason finale so far.
    Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/12/07/mark-hamill-and-john-wesley-shipp-on-the-biggest-surprises-repri/
  5. Supergirl Showrunners wanted to play with Shippers (Date: 3 Dec 2016)
Producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed after a screening (h/t EW) that multiple moments with Kara were ultimately cut from the three episodes, including Sara asking out the Girl of Steel (and perhaps foreshadowing a future with Alex):
There was a little exchange between Sara [Caity Lotz] and Kara [Melissa Benoist] that I really liked — I don’t think we even filmed it — where Sara says, ‘Hey, do you want to get a drink when this is all over?’ And Kara says, ‘I think you wanna meet my sister.’ Just the idea of starting the Sara/Alex [Chyler Leigh] shippers going …
    Link:http://comicsalliance.com/supergirl-legends-crossover-deleted-scenes/
  6. Fallout from the Superhero Crossover (Date: 3 Dec 2016)
WILL SUPERGIRL VISIT EARTH-1 AGAIN? | Now that Kara has a way to communicate and travel across Earths, crossovers are certainly “easier” to execute, Kreisberg says. “The next time we do it, it means it doesn’t necessarily have to be because Oliver and Barry need Kara; it could be because Kara needs them.” However, the EP notes that nothing is in the works, seeing as how “we just barely survived this one. So we’re not too concerned with what we’re going to try to do next year. But it just gives us another way to come at a story.”
DOES THE WORLD KNOW ETs EXIST? | A line was cut for time, in which the G-man known as “Glasses” says, “‘Cover up what? A dozen weather satellites falling out of orbit?’” Guggenheim explains: “People see the ships, but no one ever really saw the Dominators. The way we’re sort of playing it going forward is that Glasses is good at his job, and when he says he’s going to cover it up, he’s going to cover it up.” Adds Kreisberg: “There’s a mention of it in The Flash, that the threat of aliens brought out all the crazies. But we’re sort of Doctor Who-ing it.”

GREEN ARROW COMICS & TOY NEWS

  1. X-MEN: GOLD AND BLUE ROSTERS AND CREATIVE TEAMS REVEALED (Date: 28 Nov 2016)
X-Men: Gold will be written by Marc Guggenheim with art by Ardian Syaf. The phase-shifting Kitty Pryde at long-last will become an X-Men team leader, whose squad includes Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Old Man Logan, and Rachel Grey. “Kitty is the right person to bring the X-Men into the future, to herald in the next era of the X-Men,” Guggenheim told us in a phone interview. “We are post the war with the Inhumans. The X-Men are sort of at a crossroads. They’re at a point where they are trying to decide, is there a future for the X-Men? And Kitty is very much of the mindset that there is a future for the X-Men and it’s a bright future.”
Guggenheim is best known as co-showrunner and writer on The CW’s Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow and previously worked on the adjectiveless X-Men book in 2014 featuring an all-female cast of characters.

    • THOUGHTS
      • Best part of the crossover?
      • Earth’s Mightiest Heros – My earth could use a Supergirl. Mine could use an oliver queen
      • Stein’s kid.  New recurring character.
      • Diggle with the best piece of advice “It’s like I keep telling this guy, you have to forgive yourself”
      • Cisco’s device to communicate and cross over
      • You look like the star spangled idiot
      • She’s Hot? Yup.
      • Barry and Ollie drinking.  Great friendship.  Damn.
      • Not a lot of Dominators. Not a lot of Supergirl. Why was she even there?
  • INVASION! – DC comic book series – skip so we can push ahead. Dedicated show in the future
    • Three-part comic book series published from late 1988 to early 1989
    • Writers: Keith Giffen and Bill Mantlo; pencillers: Todd McFarlane and Bart Sears; inkers: P. Craig Russell, Al Gordon, and Dick Giordano; colorist: Carl Gafford
    • Plot: the alien race the Dominators form an alliance and attack Earth with the goal of ridding Earth of all of its metahumans and superpowered people
    • Invasion stopped, but a young Dominator develops a Gene Bomb, which causes all meta-humans to lose control of their powers
    • A group led by Martian Manhunter finds a cure
      Comparison to TV adaptation:
      • There is no way the TV version can be as grand because the TV universe doesn’t have as many metahumans and supers as the comic
      • Started with aliens in comic, so know their motivation, but it took a long time to learn their motivation in the adaptation

CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES

Season 5 Episode 8 “Invasion!” (Date: 01 Dec 2016)
Article: http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/12/01/arrow-easter-eggs-and-things-you-might-have-missed-in-invasion-/

