CW SEED revives Matt Ryan’s CONSTANTINE

Facebooktwitterredditmail

Fans were devastated when NBC cancelled the Matt Ryan led CONSTANTINE series after just one season in 2014. Petitions were launched, #SaveConstantine was plastered across the web. The only results were an appearance on ARROW and Ryan voicing John Constantine in the animated JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK.

Well, Hellblazers, look no further! According to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, the CW SEED, home of the animated VIXEN and upcoming DC FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY, both of which are set in the shared DC TV Universe of Arrow et al., will be reviving CONSTANTINE for an ongoing animated series, complete with Matt Ryan to voice the cynical dark arts practitioner. While CW president Mark Pedowitz said “there are no plans,” to have Constantine cross over into the live shows (Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl) he did add that he’d love to have Ryan back.

Starling Tribune – Season 4 Edition – Episode 14: Code Of Silence (A CW Network Arrow Television Show Fan Podcast)

The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network

This week the Starling Tribune Reporters find themselves looking back a lot to season 1 Arrow, talk about the current episode Code Of Silence, and look into the future of the show. Just in case you forgot that Oliver keeps secrets but doesn’t like to, Arrow points it out again this week. Back on the island Conklin succumbs to Oliver Queen’s knife fighting skills (if only Conklin trained better Ryan Robbins would still be with the show). As the flashbacks progress will the show really be able to reconcile season one Ollie with Flashback Ollie? “Bam Bam” came through amazingly with the fight chorography this week and the reporters love it when he comes to direct and episode. The reporters are also surprised at how fast Malcolm Merlyn integrated with H.I.V.E.. The turn to help Feilicty walk about was really fast and really Terrific! The rpoertes wish for a Cisco’ed Spartan helmet soon. Neil’s ARGUS t-shirt seems safe from the dumpster bin…at least for now. Alex, the political intern, was sorely missed this week…unless he was cleaning up a Damian Darhk mess. The reporters are cringing for William Clayton and fear the worst for Samantha Clayton (#AnnaHopkinsForCaptainMarvel). This week was again a big shakeup for the reporter’s “Who’s In The Grave” and the trio rate and debate the villains of the week. The reporters wrap up the episode with a list of Easter Eggs, Arrow News, Feedback and comments from the chat. Thank you for downloading and listening!

Starling Tribune – Season 4 Edition – Episode 13: Sins Of The Father (A CW Network Arrow Television Show Fan Podcast)

The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network

In a decidedly bittersweet week for Arrow, The Starling Tribune reporters Chris, Neil and Stargate Pioneer drop down their thoughts on what occurred on the screen within the episode “Sins Of The Father” and off the create with the battling DC and Arrow creative teams. The reporters run down the Father-Son/Daughter sets on the show and attempt to pick the “best” father of the bunch. The trio also attempt to identify the episode theme which has Neil confused and both SP and Chris going in opposite directions. Malcolm shows his true colors – again – and Oliver has to decide on how to deal with it (#severancepackage). The fight scenes were some of the most intense and complex since The Siege at the end of season 2 in Starling City. Nyssa and Laurel’s relationship continues to transform and possible strengthen as comrades. The Reporters also analyze The Calculator’s dual reveals to Felicity and Overwatch and how Felicity responds in kind. This week was a big shakeup for the reporter’s “Who’s In The Grave” predictions and Chris throws out a second hashtag for the episode #WallerStillLives. The reporters wrap up the episode with a list of Easter Eggs, Arrow News, Feedback and comments from the chat. Thank you for downloading and listening!

Stephen Jondrew The Slade Wilson story lines are some of the best stories in all of the Arrowverse. I think that it’s important for people to remember the history of the universe (CW) and this feels like a kick in the face to that. I have always enjoyed Batman and Superman movies to some degree, I really enjoyed Man of Steel. However, actions like this (if true) kind of make me wish that the upcoming films flop and we see them disappear for a decade. Ya, i said it.

