Many do overs with the script and rumors later, and we finally according to The Wrap and Variety we know who has been cast for Fox’s the Fantastic Four reboot. And they are:
Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan will be playing our heroes in blue (with a four in a circle).
Recently Mara accepted a deal to play Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman. Michael B. Jordan will play her brother Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch and I’ll more to say about that in a few more paragraphs. Now the deals on the other two members have yet to be closed but it appears that Bell will play Ben Grimm aka The Thing, while Teller will play Reid Richards aka Mr. Fantastic.
With the heroes on board, the film has yet to find its villain and rumors abound that Dr. Doom will be play by a lady.
The film is set to hit theaters June 19th 2015. It’s based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four and will focus on the characters as young heroes. Chronicle director Josh Trank is at the helm with script writer Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn and Gregory Goodman as producers.
I didn’t mind the previous two Fantastic Four films (I haven’t seen the 1994 version though I hear it’s available via bootleg). I didn’t like Julian McMahon’s version of Dr. Doom and I though I love Jessica Alba, I think she did a meh job as Sue Storm. I thought the rest of the cast were fantastic, so I’m looking forward to see how this new film does. It’s not one that I’m gonna go see at a midnight showing or on the weekend when it just comes out most likely.
With the exception of Michael B. Jordan, I’m not familiar with these new folks who’ve been cast. So I don’t really have an opinion on how they’re gonna do. I hope that they do well. Now about Mr. Jordan. Ever since the rumors started that he was a front runner to play the Human Torch, there have been cheers and jeers. And a lot of those jeers have been racist ones. Some can’t understand how it would be possible for a black guy and a white lady to be related-and may I remind everyone that were talking about fictional characters mind you!
Well let me explain how they can be: 1. Adoption, 2. They’re step-siblings, 3. They could be biracial (and yes one can be darker than the other, it’s possible), 4. They could be twins (and yes I know that Sue is older than Johnny but it’s they can change that if they want and then you guys can begin to complain about that) and one came out white and the other black and if you don’t think it’s possible than I suggest you read about it really happening here , here, here and ooh! here.
And I know some of you will say “Well that’s not staying true to the character.” But Johnny’s race is not defined by his character! When he was created back in the day, White was pretty much the only color a superhero could be, White was the default. If you could describe Johnny Storm without telling me the color of his skin how would you describe him? He’s the youngest of the group, he’s self-assertive, he’s cocky, arrogant, he rushes into things. That description could fit anybody. But then some of you will say “Then the Black Panther can be played by a White actor.” and I will say, Ah no, Black Panther’s race is essential to his character. The fact that he’s a black African King is a huge part of who T’Challa is. If you take that away then you no longer have a Black Panther.
Michael B. Jordan is a great actor and I know that he’ll be a great Johnny Storm. Those of you who can’t accept that, well you don’t have to go see the film and you have Chris Evans in the previous films to enjoy. Or you can enjoy both Johnnys. It’s your choice.
Anyways, let me know how you feel about the casting of the new Fantastic Four.

I agree. There are characters like Captain America and T’Challa that couldn’t be another race because their heritage is a symbol. I didn’t get butthurt when Idris played Heimdall because his race is irrelevant as a supporting character. Thor, though, he has to be a blonde haired, blue eyed Viking God. Storm can’t be white. Luke Cage would be debatable but casting him as white would be career suicide. Green Lantern or Wonder Woman as a black actor/actress = irrelevant. Johnny Storm is largely irrelevant as comic relief in the books anyway though and I don’t even know who these actors are.
It’s not a film I’m looking forward to. But I do hope it’ll turn out good.
The casting (I’m talking all of it – not just one person) is intriguing to say the least…