  1. Running – Stephen Amell said, “The hundredth episode of Arrow begins in a very appropriate way: it begins with Oliver running. We’ve had him running into the premiere almost every year, we didn’t have him running in this year, but we have him running in the hundredth episode.”
  2. Dinah Laurel Lance – Full-naming your fiancee while doing cutesy talk isn’t entirely unheard-of, but here it’s a nice little reminder that, yes, Laurel is actually Dinah Lance from the comics, the longtime Justice League and Birds of Prey member known as the Black Canary. Laurel’s necklace is the Black Canary logo from the comics
  3. Oliver and Company – The reference, in case you missed it the first hundred times we used it or when Cisco explained it this week, is to a Disney animated film from the ’80s. It was a musical comedy about a group of streetwise dogs who take in a small, orange cat, in which the soundtrack was primarily driven by Billy Joel, whose biggest fan is probably Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim. Per Guggenheim, he made the Oliver and Company joke in the script, but it was actor Carlos Valdes who added the Billy Joel nod.
  4. The Hozen – In the pilot, Oliver gave Thea a Hōzen (宝箭) — an arrowhead-shaped stone he found around the neck of a dead Japanese soldier on Lian Yu. In the pilot, he told her — as she tells him this week — that in Japanese Buddhism, the hōzen symbolizes reconnecting.
  5. Palmer’s Buyout Offer – The Palmer Technologies buyout of Queen Consolidated came in season 3 of the TV show, but apparently here, Palmer was hovering around Queen as soon as he heard Robert Queen was thinking of stepping down.
  6. Van Horn Industries – Van Horn Industries is the name of a company owned by the family of Andrew Van Horn, a superhero known as Gunfire. Gunfire was created during the Bloodlines attack, a ’90s attempt to create a bunch of new superheroes by giving them a common starting point: an alien invasion where some of the victims of parasitic, cannibalistic aliens survived and gained powers.
  7. Hood Sketch – Along with Diggle under the hood, we get a look at the original Hood sketch and newspaper clippings that made up part of the Starling City Police Department’s Rip Hunter-style chalkboard looking for the Arrow in season 1.
  8. MY NAME IS OLIVER QUEEN – When Oliver starts to introduce himself, he goes with “My name is Oliver Queen,” just like he does in the voice over at the start of nearly every episode. Felicity hilariously cuts him off with “everyone knows who you are.” Which serves the story — he’s a famous, wealthy socialite — and the meta-text of the episode.
  9. CHICAGO MED – That roundabout thing about how Tommy is a doctor in Chicago now, and he just couldn’t break away from his long shifts to come visit for the wedding? That’s a whole lot of meta, talking about actor Colin Donnell, who played Tommy in season 1 and has periodically come back in flashbacks and other such stories. Donnell couldn’t come for the hundredth episode because he’s now a regular on Chicago Med, which is in production and couldn’t spare him.
  10. THE PATH NOT TAKEN – This story seem familiar? Like last year’s Supergirl episode “For the Girl Who Has Everything,” or the “Flashpoint” episode of The Flash? What about “Perchance to Dream” from Batman: The Animated Series?
  11. THE FERN – It came back! Was seen when Ollie enters Diggle’s Arrowcave

  2. Arrow’s Stephen Amell Wants To Play A Villain (Date: 22 Nov 2016)
com had the chance to hear Amell speak in Atlanta at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest, and it was there that the actor shared his nefarious dreams. “Having lived in the hero’s shoes for a moment, I would say I’d like to play a…famous and memorable villain,” he said, “in the vein of Hans Gruber or Hannibal Lector.”

  3. STEPHEN AMELL HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR (Date: 26 Nov 2016)
“They’ve reached out to me to do ‘American Ninja Warrior,’” he said at a Heroes & Villains Fan Fest convention panel, according to ComicBook.com. “We’ll see. One of the things that I’m learning now as someone that has a big responsibility at the head of a television show and has some business interests and is a husband and a father– priorities not being in that order — I don’t want to stretch myself too thin, and I wouldn’t want to do something if I couldn’t put my heart and soul into it.”

  4. ARROW & PROMETHEUS HAVE AN EXPLOSIVE CONFRONTATION IN NEW PHOTOS (Date: 23 Nov 2016)
Team “Arrow” is in deep trouble. In “What We Leave Behind,” the episode following the “Invasion!” crossover, Oliver discovers that Prometheus knows his and his fellow vigilantes’ secret identities. What follows is an explosive confrontation between Green Arrow and his mysterious foe. The photos below show Green Arrow and Prometheus coming to blows, but Oliver is not alone. He has a little help from Spartan and Wild Dog, and it looks like they’re going to fight fire with fire.