Starling Tribune – Season 4 Edition – Episode 12: Unchained (A CW Network Arrow Television Show Fan Podcast)

The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network

In another great week with an Arrow episode the Starling Tribune Reporters Chris, Neil and Stargate Pioneer break it all down for you. Nyssa and Katana were back! And Oliver Queen unites all women superheroes everywhere. The Reporters discuss just how much more Katana Arrow will get versus the DC movie universe. The reporters also discuss self-destiny as the theme for the episode. The ladies get a semi-shirtless Stephen Amell/Oliver Queen scene (but it’s also a torture scene). Did the stone come from the tattoo? Reporter Stargate Pioneer thought the Nanda Parbat fight scene was a bit weak but the rest of the fight choreography was pretty good, including Curtis getting his shots in with Roy. While the reporters discuss how good it was to have Roy back they discuss if the character was supposed to die in the episode. Were Roy’s contacts from Curtis’ designs at Palmer Tech computers? Felicity/Overwatch is really wheeling that chair! And the Lair has ramps! The reporters enjoyed the superhero pose in front of the explosion. The reporters also rate the villain of the week (The Caluculator). The Starling Tribune hashtag of the week is #someonegotshanked.  The reporters wrap up the episode with a list of Easter Eggs, Arrow News, Feedback and comments from the chat. Thank you for downloading and listening!

DC Comics and Warner Bros’ impact on Arrow continues to be felt and Starling Tribune Reporters Chris, Neil and Stargate Pioneer give their takes on the death of Amanda Waller and the potential exit of A.R.G.U.S. from the show. Felicity gets a double tap this week with her codename, Overwatch, and her past Goth Felicity double and SP drools. And keeping on Felicity, the reporters discuss just how handicap accessible the Lair 5.0 really is for “Hot Wheels” Overwatch. The reporters also discuss just hoe much of a theme AWOL was during the episode and SP argues his theory again about how Andy and the campaign intern are Damian Darhk plants. Starling Tribune – Season 4 Edition – Dark WatersThe Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network

A day after the Arrow season 4 mid-season finale the Starling Tribune reporters gather to marvel at the episode and the 1st half of the season. Reporter Neil unfortunately could not make it so fan of the podcast Jenny joins us to fill Neil’s seat. With less than a week before Star Wars Episode VII it is on everyone’s brain so the new podcast “squirrel” moment is “StarWars!” included with an Arrow reference to Star Wars as well. In the meat of the episode none of the reporters believe Felicity is dead but Jenny does have “Death fatigue” and SP comes out with his special theory. The possibility of Time Travel is discussed and everyone revised their grave-site death predictions. It’s a packed Arrow episode too with an Oliver-Felicity engagement and many secrets are revealed such as Damian’s family (we fear for Damian’s daughter), Quentin and Momma Smoak’s relationship. None of the reporters have a good handle on the Andy-John Diggle story line. The reporters love the dual father-daughter arcs in the episode. The reporters discuss how Oliver is handling both Team Arrow and Star City Mayoral Candidate. The reporters compare and contrast the villain evolution of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Grant Ward and Arrow’s Damian Darhk. “Genesis” continues to be a mystery. Lain-Yu Sharnadko 4 was quite the bust. The reporters comment on Malcom Merlyn as The Green Arrow. Chris answers the question of “Did Laurel redeem herself yet?” and all of the reporters give their take on a future Laurel-Oliver relationship. It’s not Arrow without some great fight scenes like we saw in the warehouse. SP continues his campaign for #AnnaHopkinsForCaptainMarvel and also his love for … shipwrecks? The reporters wrap up the episode with a list of Easter Eggs, Arrow News, a Stephen Amell versus Ben Affleck, Feedback and comments from the chat. Thank you for downloading and listening! All of us at Starling Tribune appreciate you! Happy Holidays and see you in 2016!

