First Wonder Woman Film Footage Revealed

Last night on the CW, a 30 minute special titled DC Films Presents: The Dawn of the Justice League aired. Hosted by Kevin Smith and Geoff Johns, the special gave fans a first look at what’s coming from DC’s cinematic universe aka the DCEU (DC Extended Universe).  One of the segments focused on the upcoming Wonder Woman film.  Though Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) will first appear on the big screen in forthcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this March, the Amazon heroine will also debut in a stand alone film next year in June.  Check out the segment below.

As you can see there are bits of footage showing Wonder Woman fighting in addition to confirming the World World I setting. I’m very excited about this film and can’t wait till it arrives! What do you think about the footage?

Musings of a Blerd: Awesome Star Wars Books: The Perfect Weapon

And welcome back to my column! With Star Wars fever at an all time high, I’m starting the new year off by taking a look at some awesome Star Wars books. These books are either from the official cannon, the expanded universe, and beyond. Today’s book is an short story ebook titled Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon.

Benzine Netal

Written by  Delilah S. Dawson, the 52 page story focuses on a character featured in the Force Awakens, Bazine Netal, who viewers briefly saw in Maz Kanata’s castle.

The short story gives readers backstory on what Bazine was up to before the events in the Force Awakens. Bazine is a mercenary, highly skilled at being a  master of disguise, and armed with a blade, a blaster, or her bare hands. The story is well paced and goes deeper into who Bazine is and what her motivations are.

The Perfect Weapon is easy to read, consists of 11 chapters, and can be read in one sitting. It’s only available in ebook ($1.99) and audiobook ($2.99) formats.  I highly recommend it.

Musings of a Blerd: Awesome Star Wars Books-Star Wars: The Force Awakens Incredible Cross-Sections

Happy New Year!

It’s been a long while since I’ve written (life got in the way) but this black nerd lady has returned with her musings. I’m going to try and attempt to post here on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is part of my writing new years resolution so bare with me as I try to do my best to not break it. No let’s get on with it shall we?

In nerd/geekdom, 2015 ended with the arrival of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and there’s been many articles, gifs, fan art, etc. to celebrate and discuss the film. I’ve only seen the film once so far (I know what’s wrong with me?) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. To celebrate, I would like to feature Star Wars books that I find intriguing-I mean just plain awesome. These books come from the now official cannon, the expanded universe, and beyond.

The first book I’m featuring is titled Star Wars: The Force Awakens Incredible Cross-Sections Written by Jason Fy, the book was released on the day that the film arrived in theaters. Inside readers will discover the juicy details of the vehicles and spaceships featured in the film. The book contains a total of 12 profiles each explaining the backstory of its subject.

Here are few pictures of what you’ll find in the book:

Pretty awesome right? The price is also awesome as the book costs $12.58 on Amazon.  I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely purchasing a copy. Well that’s it for now, I’ll catch ya’ll on the flip side!

Press Release: Bronarr Smashes His Way Through Space Aliens in ‘Strange’ Comics Magazine

AUSTIN, TX, Aug 5, 2015

16-page preview available:

In the tradition of publications like Heavy Metal and 2000AD comes Strange Kids Club Magazine—a self-published comics and humor magazine that provides new and upcoming creators a chance to have their work seen in print while also expanding on the offbeat, irreverently funny universe of Strange Kid, the fictitious blue-haired mascot of Strange Kids Club.

The latest issue, now on Kickstarter, includes four self-contained stories by writers and artists from around the globe and introduces readers to a brand new character, Bronarr: Space Barbarian! Behold as Bronarr blasts, bludgeons, wrestles and wiggles his way through the forces of evil amongst the stars—a hilarious parody of madcap muscleheads like Thundarr the Barbarian and He-Man—in a space misadventure starring Strange Kid and his pals Lando, a smart but relatively normal kid, and Orwell, a chupacabra who only speaks Spanish.

Also featured in this issue:
We Are Pirates (Part 1) by Michael Anderson
While running from a giant monster across the waterless wasteland that is now Earth, the fearless adventurer No-Beard runs into a band of Bounty Hunters looking for a big score. Grayskull Grindhouse: If I Had the Power by Mike LaRiccia
Witness as everyone’s favorite blonde barbarian embarks on a quest of vengeance in this hardcore parody that stars a bloodier, definitely more brutal, cast of men and monsters set out to master the universe. Prepare to go to uncomfortable places—this comic is not for children… or sentimental adults.

