If you’ve ever watched Better Podcasting there’s a good chance that you’ve heard Stephen and I regularly recommend the Audio-Technica AT2005 and Audio-Technica ATR2100 USB/XLR microphones. The fact that these microphones are cardioid dynamic, provide an overall good listenable sound, and offer the versatility of being both XLR and USB makes it easy for us to recommend. Needless to say, when the Knox KN-UM01 began being discussed in a variety of podcast communities, the fact that it looked almost identical to an Audio-Technica AT2005 (with the switch of an Audio-Technica ATR2100) and was only a fraction of the price, meant that I had to give it test.
In the YouTube test below, I’ll give my overall impressions of the microphone, provide 3 different sound tests comparing it to the ATR2100 and the AT2005 and I’ll even discuss the response I received from Knox when I inquired about the similarities to the Audio-Technica microphones. Spoiler alert: The microphone impressed me.

Great review, SP. I may have to pick one up to supplement my ART2100 when I’m on the road.
