Those who know me know that I have an overly complicated audio setup that includes a sound mixer, XLR microphone, 3 sound cards, 2 computer and… well… it goes on and on. The reason for my convoluted setup is because I like to dabble in the art of podcasting and I figure go big or go home. This past weekend I decided to switch out my desk from a large beast to something more practical; however, when I was done I encountered a problem. Previously I was using a swing-arm style make-shift microphone stand that I put together but with my new desk I had nowhere to mount it. I started to explore different options and decided that I should just bite the bullet and buy a boom-style stand. I started to explore and came across the “On Stage Stands MS7701B” stand. I had a gift card to the local big-box store so I decided to purchase it there – the price was only $39.99 and yet it looked like a decent quality stand. I got the store and lucked out finding it was on sale for $29.99 so I bought it on the spot.
I have to say that especially given the price the stand is constructed extremely well. It doesn’t feel cheap like other lower-priced stands I’ve come across. In the cheaper stands I find even when they’re locked up they’re flimsy; however, this stand is solid. More importantly this stand is very flexible and can be adjusted to a variety of heights and positions as most boom-style stands are. Whether you’re a podcaster or someone trying to pick up their guitar for a amateur recording, for the price you can’t go wrong. Great find, great deal, great product.