  5. Arrow Boss Marc Guggenheim Reflects on 100 Episodes, Favorite Moments — Plus, What’s Still on His ‘To-Do’ List? (Date: 29 Nov 2016)
In the photo gallery above right, Marc Guggenheim shares favorite memories and musings from the past 100 episodes — Which casting was a “happy accident”? What stunt still wows him? Did “Olicity” happen too soon? — as well as offers some behind-the-scenes secrets.

  6. Arrow boss previews Matrix-esque 100th episode (Date: 29 Nov 2016)
EW interviewed Marc Guggenheim about Arrow’s 100th episode and the series so far. Guggenheim admits to having some regrets: “The truth is, I don’t think I’ve ever been involved with an hour of television on any show where there hasn’t been something I wanted to take back,” he says. “Doing 23 episodes a year, you’re just constantly running, so nothing ever turns out exactly the way you want it to. In other words, my list of regrets is actually incredibly long; it’s 100 episodes long. I’d say probably my biggest regret is I wish we had allowed the Oliver-Felicity storyline in season 4 to unfold at a more natural pace. We had set these tentpoles at the beginning of the season, and we were a bit too rigorous on how we hit them. That was a case where the planning overtook the storytelling. We didn’t do things as naturally and as elegantly as we should have.”

  7. ‘Arrow’ EP Marc Guggenheim On Tonight’s 100th Episode, CW’s Mega-Crossover & What’s Next (Date: 30 Nov 2016)
Reflecting on Arrow’s future and past, as well as the labyrinth and rewards of the multi-show saga, Guggenheim spoke with Deadline about how “Invasion” came together as a crossover and a stand-alone episode of the Vancouver-filmed show. The EP, who developed the show with Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, also hinted at where things could go next for the archer and his team as Arrow heads towards next week’s Season 5 winter finale, who we may see more of from the show’s past, and what the next crossover could be like.

  8. Arrow Hits Season High Ratings During 100th Episode (Date: 01 Dec 2016)
In a report by Deadline, the site has confirmed Arrow hit a season-high rating last night of 1.3/5. The episode drew in 86% more viewers ages 18-49 than it did on November 16. The episode was a tenth down from last year’s superhero crossover special, but its viewership was still impressive. More than 3.52 million people watched the episode.

GENERAL DC TV NEWS

  1. SUPERGIRL’S BRENDA STRONG ON UNLEASHING LILLIAN LUTHOR’S WRATH (Date: 22 Nov 2016)
com interviewed Brenda Strong who currently plays Lillian Luthor, Lex’s mother, on Supergirl. In the interview, when asked about Lillian’s means justifying the end, she said, “That is such a great moral question. Everybody could ask themselves that and come up with a whole slew of different answers. It just goes back to the question of, when is it right to do the wrong thing? That opens up a whole can of worms about good and evil, black and white. Where’s the gray? Ultimately, she isn’t crazy, but she’s definitely committed to the end. It does justify the means for her. Obviously, she’s been willing to sacrifice any kind of personal relationships with this single-minded focus. There are costs for this character to achieve her commitment.”

  2. SUPERGIRL: MEHCAD BROOKS COMPARES JAMES OLSEN’S GUARDIAN TO BATMAN (Date: 28 Nov 2016)
During a recent set visit, Brooks told CBR and other reporters that James’ CatCo position has made him more like the Dark Knight. “I kind of liken it to Bruce Wayne, running an enterprise during the day and then at night putting on the sleek black suit and your costume,” he explained. “James in the DC Universe has seen examples of it before, right? He’s never had to do it himself. Yeah, I think he was ready for both of those responsibilities anyway, so now he’s handling it well, but at first not so much.”
He also discusses the suit, why James is reluctant to tell Kara, and why he thinks Superman would approve.

  3. DC TV Crossover Featurette Includes Revealing New Behind The Scenes Footage And Interviews (Date: 28 Nov 2016)
It doesn’t reveal any major details we probably haven’t already heard, but the video still provides a fascinating insight into how this crossover became a reality, and it sounds like a logistical nightmare!

  4. THE DOMINATORS SET FOR POST-CROSSOVER APPEARANCE ON SUPERGIRL (Date: 28 Nov 2016)
The crossover between four of The CW’s DC Comics-based shows is now unfolding, but no matter the outcome, it’s been confirmed that the alien race at the center of the story will return — later this season on “Supergirl,” though it’s not yet known when or under what context. “This is not the last you’ve seen of The Dominators,” Andrew Kreisberg, an executive producer on “Supergirl,” “The Flash,” “Arrow” and “DC”s Legends of Tomorrow,” told a group of press including CBR during a Q&A Monday at The CW’s Burbank headquarters. “The Dominators will return on ‘Supergirl’ later this season.”

