Second Suicide Trailer Released

At the end of the CW’s  DC Films Presents: The Dawn of the Justice League special, Margot Robbie aka Harley Quinn introduced the second Suicide Squad trailer. Set to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, this trailer had a more comical approach to the film and there was action and funny moments galore. Take a look:

In addition, two posters for the upcoming film were released. The poster below features the whole team Deadshot (Will Smith), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Slipknot (Adam Beach), the Joker (Jared Leto) and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) as x’s mark the spot.

Zack Snyder to Helm Justice League Movie

justice leagueGreg Silverman, Warner Bros president of worldwide production, has confirmed that WB will be moving forward with a Justice League movie following 2016s Superman vs. Batman movie.  The movie will be directed by Zack Snyder and will star Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot.  Presumably, the other superheroes being introduced in Superman vs. Batman will be featured in the movie as well.

Silverman has said that Justice League “will be a further expansion of this universe, Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.'”

Is anyone else thinking that Summer 2018 we might get the Avengers and Justice League facing off in a box office showdown?

Breaking: Jesse Eisenberg & Jeremy Irons Cast In Man of Steel 2

We didn’t see this coming, did we?

Today it was announced that Jesse Eisenberg has been cast to play Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons has been cast to play Bruce Wayne’s father figure, Alfred.  I’ll give you a minute to let that sink in your heads.

While I would have loved to see Bryan Cranston as Lex, I could see Eisenberg taking on the role of Luthor. He can bring the bitter-narcissistic, intensity, ego, and nerd skills that Luthor has.  He’s younger than Lex usually is but then again who’s not to say that the film calls for a younger version of Lex?

Here’s what director Zack Synder had to say about Eisenberg as Luthor:

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

 And on Irons as Alfred:

“As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

I think Irons can pull definitely pull this off. He’s a good actor.

The casting revelations for this film have created super sized brain farts in the minds of fans.  Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, these two castings have created huge debates in fandom and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred will do the same.

The film is set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016

Gal Gadot Signs Three Picture Deal With Warner Bros.

gal got

News broke yesterday that actress Gal Gadot has signed a three picture deal with Warner Bros.  According to Variety, the Israeli actress who was recently cast to play Wonder Woman in the upcoming untitled sequel to Man of Steel is set to appear not only in the sequel but also a Justice League film and a standalone Wonder Woman film.

Gadot, who had appeared on the Israeli entertainment show “Good Evening with Gai Pines” not to long ago to discuss training for the role as well as fan reaction, appeared once again on the show to reveal the news.  She also stated that she would be paid $300,000 for to appear in the sequel. You can watch the interview here (it’s in Hebrew).

With this news, my hopes for one of my favorite characters to hit the big screen are cautiously rising. I don’t doubt Gadot’s physical abilities, I am worried about her acting abilities. I hope with the year delay of the untitled Batman vs. Superman film, Gadot will give an amazing kick-ass performance of the Amazon.  We’ll have to wait till 2016. My fingers are crossed and I hope yours are as well. What’s your thoughts on the three picture deal?

‘Batman vs Superman’ Delayed to 2016

Earlier today a rumor started floating around the Internet that the filming of Batman vs. Superman would be pushed back by 6 weeks.  People were wondering why and Batman-News was on top of the rumor.  Rumor has it Ben Affleck injured his leg on set and that would cause a delay in the film.

It seems there will be a delay as Warner Bros. just issued a press release stating that the Batman vs. Superman film will be pushed back to May 6, 2016.  That’s one heck of a delay.  Warner Bros is stating that the delay is to allow the filmmakers to “realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story.”  No mention of the Ben Affleck injury so far, that leads me to believe it is just a rumor.  If it does in fact get confirmed we’ll be sure to let you know.  Until then,be sure to check out the latest episode of the GonnaGeek.com podcast where we talk about the Batman vs. Superman news.

If you want more information check out the press release from Warner Bros. below:

BURBANK, CA – January 17, 2014 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year. The Studio has also set a July 17, 2015, worldwide release date for its as-yet-untitled all-new Peter Pan adventure. Joe Wright will direct the epic live-action film about the boy who would never grow up, created by J.M. Barrie. The dual date announcement was made by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases. We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today’s moviegoers.”

Kwan Vandenberg added, “We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next Super Hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever. The summer release corridor is also perfect for Joe Wright’s ambitious new Peter Pan adventure, reimagining the ageless story of the beloved and forever-young hero for audiences worldwide.”

Zack Snyder’s Superman/Batman film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

Snyder will direct the film from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer, from a story co-created by Goyer and Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, published by DC Entertainment.

Batman vs. Superman Wonder Woman Cast

It’s official! We will finally see Wonder Woman on the big screen as Warner Bros. has announced who will play the Amazon princess in the upcoming untitled Batman vs. Superman sequel to Man of Steel.  So who is it? Drum roll please…

Wonder Woman/Diana Prince will be played by 28 year-old Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot.  Aside from playing small roles, she’s best known for her role as Gisele Yashar in Fast and Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6.

Speaking about the casting Man of Steel director Zack Synder said, “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Rumors have been stirring for a while now on whether Wonder Woman would finally appear in the Man of Steel sequel. Back in September, Latino Review’s El Mayimbe broke a scoop that Bruce Wayne would have a love interest in the film and he mentioned among other suggestions that maybe the love interest could be Wonder Woman. He kept updating the scoop and in November via Justin Kroll at Variety, he gave fans the names of the top four contenders and the first name on the list was Gal Gadot which has now been confirmed by Warner Bros.

