Marvel’s New Symbiote Character Means Big Change for VENOM

Facebooktwitterredditmail
VENOM2011040_colVenom might be the first and most famous alien symbiote in the Marvel Universe, but as fans know it isn’t the only one.  Other infamous symbiotes in the Marvel include, Carnage, Scream, Lasher, Scorn, Riot, and Hybird. While these symbiotes are perhaps the most known, there have been much more and recently in the pages of the current Venom volume, Eddie Brock-who’s currently wearing Spidey’s old black alien suit-killed a whole bunch more.
But don’t despair my fellow comic book fans in arms, it’s been announced today that a new alien parasite will be joining the symbiote family. First revealed in the September 2013 solicitations on the cover to Venom #40, which will be illustrated by Jorge Coelho, and written by Cullen Bunn, the symbiotes’ name is Mania and Bunn says that the character will debut before issue forty hits the stands this September.

Who is this new character? Though it has not yet been revealed, many observers believe that it might be Andi-Flash’s student and neighbor. What we do know so far is that Mania is confirmed to be a female and appears to have a friendly sidekick-like relationship with Flash.

In an interview with Newsarama (which you can read more here), Bunn talked about the character’s identity:

“There has been a lot of speculation as to who the character is. There’s been a lot of speculation as to, “Will she be a temporary character?” But my intent is that she will be a permanent addition to the Marvel Universe. She will play a huge role in the next several issues of Venom; she has a big part to play with resolving some storylines for Flash. And yet she puts Flash Thompson in a new role, because he will be taking a lot of responsibility for her arrival into the Marvel Universe.”

Whoever she is, Mania will make a big impression on not only Venom but the Marvel Universe as well. Let’s hope she does the same for fans.  Considering that Bunn’s writing her, I think we have nothing to worry about. Are you excited about this new character? Who do you think she is?
