Phillip Tan takes over art chores on THE HELLBLAZER with issue 7

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

As John Constantine and Mercury continue to help SWAMP THING look for his lost wife, Abby, fan favorite Philip Tan picks up the art chores as series debut artist Moritat departs.

Tan describes his classic Constantine inspirations to DC COMICS. “I’ve recently read the original run of Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing, and can’t believe how amazing John Constantine’s first stories were. It’s the version that has inspired my artwork for this story. I think people will find a fresh, yet nostalgic, version of John Constantine, as Simon Oliver and I bring the readers along on his adventures.”

DC/USPS announce WONDER WOMAN 75th Anniversary Commemorative stamps

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Like Superman and batman before her, WONDER WOMAN will have her 75th anniversary immortalized with a sheet of FOREVER STAMPS (stamps that retain current stamp price value) from the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE.

This isn’t the Amazonian Warrior Princess’ first stamp, but it is her first full sheet.

The sheet will feature four rows of five stamps, each depicting Wonder Woman over the years.
WonderWoman2016-Pane-v1b

On the first row of stamps Wonder Woman of the Modern Age wields a hammer with a power and determination befitting her roots in the heroic world of Greek mythology.

The Bronze Age Wonder Woman’s bold stance empowers the second row of stamps. With her fist held high and bulletproof bracelets gleaming, the Amazon princess leads the charge against injustice.

The third row of stamps depicts Wonder Woman during the Silver Age. Although she possesses great strength and speed, the world’s favorite superheroine prefers compassion to the use of brute force. With her golden lasso of truth close at hand, she compels honesty from her foes.

In the last row of stamps, Wonder Woman from the Golden Age bursts onto the scene as originally envisioned by creator William Moulton Marston.

Art director Greg Breeding of Charlottesville, VA, designed the stamp pane. The Wonder Woman stamps will be issued as Forever stamps and always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price.

DC plans JUSTICE LEAGUE VS SUICIDE SQUAD mini-event for Dec/Jan

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

The WALL STREET JOURNAL announced DC’s first post-REBIRTH event, JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD. FLASH’s Joshua Williamson JLvsSS_Fabok_2will write and NEW 52 JUSTICE LEAGUE artist Jason Fabok will the draw the six issue mini-event, which will ship bi-weekly in December, and finish out weekly in January. The story will also cross over into SUICIDE SQUAD 9 and 10, and JUSTICE LEAGUE 12 and 13.

The team’s class when Batman, after several encounters with Amanda Waller in his own series, questions the need for TASK FORCE X when the JUSTICE LEAGUE is already on hand.  GEOFF JOHNS helped Williamson lay-out the series and which characters will share the spotlight. The story will center around BATMAN, HARLEY QUINN, DEADSHOT, and KILLER FROST, though the cast of both teams (and more) will play a role. “That’s been one of the biggest challenges, easily: trying to make sure every character has a moment, but isn’t forced,” Williamson said, and will explore themes of corruption and redemption, adding “Do you believe in second chances? I think that’s a big part of what Rebirth has been about.”

The story is a part of the REBIRTH continuity, and will have lasting effects on the DCU, including the relaunch of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA as on ongoing. JL of A was originally announced as part of the inaugural REBIRTH laucnh, but has yet to hit stands.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.

Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which includes the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from sales made to thousands of comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world.  Additional sales made to online merchants and other specialty retailers may be included as well.

Unit and dollar market shares are calculated based upon orders for comic books, graphic novels, and magazines invoiced and shipped to Diamond customers during any given month, which comprises pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable. Please note that comics marked with an asterisk (*) have had their reported quantities reduced due to retailer returnability, and thus may rank lower on the charts than their actual sales would reflect.

The New Titles Count Chart includes all titles that were invoiced by Diamond to retailers for the first time during the month and is not the official solicited title count for the month. Variant edition comic books and graphic novels at the same price point count as a single SKU. Variant edition comic books, lenticular covers, digital combo packs, and graphic novels at different price points count as separate SKUs for each edition.
