X-MEN GOLD & X-MEN BLUE – Characters, Creators & More Revealed!

Facebooktwitterredditmail

After the war with the INHUMANS, Marvel has promised a return to basics for the X-Men franchise. The team will be super heroes again, not just angsty rebels fighting for mutant causes.  The two new twice-monthly titles will be Guggenheim & Syaf’s X-MEN GOLD, with Kitty Pryde leading rebranded Rachel Grey, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Storm and Old Man Logan; while Bunn and Molina will handle X-MEN BLUE, with the rather interesting concept of Magneto playing Professor X to the time-lost, teenage versions of the original line-up, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Ice-Man, Beast, and Angel.

PRESS RELEASE:

X-MEN GOLD & X-MEN BLUE – Characters, Creators & More Revealed!

New Comics Launching as Part of ResurrXion

New York, NY—November 28th, 2016 — A bright new tomorrow is coming for the Children of the Atom as the X-Men race full speed into ResurrXion! From the ashes of Inhumans vs. X-Men comes your first details about the highly anticipated new titles – X-MEN GOLD and X-MEN BLUE! Launching in April, these multi-shipping, ongoing series bring fans a new beginning for these merry mutants – one that is sure to please fans old and new!

“Following an era where the X-Men were on the back foot, fighting for the survival of their species, we wanted to take a moment to exhale and indulge in the kinds of big, beautiful, colorful stories that portray the X-Men at their best,” says Editor Daniel Ketchum. “It’s a return to form, with spandex costumes rather than body armor, softball games on the school lawn, and the X-Men on a proactive mission to be the greatest heroes of all time—to human and mutant alike.”

It all kicks off in X-MEN GOLD #1, as creators Marc Guggenheim (X-Men, Young X-Men) and Ardian Syaf (Green Lantern) bring together the X-Men’s biggest guns for an all-new adventure! Kitty Pryde has returned to Earth to find the X-Men in shambles. They survived their war with the Inhumans, but at a great cost. They’ve earned their future, now what are they going to do with it? Kitty takes the reigns and assembles a team of the most iconic X-Men to her side – Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Old Man Logan and Rachel Grey. They are the X-Men, and they’re here to take mutantkind into the future and make the world a better place!

Then, fan-fave creators Cullen Bunn (Uncanny X-Men, Monsters Unleashed) and Jorge Molina (A-Force, Star Wars) bring the time-displaced original X-Men together once more in X-MEN BLUE #1! With Jean Grey at the helm, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman and Angel will set out to embody Xavier’s dream – to foster a world that no longer hates and fears them. But they’ll have help from none other than…Magneto?! Why would these X-Men ally themselves with the man they once swore to defeat? Can the former mutant terrorist truly be trusted? The X-Men are young, but they aren’t stupid. Keep your enemies close, after all…

This is just the beginning! The future of the X-Men is bright, and it’s all beginning this Spring as RessurXion brings you a brand-new line of X-Men titles. Be there when it all kicks off in April when both X-MEN GOLD #1 and X-MEN BLUE #1 come to comic shops and digital devices everywhere! For more information on ResurrXion, visit Marvel.com.

MU revealed as MONSTERS UNLEASHED

Facebooktwitterredditmail

Marvel has been teasing us with various teasers simply displaying the letters MU along with writer CULLEN BUNN’s name and assorted artists, including Adam Kubert, Greg Land, Lenil Yu, Salvador Larocca, and Steve McNiven. Today, they unveiled what MU stands for, and it’s MONSTERS UNLEASHED. This isn’t the first time Marvel has used that title. IN 1973, MOSNTERS UNLEASHED was a black and white magazine featuring stories starring such Marvel monsters as Werewolf By Night, Frankenstein, and everybody’s favorite macabre Man-Thing.

Cullen Bunn and Magneto choose sides in CIVIL WAR II: X-MEN #1

Facebooktwitterredditmail

The X-Men are choosing sides, and writer Cullen Bunn hopes readers do to, in CIVIL WAR: X-MEN #1. The Inhumans have a new seer, and Magneto fears this gives the Inhumans an edge over mutants. So, being magneto, he sets out to level the playing field. But not ALL the mutants agree with him.