Musings of a Blerd: Thorsday # 6 The Lovers of Thor

Thor picture from

Happy Thorsday people of Midgard! Tis been a few weeks and the break was long needed. But rejoice! I Lady Adina hast returned with a new entry! Today I speak of the lovers of Thor. Yes our thunderer has had several romances but these five mighty women have been his main interests for many a time. And here they are:

Lady Sif:

Journey_into_Mystery_Vol_1_650_Acuna_Variant_TextlessNo lover has been more significant to Thor than our Lady Sif. This warrior is Thor’s principal love interest but Midgard and other women have gotten in the way of their love. In spite of these things, their love much like life has manages to find a way.

Jane Foster:

250px-Jane_Foster_(Earth-616)This lady had many adventures with the thunderer. A nurse by trade, she was involved in love triangle with Thor and Dr. Donald Blake, unaware that they were one and the same.  One day Thor takes Jane to Asgard where she was granted immortality and goddess status. Unfortunately the All-Father disapproved of the union and Jane was stripped of her powers and promptly returned to Midgard without memories of the realm eternal.  But fret not my dear readers, for love truly dost conquer all and soon she was reunited with her former lover.

The Enchantress:

Amora_(Earth-616)_Mighty_Thor_Vol_1_14One of the Mighty Thor’s most notable enemies and lovers. She has tried over and over again to seduce Thor while eliminating her competitors with her magic, but she has always failed. Once Thor willingly had a romance with her!  It was during a time when Odin abandoned Thor on Earth without his godly powers.  Eventually Thor and the Enchantress were married when he reclaimed the throne of Asgard. In a dark future that Amora helped her husband create, they ruled both Asgard and Midgard with an iron fist and even had a child named Magni. But all of this became undone when Thor visited the past in order to prevent this future. Talk about heartbreak!

Lorelei_(Asgardian)_(Earth-616)_008Just like her sister the Enchantress, Lorelei has also used magic to gain the affections of Thor. With Loki’s help, she gave Thor an elixir that would cause him to fall for her. However this did not work as her sibling’s jealousy caused Lorelei to fall in love with Loki instead and Heimdall exposed the plot.

Brunnhilde_(Earth-616)_from_Avengers_World_Vol_1_15_0001Against the wishes of the All-Father, this valkyrie attempted to save Thor’s life when he was incarnated as Sigmund. She failed but was able to save Sigmund’s pregnant wife Sieglinde.  As a result Odin punished Brunnhilde by taking her powers and casting her into a deep sleep. Eventually, Thor wakes her as the reincarnated Siegfried the son of Sigmund and Sieglinde. The two become lovers but under the influence of magic, Siegfried betrays Brunnhilde. Despite this betrayal, Brunnhilde still loves him and jumps into his blazing funeral pyre after he is killed.

Moved by this selfless act, Odin fully restores Brunnhilde and Thor but wipes their memories, because he’s the All-Father and does whatever he wants.

Daredevil Trailer Shows A Conflicted Hero

Yesterday saw the debut of the Daredevil teaser trailer and today the official trailer arrived you can watch it below.  In the trailer, the lawyer turned superhero played by Charlie Cox, confesses to a priest about his conflicted feelings about choosing to become a vigilante. “I’ve been preoccupied of late with questions of morality, of right and wrong, good and evil,” Murdock says. “I’m not seeking forgiveness for what I’ve done, Father. As we can see from the teaser and this trailer, Daredevil’s going to go down some dark paths to keep his city safe.

Watch the new Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer

Yesterday evening a new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron was released and though it showed many of the same scenes from the previous trailer, there were a few new tidbits that have gotten fans in a frenzy.

First there are flashback scenes which delve into Black Widow’s back story. It appears that she also has been experimented on and given enhancements.

Next there’s this shot which has really gotten folks talking.

age of ultron

Who is this mysterious woman? Is she Princess Shuri, sister to T’Challa aka Black Panther? Or is she one of his personal body guards, the Dora Milaje?

As for our heroes, we see Thor channeling lighting through his body and there’s a shot of Bruce struggling to contain the Hulk. Looks like this doesn’t work because towards the end of the trailer we see the Hulk red eyes-mind control or is he just spitting mad-is duking it out with Iron Man who’s dons his Hulkbuster armor.

The final shot of the trailer shows a wicked delightful Ultron and man it looks like it’s good to be bad. What do you think of this new trailer and what are your thoughts on the scenes with Black Widow and who do you think the mystery lady is? Write you thoughts in the comment section below.