  5. Supergirl Ratings Soar As Crossover Begins (Date: 29 Nov 2016)
The CW’s four-part “Heroes vs. Aliens” DC Comics television crossover event got off to a solid rating start with this week’s episode of Supergirl. The episode, titled “Medusa,” scored a solid 1.1 rating in the core 18-49 demographic, and was watched by 3.51 million viewers in total. That an uptick from last week’s episode of Supergirl that puts the ratings for “Medusa” on par with the second season premiere of Supergirl.

  6. THE FLASH: MARK HAMILL, JOHN WESLEY SHIPP RETURN IN NEW PHOTOS (Date: 29 Nov 2016)
In “The Present,” next week’s episode of “The Flash,” Barry Allen will pay a little visit to Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) — and that means crossing over into Earth-3. New photos from the episode reveal a first look at Jay’s world as well as Earth-3’s version of James Jesse (Mark Hamill), better known as the Trickster on Barry’s world.

  7. THE FLASH HITS SEASON-HIGH RATINGS THANKS TO ARROWVERSE CROSSOVER (Date: 30 Nov 2016)
When the second installment of “Invasion!” arrived on “The Flash”, 4.09m viewers tuned in to see it, making it the show’s most-watched episode since Season 1’s “The Man in the Yellow Suit,” which aired on December 9, 2014. “Invasion!” achieved a 1.2/5 rating in the adults 18-34 demographic and a 1.5/5 in adults 18-49, something the show hasn’t done since last season.

  8. Matt Ryan Has A Message For Constantine Fans (Date: 24 NOv 2016)
Over the weekend, Ryan appeared at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest, alongside several actors from Arrow and The Flash. ComicBook.com had the chance to catch up with the actor regarding a potential future for his role as Constantine.”Never say never, right?” Ryan said. It was the best he could offer, not knowing whether or not fans should actually expect to see Constantine pop up on television again. He does, however, has a message for those fans.”I’d just like to say ‘Thank you fans for all the support you’ve given me from playing this character. It’s such an iconic role and to have you guys support me is just a fantastic thing so thank you very, very much.”

CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES

Season 5 Episode 6  “So It Begins” (Date: 10 Nov 2016)
Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/11/10/arrow-easter-eggs-and-other-things-you-might-have-missed-in-so-i

  1. Vigilante – But we’ve done that at least once before — and we think twice, so at this point we think it’s pretty well-covered ground that Adrian Chase was in the comics a costumed antihero known as Vigilante before he eventually took his own life out of the remorse he felt for abandoning the rule of law he had sworn to uphold his entire adult life.
  2. The Torah – “Is that from the Torah?” Oliver asks Rory before the Moby-Dick metaphor starts. That’s a not-so-subtle nod to Ragman’s Jewish heritage, which has been mentioned before. It’s worth a note that Rory and Felicity’s Jewish heritage makes the current incarnation of Team Arrow probably the most diverse groups of superheroes ever assembled on TV, with Oliver being the only non-ethnic male on the team. It’s happened without much in the way of the fanfare and attention these things usually get, so it seems worth at least a mention.
  3. Channel 52 – Here, it’s Channel 52’s news story when Oliver is checking on Dunn.
  4. McGuire’s ? – It’s not clear whether McGuire’s (which could also be Maguire’s or McGwire’s) bar is actually meant to be a reference, but if it is, it’s likely to Bridget McGuire, who was an art director on Arrow’s first two seasons.
  5. ..IS THAT A ‘ROCKY IV’ REFERENCE? – Because it’s Dolph Lundgren playing a big Russian, we’re going to be looking for references to Rocky IV pretty much every week until we’re sure we’ve seen one. That said, wrapping his hands in gauze like you do before you put your boxing gloves on (yes, we know his hands were injured. Still!), and then having him unleash a hail of haymakers on Oliver carries a little bit of an Ivan Drago context to it, doesn’t it?
  6. John Jr. – This is the first time we’ve seen John Diggle, Jr. actually appear onscreen! He’s a cute kid. He also, if you remember, used to be Sara Diggle (named for the then-dead-now-better Sara Lance) before Barry Allen traveled back in time and changed history in the “Flashpoint” event.
  7. HUB CITY – “The Marshals are halfway to Hub City by now,” Lyla Michaels tells Diggle. Hub City, a fictional city in the DC Universe, is best known as the home to The Question, a self-taught urban shaman. While The Question didn’t appear when Oliver visited the city last year, mystic Esrin Fortuna seemed like she had a similar role (and since there was a female Question for a while, some fans on Twitter briefly wondered whether that could be what we were seeing unfold).
  8. Moby Dick is a novel written by Herman Melville in 1851. The narrator is Ishmael, and he recounts his time on the whaling ship Pequod under the command of Captain Ahab. Ahab recklessly pursues the white whale, Moby Dick, noted for destroying whaling ships. Ahab’s wooden leg is a result of an encounter with Moby Dick.
  9. SP’s add: Judge Balderama – Oscar Balderama. Show Writer (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2421455/?ref_=nv_sr_1)

