The best thing I saw last week was Arrow. More specifically the mid-season finale of season 2 of Arrow on the CW, it was episode #9: “Three Ghosts”. A whole lotta story comes into play and plays out during this episode. This whole season has felt like it was building to this point each and every episode and this was a great pay off.
All in all you get a new look, two origins and a villain reveal all in this one episode. If you haven’t been watching this show you really are missing out. It’s no Oscar winning hard drama but it is damn sure entertaining week after week. Being a fan of Smallville I had hoped that Arrow would take almost the same approach to the character of Green Arrow a.k.a. Oliver Queen and that is pretty much what they have done. If you were ever a fan of Smallville and didn’t give Arrow a chance for some reason I can’t currently fathom I cannot recommend this show highly enough. If you are just a fan of action get on this show and enjoy the ride. Between Netflix, Hulu, and The CW website you can get all caught up to the current running episodes.
One of the best bonuses are the Easter eggs in the show. Now I’m a comics fan but I am more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan and still I can usually pick out an Easter egg or two out of almost all episodes. For any true DC fans this show must be a huge joy each week.
Now I’m not going to go into specifics about the new episode but I will say the reveals were really fun and as much as I prefer Wally West in the books I have to say the actor playing Barry Allen is near perfection and brings joy to my heart in a way I haven’t felt since the John Wesley Shipp TV show The Flash got cancelled back in 1991. That show was also a blast. Plus with the creation of the Flash in the Arrow universe it appears DC is actually moving forward with using Arrow as a launching pad for introducing DC characters to the TV and hopefully movie universe. If they follow through with this and we see Grant Gustin not only go on to play the Flash on his own show but also show up in the movie universe, well, DC will be going a long way towards trying to catch up with Marvel.
So go, give Arrow a try. And if you want a nice reference pod go give a listen to GonnaGeek’s own Starling Tribune – an all Arrow podcast. And after you are all caught up on Arrow join me in getting excited for the new Flash TV show that is scheduled to debut in 2014.

I originally didnt want anything to do with this show but my wife convinced me it wasnt a typical CW romance/teen angst/bad comedy type show. I admit she was right. Its crazy how perfect this show is every week. And like you say, the easter eggs are nonstop.
I thought this was one of the best midseason endings this year. I can not wait till it returns. I am with you on the DC/Marvel, I hope DC will follow Marvel’s lead on this one CW did a great job casting the actors.
Honestly if you give most of the CW’s Fantasy/ Scifi shows a chance you really start to fall in love with them. I highly recommend you try The Originals, if you haven’t. Its good classic vampire fun, aimed at a little more adult audience that Vampire Diaries.