It’s Mutant vs Mutant vs Inhuman in this new tie-in series from Cullen Bunn and Andrea Broccardo.

Here’s the official release from Marvel.

The X-Men Enter the Fray in CIVIL WAR II: X-MEN #1!

New York, NY—March 7th, 2016 — As the heroes of the Marvel Universe stand against one another, the Mutants will face their own war. This June, the X-Men prepare for war in CIVIL WAR II: X-MEN #1 – a new Civil War II series from writer Cullen Bunn  (Uncanny X-Men) and artist Andrea Broccardo (Kanan: The Last Padawan)!

Terrigen Mists encircle the globe, igniting the Inhuman race while simultaneously crippling mutantkind. As conflict between the two nations simmers below the surface, a new Inhuman with the ability to profile the future has emerged. As heroes of the Marvel Universe battle over whether to use this Inhuman’s ability or not – one mutant will take matters into his own hands. Fearing this untapped power may tip the scales in the Inhumans’ favor – Magneto is willing to wage war with the Inhumans and even his own kind to prevent that from coming to pass!

“I certainly hope this story divides the fans in terms of who is ‘right’,” says writer Cullen Bunn in an upcoming interview with Marvel.com. “One of the things I’m excited about with Civil War II is that there are so many questions, debates, and positions that are going to rise from it. In Civil War II: X-Men we’ll focus on the mutants and the specific positions they are taking.”

No longer sitting on the sidelines, Magneto will use his terrifying and awesome power to take mutantkind’s fate into his own hands! Though he may be surprised who stands with him…and who stands against him! The battle lines are drawn this June in CIVIL WAR II: X-MEN #1!

For more information, visit Marvel.com later today for a full interview with the creators!

CULLEN BUNN AND VANESA R. DEL REY SET TO BLAME IT ALL ON ‘THE EMPTY MAN’

May 14,  2014 – Los Angeles, CA – When you think of a good horror story, you might imagine some kind of monster, like the werewolves of CURSE or the nightmare fuel of CLIVE BARKER’S HELLRAISER. However, some of the scariest stories are the ones that hit home—stories that are just realistic enough to make you wonder if it really could happen. This June, BOOM! Studios plays on those fears with THE EMPTY MAN, a dystopic version of the world we know, where a terrifying disease has taken on almost deific connotations and has inspired a wave of murder cults. People are killing each other and themselves, and the same words keep popping up: “The Empty Man made me do it.” Writer Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Magneto) and artist Vanesa R. Del Rey (HIT) are two of the most exciting talents in the industry, and perfectly in sync on this haunting new crime procedural.

“My favorite horror stories are of the grounded variety, balancing terror with real-world human concerns,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “The disease and investigation that are at the heart of THE EMPTY MAN completely hit that mark. Combining a bit of J-horror and a bit of the police procedural, Cullen Bunn and Vanesa R. Del Rey—both visionaries in their own right—have crafted a gripping story that explores some of our darkest fears.”

It’s been one year since the first reported case of the Empty Man disease, and no drug has been able to slow its progress. The cause is unknown, and the symptoms include fits of rage, hideous hallucinations, suicidal dementia, followed by death, or a near lifeless, “empty” state of catatonia. As murder cults rise nationwide, the FBI and CDC enter a  joint investigation of the Empty Man, hoping to piece together clues to stop the cult and uncover a cure.

THE EMPTY MAN #1 arrives in comic shops on June 11th with a cover price of $3.99 under Diamond order code APR140958. The main cover is illustrated by series artist Vanesa R. Del Rey, with an incentive cover available in a limited quantity from Goñi Montes (CLIVE BARKER’S NEXT TESTAMENT). Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.

Deadpool Vs. Carnage #1 Review

Facebooktwitterredditmail

Release Date: April 2nd, 2014

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Written By: Cullen Bunn

Art By: Salvador Espin

Price: 3.99

Review:

I have to admit I was looking forward to this insanity more than any book this month. Carnage, the insane psychopathic serial killer in a murderous alien symbiote versus Deadpool, the mercenary who is so insane the world literally bends itself to his will. This book wasted absolutely no time uniting these two whack jobs in a bloody few pages.

