Episode 34: DAD SHORT- Seriously though, CHANGE DEFAULT FREAKING PASSWORDS!

Well its finally come to this… Ryan has to sit us all down and have “the talk”… about changing the default passwords on your devices. I know! I know! Its scary and it takes an ENTIRE MINUTE to do so but really guys… just… go do it if you haven’t! We explore some of the reasons why this week by discussing the dangers of leaving default passwords and settings on network connected devices and equipment, ESPECIALLY ip cameras which can be EASILY VIEWED BY ANYONE IN THE WORLD with tools from websites like insecam.org and shodan.io.

Disclaimer from Ryan: The websites I discuss this week have the potential to live in a biiiiiiiit of a legal limbo. They are crucially important tools used by security experts and white hat hackers for things like network security, penetration testing and exploit hunting. By their very nature though they can also be tools used by less than scrupulous individuals. While I encourage you to check them out because it can be a daunting reminder of why taking basic security precautions are so very very very very important, just be aware that using any of those tools without the proper training or for malicious purposes is obviously not something we would ever encourage or condone. This dad is just saying you need to be on your best behavior and respect the communities that maintain and utilize these tools for positive purposes!