  2. Stephen Amell attacked by Arrow fan (Date: 14 Nov 2016)
Stephen Amell put up on his Facebook page: Dude came up to me yesterday… Head Butts me hard. Outta nowhere… Then says — “I want to fight the Green Arrow.” Paused, looked at him… shook his hand and said no thank you. Because I’m a father and a husband. Pretty manly if you ask me.

  3. People’s Choice Awards (Date: 15 Nov 2016)

  4. NEW ARROWVERSE CROSSOVER PROMO OFFERS FIRST LOOK AT THE DOMINATORS (Date: 15 Nov 2016)
In a new promo for the upcoming crossover between “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” and “Supergirl,” the Dominators rear their ugly heads. The video reveals a few glimpses of the “Arrow”-verse’s latest threat: yellow, mind-controlling aliens with needle-like teeth and large red spots on their foreheads. Eagle eyes will spot a glimpse of Deathstroke.

  5. All in the Family (Date: 18 Nov 2016)
Highlights from the article in Entertainment Weekly: The crossover story involves the Dominators, mind-controlling space invaders alarmed by Earth’s surging population of metahumans. 15 characters from the 4 shows will assemble in an aeronautics facility that’s part of STAR labs. This is when Barry Allen introduces Supergirl to the group. At first Diggle is not sure why Supergirl is special, but gets impressed when she hovers. Berlanti is not a fan of the shows being called the “Berlantiverse.” According to him, “There are just so many people that are also part of this. Plus, you never want anything named after you that people could be upset or angry about.” The creators like that the shows are steeped in genuine relationship drama and that they are about something. “These shows have to work on multiples levels,” says Berlanti, “You want them to be enjoyable. But if they’re not about something, why are you showing up to work every day and asking everybody to pour their heart and soul into a story if it’s only about the Flash fighting a villain of the week?” As for bumps in the road the shows have had? Berlanti says, “We certainly made errors along the way. But that’s been part of the fun, too.” Tidbits about each show after the crossover:
Arrow – Prometheus should be unmasked soon. “Always in our midseason finales, we like to revisit the big bad,” hints Berlanti. The Flash – The annual Christmas episode is set to be tearful and will also flesh out villains Savitar and Dr. Alchemy. Legends: Captain Cold and Malcolm Merlyn join the Legion of Doom. Supergirl: A cliffhanger teases the introduction of a famous Superman-Supergirl baddie that has been referenced before.

  7. The First Big Story Details For the CW/DC Crossover Event Are Here (Date: 16 Nov 2016)
Supergirl: After some Thanksgiving drama, the epic superhero crossover kicks off when Barry Allen  and Cisco Ramon seek Kara’s help with an alien invasion on their Earth. The Flash: When aliens called the Dominators attack Central City, Barry speeds over to Star City to ask the Green Arrow for help in stopping them. Realizing the battle against the Dominators is bigger than they thought, they track down the Legends of Tomorrow, and Barry and Cisco create a breach to bring back a secret weapon – Supergirl. Once all of the super friends are assembled, they come up with a plan to attack but a shocking secret related to Flashpoint is revealed and suddenly no one is sure who they can trust. Arrow: The 100th episode – Oliver  wakes up to a life where he never got on The Queen’s Gambit. Robert and Moira Queen are alive and well. Laurel is his loving fiancée and their wedding is imminent. Everything seems perfect, but Oliver starts to notice small imperfections that make him question this new reality. Meanwhile, Felicity and the recruits take on a new threat with help from The Flash and Supergirl. Legends: After learning the Dominators’ plan for the world, the Legends must work together with The Flash, Supergirl and Green Arrow to kill them once and for all. Meanwhile, Stein figures out, with the help of others, how the team can terminate the Dominators, but is distracted by the aberration he realizes he created in 1987.

  8. ‘Arrow’ Season 5: Dolph Lundgren On Konstantin Kovar Guest Arc (Date: 16 Nov 2016)
Lundgren told AccessHollywood.com more about his new role, what convinced him to join the show and about meeting “Arrow’s” Stephen Amell while the series star was in what sounds like his flashback sequences wig. When asked if he was having fun doing the show, Lundgren replied, “Yes, it has been a blast. It’s fun to play this character. I think he was well-written and I have a lot of fun with it, and the fact that I don’t really know where it’s going is interesting because I have to keep the character alive sort of within myself over quite a long period of [time]. … I know it’s going to be six months for sure because I’m doing some stuff in February. So yeah, that’s interesting. And yeah, it’s sort of endearing to have this Kovar fellow be there almost every day in my life too, to be ready for the next shot. So I’m enjoying it. I’m sure the future will be even better.”