Deadpool_vs._Carnage_Preview_3
There isn’t much story but there doesn’t need to be. Psychopath versus psychopath. They don’t sit around pondering their existence or waxing philosophically. Deadpool gets some not so subtle hints from the universe, aka his TV, telling him that he should track Carnage down since he is at least as insane as Cletus Kasady is. While Carnage massacres an entire diner full of good ol’ honest taxpaying citizens, Wade contemplates how his “amazeballs screwiness” would eventually come in handy some day. I guess he hasn’t read any of his own books because his insanity is what always saves his carcass from a fiery death. And somehow, after following a crappy butcher who quits his job and watching a kid play Street Fighter, Deadpool miraculously finds a lead on Carnage. Huh?! Whatever. The two meet in a small town full of suburban houses that were abandoned and Carnage gets an RPG to the face as he stands triumphantly in his tighty whities on his front porch. An obligatory fight ensues complete with runny symbiote sprayed all over the place and Deadpool’s missing hand being inside Cletus. Eww. There is also a surprise cameo at the end. I have no clue who that person is but Deadpool gets his face blown off by them.

DPvC1
The art is as insane as the two characters. Its nonstop adrenaline-fueled action and explosions. The fight between the two nutters is beyond hectic, with symbiote blades, pistols, grenades, and tentacles flying all over. The craziness in the eyes of Kasady is scary enough but then you get the facial expressions of Deadpool impossibly showing even thru his mask. Deadpool’s body language and the reactions of random people on the street to the Merc with the Mouth are priceless. Espin also throws in a plethora of fanboy references, Easter eggs, and Marvel goodies in the backgrounds and foregrounds of almost every panel leading up to the fight.

3540487-dpcarn1
Cullen Bunn is currently my favorite writer. Everything that guy touches turns to gold. While I wasn’t sure he could tackle the level of insanity that is Deadpool versus Carnage, he surprised the amazeballs right off me. The rest of this story should be beyond good with him at the helm. Also, there’s a Parental Advisory label on the front of the book so that’s guaranteed awesome!

I’ll just spoil the cameo surprise because I doubt more than two people know who she is and if they do, I’m sure she isn’t a world shattering reveal-type cameo. So, who is Shriek? Anybody?

Marvel’s New Symbiote Character Means Big Change for VENOM

Facebooktwitterredditmail
VENOM2011040_colVenom might be the first and most famous alien symbiote in the Marvel Universe, but as fans know it isn’t the only one.  Other infamous symbiotes in the Marvel include, Carnage, Scream, Lasher, Scorn, Riot, and Hybird. While these symbiotes are perhaps the most known, there have been much more and recently in the pages of the current Venom volume, Eddie Brock-who’s currently wearing Spidey’s old black alien suit-killed a whole bunch more.
But don’t despair my fellow comic book fans in arms, it’s been announced today that a new alien parasite will be joining the symbiote family. First revealed in the September 2013 solicitations on the cover to Venom #40, which will be illustrated by Jorge Coelho, and written by Cullen Bunn, the symbiotes’ name is Mania and Bunn says that the character will debut before issue forty hits the stands this September.

Who is this new character? Though it has not yet been revealed, many observers believe that it might be Andi-Flash’s student and neighbor. What we do know so far is that Mania is confirmed to be a female and appears to have a friendly sidekick-like relationship with Flash.

In an interview with Newsarama (which you can read more here), Bunn talked about the character’s identity:

“There has been a lot of speculation as to who the character is. There’s been a lot of speculation as to, “Will she be a temporary character?” But my intent is that she will be a permanent addition to the Marvel Universe. She will play a huge role in the next several issues of Venom; she has a big part to play with resolving some storylines for Flash. And yet she puts Flash Thompson in a new role, because he will be taking a lot of responsibility for her arrival into the Marvel Universe.”

Whoever she is, Mania will make a big impression on not only Venom but the Marvel Universe as well. Let’s hope she does the same for fans.  Considering that Bunn’s writing her, I think we have nothing to worry about. Are you excited about this new character? Who do you think she is? Leave a comment below!