Now that it’s official, how do you fans feel about the news? Are you excited that Wonder Woman’s going to be in a live action film finally after all these years? Do you think Gal Gadot will make an excellent kick-ass superhero?

The film will hit theaters July 15, 2015 and will star Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

It’s about damn time!

Fox Gets A Jim Gordon Series

Some of you might have been distracted last night with the start of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD but Fox and DC dropped some news on us.  Following a bidding war between the major networks Fox has announced the arrival of a new show entitled ‘Gotham.’  To give you an idea the level of confidence Fox has in the new show its worth pointing out this is a straight-to-series order, meaning no pilot stage.

Gordon_year1Early reports from Deadline state that the new series will focus on young Detective James Gordon and ‘the villains that made Gotham famous.’  It was also made clear that Gotham will take place before Jim Gordon meets Batman and that Batman will not play a part in the series.  If you want one of my patented conspiracy theories though, notice they never said that Bruce Wayne would not be in the series.  Keep an eye open for a possible Bruce Wayne cameo.

Bruno Heller, known for writers credits in Rome and The Mentalist, will be writing the Jim Gordon based series.  Right now, many people are expecting the series to launch in the 2014-2015 TV season.

This is quite the coup for DC and WB though.  Arrow has become a surprise breakout hit and DC has also announced plans to make a Flash spin-off.  Add in this new Jim Gordon series and its entirely possible that there could be 3 DC Comics series on the air in 2014.  While some might say that DC is losing the movie war against Marvel they will definitely be the leader when it comes to TV shows in 2014.

At this point we haven’t heard anything about crossovers between the three shows.  This could be difficult as the shows are broadcast on two competing networks, but you never know what could happen.  However, I think its entirely possible that the Jim Gordon series could be used to establish the Gordon character and Gotham City before the Superman/Batman film released in 2015.  One thing to keep in mind is this folks, its a great time to be a comic book fan as comic properties are going to be everywhere for the next few years!

Casting The Next Batman

bats supes logo

With the huge announcement at Comic Con that Batman would be part of the Man of Steel sequel there is a lot of speculation as to just who will assume the cowl of the Dark Knight.  While Warner Bros and DC haven’t announced anything as to who will be the next Batman its fun to speculate.  Here’s a list of actors I think would be interesting to see as the Dark Knight on the big screen.  This list is in no particular order so don’t read anything into who is listed first or last.

Karl Urban – This is a name that game up in an informal Facebook poll I put up the other night. Lots of people threw Karl Urban’s name out for consideration. He’s a tough guy with a gruff voice so it seems like a good fit to me. Also, he’s been involved in Summer blockbusters with the Star Trek franchise. The real question is, does DC want Judge Dredd to be Batman? My guess is that would keep Urban out of the running for Batman in addition to his schedule to film the next Star Trek.

Matt Bomer – While I was hoping to see Bomer as Superman I still think he’d make a good Batman.  If you ever saw the show Chuck, Bomer was able to totally pull off the role of the cocky spy Bryce Larkin and hold his weight in fight scenes.  Now in White Collar Bomer continues to own the screen as a cocky conman that has to wear many different personas.  These are all traits you’d like to see in the next Batman.  Heck, Bomer already has a connection to Warner and DC as he’s the voice of Superman in the most recent animated movie Superman Unbound.  The only problem is that Bomer is probably not tall enough to be the Dark Knight.

Armie Hammer – You all might remember that a Justice League movie almost happened a few years back.  Actors had been signed to play roles and the scripts were done before the Justice League project was abruptly cancelled.  Hammer was cast to play Batman in the Justice League movie.  Seems to me that Warner Bros and DC might look at him again to play the role of Batman.  What might keep him from the role is the fact that The Lone Ranger is currently stinking up the box office.  That movie might give Warner Bros some doubts in regards to Hammer’s ability to be a box office draw.

Michael Fassbender – This seems to be a popular pick on the Internet as well.  To be honest Fassbender owns almost any role he takes on and remakes himself into the character.  Just look at his portrayal of Magneto in X-Men First Class.  Fassbender also stole the show in Inglourious Basterds.  I think it’d be pretty interesting to see his take on Bruce Wayne and Batman.  I can’t help but think he would be able to pull off the dual identity.  Here’s the problem though he’s heavily featured in a Marvel film franchise and that fact might give Warner Bros and DC pause.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Just stick with me for a second here.  If you want to go with an older grizzled Batman then Morgan would be an interesting pick.  We’ve seen his portrayal of The Comedian in Watchman and that was pulled off pretty well.  He has the physical presence and voice that I would expect from Batman.

Gabriel Macht – This is my dark horse pick that I don’t think many others will suggest.  If you aren’t familiar with him he plays the role of Harvey Specter in the USA drama Suits.  Harvey is arrogant and cocky in the court room and the bulk of his professional life and Macht nails this element of the character.  Not only that but he gives glimpses of the ‘real’ Harvey behind the lawyer persona.  This would be perfect for Bruce Wayne in a movie.  While I didn’t really care for the movie version of The Spirit, Macht was one of the lone good parts in his portrayal of the main character.  He has experience as a big screen crimefighter of course for that same reason Warner and DC might overlook him.  Personally, Gabriel Macht is my pick for the next Batman.

This list was my complete speculation for people who could be considered as the next Batman.  By no way is anything official  or an indicator of the directions DC and Warner Bros are looking.  Who would you all want to see as the next Batman?  Let us know in the comments below!