  2. The Flash in Vancouver’s Victory Square with Iris West & big bad Savitar? (Date: 10 Nov 2016)
Is that the god of motion Savitar in the motion capture suit? The Flash season 3’s Big Bad. Seen was the latest of a sequence with the Flash, Iris West and a mo-cap actor believed to be season Big Bad Savitar in the southwest corner of the park. The mo-cap actor is big next to the Flash.

  3. Savitar: The Flash’s newest speedster, explained (Date: 14 Nov 2016)
The series is bringing in the villainous Savitar for the current third season. Savitar was brought into the “Flash” comics way back in 1995’s “The Flash” (Vol. 2) #108 by writer Mark Waid and artist Oscar Jimenez. Savitar has the ability to transfer speed from one being to another. Thus, he’s able to power an entire army of ninjas with energy from the Speed Force, using them to steal speed from existing speedsters. We soon learn that Savitar is a self-proclaimed god who formed a Speed Force-obsessed cult for himself, developing a messiah complex along the way. Savitar got his powers amidst the Cold War as a fighter pilot that accidentally broke the sound barrier.

  4. Justice League Dark Trailer Released (Date: 15 Nov 2016)
The trailer is just under two minutes, but it packs in plenty of action. The footage shows the Justice League scrambling to end a global phenomena being caused by dark magic. When it comes to casting, Justice League Dark nabbed several big names from the DC Animated Universe. Jason O’Mara will voice Batman while Matt Ryan will play Constantine. Zatanna will be voiced by Camilla Luddington, Deadman by Nicholas Turturro, and Etrigan by Ray Chase. Rosario Dawson will play Wonder Woman, and Superman will be voiced by Jerry O’Connell. Justice League Dark is expected to hit DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD in early 2017.

  5. IS DC’S KOBRA DEBUTING IN THE CW’S SUPERHERO CROSSOVER? (Date: 15 Nov 2016)
In addition to the arrival of the pointy-eared antagonists, the teaser also included the first look at Citizen Steel’s helmet, the return of Deathstroke — and the first glimpse of a new, intimidating logo we haven’t seen before. Now, the question arises: who’s icon is that? In a recent report, it was revealed that the CW version of the Dominators utilize a form of mind control, a departure from their comic book counterparts. The logo seen in the trailer has us thinking, perhaps there’s another, longer-lasting reason the alien invaders will be employing this technique in their battle for Earth. In the comics, the Kobra Cult is a terrorist organization dedicated to controlling the world. In short, exactly the sort of group the Arrowverse loves to introduce as foils to its heroes, and one whose debut during a crossover of this magnitude could lay the seeds for multiple storylines across future seasons for every DC/CW show.

Season 5 Episode 6  “So It Begins” (Date: 10 Nov 2016)
Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/11/10/arrow-easter-eggs-and-other-things-you-might-have-missed-in-so-i

  1. So It Begins: As Felicity notes in the episode, the title (and also that little message in fire left for Oliver a la the Daredevil movie) is a line from Babylon 5. Specifically, it was spoken by Kosh in the episode “Chrysalis,” and became an oft-repeated/referenced quote from the series. Michelle’s addition: Kosh is the Vorlon Empire’s Ambassador to Babylon 5. The line is said to Sinclair and refers to Delenn starting her transformation.
  2. Aparo & Puckett: Tobias Church’s stolen cell phone turned up in a warehouse on Aparo and Puckett — two streets named after veteran DC Comics creators Jim Aparo and Kelley Puckett. Puckett is a writer best known for his work on the Batman family of titles; Among his most notable works are the co-creations of the Cassandra Cain Batgirl and Connor Hawke, the son of Oliver Queen. Aparo is one of the most recognizable Batman artists of his era; his last ongoing series assignment before he passed away was Green Arrow #81-100 in the ’90s, during which time he and Puckett introduced Connor Hawke.
  3. Ishmael Gregor – David Meunier, known to TV fans for his role on FX’s Justified, joined the cast of Arrow tonight as Ishmael Gregor. Gregor in the comics is a character who’s been known to make a physical transformation into a demon, complete with magical powers, but considering remarks by the showrunners about a more grounded Season Five, it seems likely that his primary role will be as a human running the Russian mob.
  4. Worth mentioning – Konstantin Kovar appeared onscreen for the first time in this week’s episode, played by Hollywood action legend Dolph Lundgren. Channel 52 makes yet another appearance. Callbacks to early seasons include Oliver’s tennis ball-training session, the appearance of The List, and all those names on it.

