Last weekend it was announced that Southland’s Ben McKenzie (of The O.C. formerly) was cast as James Gordon for the upcoming Fox show Gotham. Yesterday the casting of few more roles were announced.
Actor Sean Pertwee has been cast as Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s guardian and father figure. Pertwee’s acting credits include Lestrade on Elementary, and episode of Luther and Skins and much more. According to Variety On Gotham, Alfred is described as “A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Pennyworth has loyally served the Wayne family. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne — the boy who will eventually become Batman.”
In addition, actress Zabryna Guevara has been cast as Captain Essen, Detective Gordon’s boss. “Essen balances the two worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that’s as much corporate litigator as cop.’ While Erin Richards has been cast as Barbara Kean, Gordon’s fiance. She’s being described as “a sophisticated emergency doctor, Kean stands by her husband amid the corrupt world of Gotham.”
Finally one of the villains has been cast. Previously we heard that Gotham would feature the Riddler, Catwoman, the Joker, and the Penguin. Actor Robin Taylor (Another Earth, Accepted) has been chosen to portray Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin. “With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney, and hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.”
Update:
Today Entertainment weekly reports that actor Donal Logue has been cast as Det. Harvey Bullock! According to ET, Bullock is “Det. Jim Gordon’s partner and mentor investigating the dramatic crimes of Gotham City. He’s described as a “rough-around-the-edges detective ” who “plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results … and he does it with old-school, forceful panache” (in the comics, the character is pretty brutal with suspects, but essentially a good guy).”
I loved watching Bullock in Batman: The Animated Series so I’m looking forward to what Logue will bring.
So there you have it folks! What do you think of these castings?