Starling Tribune – Season 4 Edition – Legends Of Yesterday

The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network

It’s a special edition of The Starling Tribune as the reporters discuss the Arrow and Flash crossover, Legends Of Today and Legends Of Yesterday. The GonnaGeek network steals a page from the CW network and does a crossover of our own as The Starling Tribune sends Reporter Neil this week to The Crimson Comet and Jonolobster from The Crimson Comet is welcomed to the reporter’s pool for the week. We love the Geek And Avengers references this week ala the superhero loft party and the farmhouse scenes. They three reporters talk about how great these episodes are for new viewers to start on, why the Arrow Lair’s computers have been acting all weird, and how some characters and secondary characters were not given their full due. What an awesome complete death scene! The reporters give their take on Big Boss fight scene #1 and Bg Boss fight scene #2. Damian Darhk and Vandal Savage see a speedster for the first time. The reporters have a theory on Vandal Savage and the League Of Assassins. The reporters are wowed by Felicity’s tech-fu being able to play a BetaMax on a dime using modern equipment. Even while he is on the road for the week, Neil reports remotely from Central City. Going deeper into the episode, the reporters discuss is Felicity is acting out of character and if Samatha Clayton is asking too much of Oliver. Those issues bother’s Stargate Pioneer so much he reached out to Anna Hopkins to get her take on what happened in the episode. (#AnnaHopkinsForCaptainMarvel) The reporters salivate over the meta-ness of Oliver Queen playing with William’s Green Arrow action figure in the future! Isn’t it silly that Hawkman and Hawkgirl’s outfits always fit? There’s always a cost to magic and time travel. The reporters give their answers to who will win in a cage match: Zoom, Savage or Darhk. The reporters tell which trailer they are more excited over: Legends Of Tomorrow Trailer or The Batman v Superman Trailer. And finally the reporters close off this special episode by going over some Easter Eggs, taking some feedback and reviewing the new in Arrow related news.

Bachman’s Best – The Flash

Facebooktwitterredditmail

The best thing I saw last week was The Flash. Actually its two weeks running and I’m betting dollars to donuts it’s going to be three but we’ll get to that. For those unaware The CW after the success of Arrow went forward with bringing back an old CBS classic, The Flash. As a fan of the old somewhat campy and crazy Flash TV show I was really excited to see the character coming back to TV and even more excited to see what the CW crew would do to it after they actually got me to enjoy Green Arrow stories which I hadn’t before. Now The Flash is my favorite comic book based TV show each and every week, it’s full of joy and fun, everyone should be watching this show.

In all honesty I’ve found Barry Allen to almost always be a boring character in the comics, depending on the writer. I’m a much bigger fan of Wally West. But the TV’s of course always go with Barry. Having a super hero whose alter ego works in a police station works well for stories. On the original show John Wesley Shipp did a good job with Barry but I have to say Grant Gustin’s work has gone a long way to making me really care about Barry. In fact the whole cast on The Flash is top notch from the main characters to the bit players. And the CW nods to the classic show with John Wesley Shipp playing Barry’s father and Amanda Pays doing an episode, and the amazing thing coming this week – MARK HAMILL is returning as THE TRICKSTER!!! No clue how they are going to make that work but I am excited. For the uninitiated The Trickster is the equivalent of the Flash’s Joker, which as Mark Hamill is even more fitting.

Trickster both classic and new school are scheduled to show up in this upcoming weeks episode which should make for a bang up time. One of the best things about The Flash are the Rogues Gallery. Commonly referred in the comics as simply the Rogues, the cast of villains Barry finds himself facing off against each week has been a joy to behold. In a simple monster of the week formula The Flash has presented a new super powered threat almost every episode in this their first season. And they just keep getting better and better. My current favorites are the brothers Prison Break, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold and the gravelly Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave. These two have a spectacular on screen chemistry that plays very well with them being the hot and cold duo out to stop the Flash. It’s worth watching the show just for them, not to mention the Reverse Flash, Plastique, the Weather Wizard, the Pied Piper and Gorilla Grodd. That’s right, this show has a psychic gorilla on it, how can you beat that?

In the last two episodes Barry has finally discovered his ability to run so fast that he can break the time stream. With the right circumstances he can indeed move quick enough to travel back in time. Luckily for him this first trip is only going back one day because the catastrophic changes are just now fully being felt by the character. Trying to stay spoiler free I’ll that over the course of the two days played out differently with Barry’s foreknowledge we see different deaths, different villains rise, and a whole string of changes to Barry’s personal life that will have far reaching consequences. It’s going to be fun to see where the writers take the overarching story now that they have this plot device, it’s even better to see that they are making the characters aware that changing the past does indeed have consequences.

It’s Tuesday nights on the CW folks, it’s The Flash, and if you only reward yourself with one hour of TV each week, The Flash should be that hour. And if you want to get all caught up you can always flip right over to the podcast section of this very sight and give a listen to the Crimson Comet and get your breakdown of all the episodes so far this season.