  2. Arrow’s Stephen Amell: ‘It’s time for Oliver to have another relationship’ (Date: 03 Nov 2016)
In an interview with TVLine, he said,“I don’t know if he’s ready to move on, but it’s time for Oliver to have another relationship. Earlier this year I was speaking with [showrunner] Wendy Mericle, and I was like, ‘Look, there’s two things that we’re no longer allowed to write about Oliver: We’re no longer allowed to call him a billionaire, because … he lost his family fortune. And we’re currently not allowed to say ‘playboy’ — he’s dated one woman since Season 2, and he had a fling with Isabel Rochev. That’s it.’ If you’d like him to be a playboy, then by all means, start writing him like one”

  4. Arrow: there’s more to Anatoly Knyazev than meets the eye, says Nykl (Date: 09 Nov 2016)
At the celebration for “Arrow’s” 100th episode, David Nykl — who plays Knyazev — spoke to CBR about his character’s evolution, whether or not Anatoly has ulterior motives and more. “Calling someone a bad character is always a misnomer, because no one’s really bad; they’re either misunderstood or they’re just trying to do something and they’re not going about it the right way. I really think he’s just a simple sort of guy that has got caught up in deeper situations. There’s more to him than meets the eye.”

  5. Arrow: Amell calls Dolph Lundgren’s character a ‘worthy adversary’ (Date: 09 Nov 2016)
On the way Dolph works on set, Stephen Amell said, “He’s very thoughtful and contemplates his lines and he has been great so far, but it’s a real change of pace. I do think it would have been a missed opportunity in the last year of these flashbacks to not have a really worthy adversary. We found that in Dolph, which is why he’ll be around for a while. It’s been a blast to work with him. It’s been awesome.”

  6. Arrow’s Josh Segarra reveals what excites him about playing Vigilante (Date: 09 Nov 2016)
Next week’s episode of Arrow, titled “Vigilante,” will center on the character of Star City District Attorney Adrian Chase (played by actor Josh Segarra), and introduce his costumed alter ego, Vigilante. He told ComicBook.com during the Arrow 100th episode party that they were working hard not to disappoint anybody who read the comics and had expectations for the character. “The biggest question that I have for myself as an actor is ‘why does this person become the person that they are?'” Segarra said. “So what’s going to be hard is that in the middle of the season I get to introduce Vigilante. So now I’m getting to tell that backstory and we get to tell the biggest pieces and get to show him becoming who he is before episode 7.”

  7. Should Arrow end after season 5? Stephen Amell, EP Marc Guggenheim discuss (Date: 10 Nov 2016)
The article examines why season 5 could be a natural ending, but Marc Guggenheim says, “No, I think we tend to look at season 5 as the end of a particular chapter.” Arrow doesn’t seem to be in any danger of cancellation at present; while ratings are down from last season, it remains one of The CW’s four most-watched programs. The show’s longevity seems to surprise even the producers. The flashback storyline was always “a five-year deal,” says Guggenheim, and they intend to stick with that plan. “The show just turned out to be more successful than we anticipated.”  Also Stephen Amell discusses why season 4 disappointed him at times and how he likes the renewed focus of season 5.

  1. Legends of Tomorrow’s Caity Lotz: Even if she wants to, Sara can’t bring back Laurel (Date: 03 Nov 2016)
Sara Lance can’t kill Damien Darhk because of the consequences. In an interview with ComicBook.com she said, “The thing is, I can’t kill him. If I kill him in 1942 or 1952, all of those years that he was supposed to do everything would be messed up; it’s a big change to history. So I wouldn’t be able to even kill him. I think she’s struggling, now that she’s captain, with this higher sense of purpose. It’s not just all about her; she has to consider other people. You see what happens with Barry Allen when he changed the timeline. She’s coming around and being like ‘I have to accept this,’ but I still think there’s something in her that is always going to want to change it and I don’t know, if she had the opportunity, if she would pass it up. I think it’s still a big area of conflict for her. And of course she misses her sister.”

Next week on The CW’s Arrow, Oliver Queen finally comes face-to-face with Russian baddie Konstantin Kovar, who will be played by guest-star Dolph Lundgren. Here we have some new promo pics from the episode, and from the looks of things Ollie is going to find himself at Kovar’s mercy.

