The best thing I played last week was the DC Deck-Building Game by Cryptozoic studios. After the stunning review this game got from Gonna Geek’s very own ATGN/Tabletop Bebop podcast I got the idea that this would be a really good game for me, the wife, and our friends. We got it, we played, a fun time was had.
The box comes with a small stack of oversized hero cards and a much larger stack of different cards used to play the game; super-villains, weakness’s, vulnerabilities, etc, plus a nice 15 page book of rules. The cards are well made and covered with beautiful art. The rule book looks nice and reads like it was translated from English to Japanese to German and then back into English. I’m actually not sure if it was written as a way to understand the game or as a small cruel trick by the Joker. Either way about 5 minutes into the first time you play the game it starts to make sense, 5 minutes after that you really start having fun.
Playing just a 2 person game of DC Deck-Building Game with the wife, we used the smaller stack of super-villains and dove right into the action. There was a quick learning curve and we had a very enjoyable time. As you progress through the game you quickly realize how best to play towards your super hero’s bonus ability to increase your deck building. Taking down the super-villains becomes an after effect as messing with the other players is a so much more enjoyable goal. We are planning another night to play this game with friends and hope we will have even more fun the second time around. I think you should too, get this great game and enjoy it with your friends and families.
I love this game. Can’t wait to play the expansion once it comes out.
