I bid thee all a Happy Thorsday! Tis been a little bit of a harrowing week for myself and my kin. My mother was in the hospital but fret not, people of Midgard, she’s has returned to the realm eternal and is recuperating in the house of healing and doing well. We thank all of you kindly for your heartfelt thoughts and prayers.
When we gathered together last week to celebrate, I began my list of the god of thunder’s adversaries and this week continues and ends with part II.
1. Lorelei
The younger sister of the Enchantress, Lorelei has caused Thor trouble in the love department but most of her evil deeds are to prove that she is better than Amora which lead to causing Thor trouble as well. She was last seen as part of a robbery team in Loki: Agent of Asgard #2.
2. Midgard Serpent
Prophesying the seer Volla stated that Thor would battle the Midgard Serpent during Ragnarok-the Twilight of the Gods. Our mighty thunderer would kill the creature but would walk nine steps afterward before dying from the serpent’s deadly poison. Before the big battle took place, Thor and the serpent had a couple of run ins with each other.
3. Titania & The Absorbing Man
The former boxer and imprisoned criminal becomes the Absorbing Man through one of Loki’s schemes. After drinking a liquid that the god of mischief had laced with some Asgardian flavoring, Carl discovers he has the power to absorb the properties of anything he touches. He escapes his cell and battles Thor and holds his own against the god who is forced to withdraw due to Loki kidnapping Jane Foster. After learning the origin of his powers, Carl is humbled and becomes Loki’s servant being a thorn in Thor’s side for many years.
From bully to supervillian, to Skirn: Breaker of Men, and back, Titania has caused a lot of trouble for many in the superhero community. Married to Absorbing Man, she is his partner in crime and doesn’t come into contact with Thor as much as her husband does. But if he’s fighting the bad fight against the god, Titania has his back and can hold her own.
4. Malekith the Accursed & Kurse
The ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim has battled Thor many times. His latest appearance was in Thor: The Dark World.
One of Malekith’s followers a dark elf named Algrim fights Thor but is later betrayed and left to die in the comics. But he is saved by the cosmic entity called the Beyonder, who turns him into a powerful being called Kurse. Kurse has his revenge on Malekith and is granted citizenship among the Asgardians. He also becomes the guardian of the children of Asgard. The movie Kurse however takes a different path, a more evil one to be exact.
5. The Destroyer
This enchanted suit of armor forged by the all-father Odin has many times come close to killing our mighty Thor. Possessing unlimited superhuman strength, the armor can easily overpower Thor and even the Hulk. The Destroyer can be used by the lifeforce of a sentient being which inhabits it and doesn’t suffer from physical fatigue. This armor is one BAMF.
And that concludes this entry, come back again for another sermon concerning our beloved thunder god. For Asgard!