  2. Arrow: Diggle will confront Flash about the consequences of Flashpoint (Date: 28 Oct 2016)
As to whether or not Digg will confront Barry over the fact, Ramsey added, “Yes. The eighth episode [of ‘Arrow’] is going to have a lot of big things coming out of it, and that’s going to be one of them. Yes.” Ramsey also weighed in how Digg will react to the idea of an alien invasion, which will take place over the course of The CW’s four-show crossover this fall. “How is he going to react to seeing a woman fly across the horizon in a skirt? That’s an even better question!” he shared. “All of this flips Digg out, but I think he’s slowly getting a grip that this is the world that he now lives in and that’s part of his journey as well this season.”

  3. Arrow: Amell calls Oliver’s vigilantism ‘A last resort’ (Date: 28 Oct 2016)
Asked what he thought of Oliver’s enduring legacy as Green Arrow, Amell told CBR, “He’s very tough on [the new recruits], but then — in private moments, speaking with people he holds in close confidence — he sort of extols their virtues. So I think that he’s proud, but again, being a vigilante (and I think that he would agree with this) is the last resort, not the first resort. In a perfect world, Star City wouldn’t need a Green Arrow. So I think that the proliferation of them, while heartening in some sense and encouraging, is also a reminder that he hasn’t gotten the job done.” As to whether or not this job could ever truly be done, he added, “Of course! When the show is done, he’ll have gotten the job done.”

  4. Mericle calls Arrow’s 100th episode a ‘Love letter to the show’ (Date: 28 Oct 2016)
Wendy Mericle spoke to CBR about finding a balance between “Arrow’s” legacy and the crossover event, the future of the show, Green Lantern Easter eggs, female super-villains and more. About the 100th episode, she said, “It’s the 100th and we wanted it to be very nostalgic and very much about the DNA of “Arrow,” of the show when it started. We feel really lucky. We found a way to balance the fact that we do now live in a world where there are metas and there are aliens. Greg Berlanti came up with this brilliant way of accomplishing that and making it very much a love letter to the fans and to the show.”

  5. Arrow: Lance & Thea will develop a father/daughter dynamic  (Date: 29 Oct 2016)
At the celebration of “Arrow’s” 100th episode, Paul Blackthorne — who plays Quentin — told CBR that Thea’s offer of help will lead the two to develop a father/daughter relationship as the season moves forward. He said, “We both felt the characters wouldn’t realize that was happening for quite a long time. It’s not like, ‘Oh, she feels like my daughter!’ It’s quite unspoken, but of course it does certainly feel like that. It’s like, ‘I recognize this feeling, but it’s with somebody else.’ It’s been interesting playing on that dynamic with her.”

  6. Is Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim teasing The Question appearance? (Date: 01 Nov 2016)
Instead of Question coming to Star City, it looks like Team Arrow might be heading to Hub City instead.“Headed out of town…” he wrote. The caption was attached to an image advertising Hub City’s premium development potential. At the bottom right-hand corner of the advert, fans can see that the advert is associated with Arrow’s eleventh episode this season. Currently, fans have not been told what title the episode will carry, but fans are now wondering if it will have anything to do with the Question.

  7. ‘The Walking Dead’ actress Juliana Harkavy joining ‘Arrow’ (Date: 01 Nov 2016)
Juliana Harkavy (“The Walking Dead,” “Constantine”) is joining CW’s “Arrow.” Harkavy will have a recurring role as Tina Boland, a detective formerly of Central City. Boland is brash yet tactful, tough, speaks her mind, and is not the easiest person to impress. She also has a problem with vigilantes.Harkavy’s character will join in the back half of the season.

  8. ‘Arrow’ casts Lexa Doig as Talia al Ghul (Date: 02 Nov 2016)
Lexa Doig (“V,” “Stargate SG-1,” “Continuum”) has been cast in a recurring role as Talia al Ghul, Variety has learned. Talia is the daughter of Ra’s — who was the main villain in “Arrow’s” third season, played by Matt Nable — and the half-sister of Nyssa al Ghul, who’s played by Katrina Law. Talia, like Nyssa, is an elite warrior, excelling in multiple different forms of combat. Unlike her sister though, she refuses to pick sides and instead creates her own. Doig’s first appearance as Talia will be in the tenth episode of Season 5.

  9. Superhero TV maven Greg Berlanti says Arrow has as much hope and optimism as other DC shows  (Date: 02 Nov 2016)
Arrow has never shied away from gritty violence, consequences, and other storytelling tools that often feel out of place in the technicolor world of many superhero adaptations. “In some ways, there can be some episodes of Arrow that can be just as optimistic in their own way, especially given the perils that they’re up against,” Berlanti told ComicBook.com during a recent event celebrating the hundredth episode of Arrow. “It’s definitely a darker-toned show in a lot of regards, but it’s always the relationships and those are just as emotional and deep and fun.”
