Marvel Studios

1st movie poster for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 released

With a nod to posters for 80’s films like PRETTY IN PINK and THE BREAKFAST CLUB, Disney’s Marvel Studios has released the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOLUME 2 movie poster.  The initial poster for the first film was brandished with the quote “YOU’RE WELCOME” along the bottom. This one defiantly declares “OBVIOUSLY” beneath the film’s…well…obvious title of VOLUME 2.

The poster features the original team of Star Lord,Gamora, Rocket, Baby Groot, and Drax, but also features Nebula and Yondu [complete with full, albeit metal, fin-Mohawk].

Watch the new Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer

Yesterday evening a new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron was released and though it showed many of the same scenes from the previous trailer, there were a few new tidbits that have gotten fans in a frenzy.

First there are flashback scenes which delve into Black Widow’s back story. It appears that she also has been experimented on and given enhancements.

Next there’s this shot which has really gotten folks talking.

age of ultron

Who is this mysterious woman? Is she Princess Shuri, sister to T’Challa aka Black Panther? Or is she one of his personal body guards, the Dora Milaje?

As for our heroes, we see Thor channeling lighting through his body and there’s a shot of Bruce struggling to contain the Hulk. Looks like this doesn’t work because towards the end of the trailer we see the Hulk red eyes-mind control or is he just spitting mad-is duking it out with Iron Man who’s dons his Hulkbuster armor.

The final shot of the trailer shows a wicked delightful Ultron and man it looks like it’s good to be bad. What do you think of this new trailer and what are your thoughts on the scenes with Black Widow and who do you think the mystery lady is? Write you thoughts in the comment section below.

Paul Bettany To Play The Vision in Avengers And Ant-Man Casting News

Happy Thorsday folks! News has broken today concerning two of Marvel’s upcoming films. First up, actor Paul Bettany who is best known for voicing Tony Stark’s A.I. system Jarvis has been announced to play the Vision in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Bettany has previously starred in Gangster No. 1,  A Knight’s Tale,  A Beautiful Mind,  Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Dogville, and The Da Vinci Code.

In this sequel to the billion dollar Avengers, Earth’s mightiest heroes face off against their robotic nemesis Ultron. In the comics, Vision was created by Ultron and was meant to be one of his henchmen but in the end, the android turns against Ultron and joins the Avengers.

Age of Ultron begins production next month with Joss Whedon returning to the director’s chair alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner.

Up next is news that actually broke last night concerning Marvel’s phase III film, Ant-Man.  According to The Hollywood Reporter actress Evangeline Lilly of Lost and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug fame, is in talks for the lead female role opposite Paul Rudd.  Whom she may be portraying hasn’t been revealed yet, but according to THR, “It’s unclear who Lilly would play but it is not intended to be a one-off appearance.”

Perhaps the role Lilly is up for is Janet van Dyne aka The Wasp.  I know many fans want Rashida Jones and personally it would be nice to see a woman of color up for a main role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  According to sources from Variety, the role could possibly be Hank Pym’s daughter.  Hank Pym will be played by Michael Douglas and Paual Rudd will play Scott Lang.

And that’s the latest updates from the Marvel films. What do you geeks think of theses announcements?

Exclusive: Captain America 3 Starting To Take Shape At Marvel

captain america

With the sequel to “Captain America: The First Avenger” coming to theaters this April, Marvel has its eyes set on a third installment for the franchise. Though not officially greenlit, according to sources for Variety, brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will return as directors for the third film.

No negotiations have started yet as the ‘Winter Soldier’ isn’t in theaters, but according to Variety, Marvel was very impressed with the production of the sequel as well as the positive reactions from recent test screenings, that the studio moved quickly to lock down the brothers for the third film.

Many of the actors have options for a third film and as long as the ‘Winter Soldier’ performs well at the box office, a third film is definitely in the future.  No writer or release date has been announced, but sources say that Marvel and the Russos have started outlining what the third film’s story arc would be.

The almighty Kevin Feige will produce and Chris Evans will return in the starring role. The Russos have previously directed over 30 episodes of NBC’s “Community,”  and took over directing duties from “Captain America: The First Avenger” director Joe Johnson.  As of now, Marvel and Russo’s reps have no comment.

This move by Marvel signifies that they are very confident in the directors of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”.  Since “Iron Man”, Fiege and the studio have always been cautious of committing to directors for future installments of their franchises too early in the process. Normally, Marvel seal the deal early in order for the director to assist with developing future sequels but the studio can and has moved faster when it was necessary-case in point when ‘Thor”director Kenneth Branagh passed on the sequel, Marvel signed Alan Taylor.

We’ll see whether or not the move paid off when “Captain America: the Winter Soldier” hits theaters on April 4.
