Happy Thorsday folks! News has broken today concerning two of Marvel’s upcoming films. First up, actor Paul Bettany who is best known for voicing Tony Stark’s A.I. system Jarvis has been announced to play the Vision in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Bettany has previously starred in Gangster No. 1, A Knight’s Tale, A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Dogville, and The Da Vinci Code.
In this sequel to the billion dollar Avengers, Earth’s mightiest heroes face off against their robotic nemesis Ultron. In the comics, Vision was created by Ultron and was meant to be one of his henchmen but in the end, the android turns against Ultron and joins the Avengers.
Age of Ultron begins production next month with Joss Whedon returning to the director’s chair alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner.
Up next is news that actually broke last night concerning Marvel’s phase III film, Ant-Man. According to The Hollywood Reporter actress Evangeline Lilly of Lost and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug fame, is in talks for the lead female role opposite Paul Rudd. Whom she may be portraying hasn’t been revealed yet, but according to THR, “It’s unclear who Lilly would play but it is not intended to be a one-off appearance.”
Perhaps the role Lilly is up for is Janet van Dyne aka The Wasp. I know many fans want Rashida Jones and personally it would be nice to see a woman of color up for a main role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to sources from Variety, the role could possibly be Hank Pym’s daughter. Hank Pym will be played by Michael Douglas and Paual Rudd will play Scott Lang.
And that’s the latest updates from the Marvel films. What do you geeks think of theses announcements?
