We start this episode with Bonnie talking about her father’s death with Jeremy, and how hard it was for her to just watch him died. Since he is not supernatural he didn’t go to the other side for her to say goodbye. Jeremy wants to comfort her but since they are unable to feel each other he resolves to stopping Silas. Elena and Caroline are still trying to do this whole “normal college ” thing as vampires. They show up for a pre med biology class only for the professor to kick them out, for being a freshman in an advanced class. While in the class though he does boast about his knowledge about the civil war history of the area. At the quarry, Damon tries to convince Liz to dredge the quarry for drowning Stefan. Jeremy calls Damon to report on their capture of Katherine. He tells them to keep her out of sight. She realizes she’s the leverage, the thing that everybody wants. “I’m the frickin’ moonstone,” she says.
They pull over at a gas station, where Katherine claims she has to go to the bathroom and asks for meds for her growing cold. With Matt inside and Jeremy pumping gas, Katherine tries to sneak out but is spotted by the gas station attendant. He goes for his shotgun, when the mind control kicks in and Matt disarms him just in time.
Damon shows up on campus and convinces Caroline to go look for Elena, explaining that Stefan is Silas. Caroline mentions the bad feeling Elena had all summer that something was wrong with Stefan. Walking across campus, Stefan tries to call Jeremy from Elena’s phone, when he can not reach Jeremy he tells her he’s going to hold on to it incase he calls. Elena can’t believe Damon didn’t tell her about what’s going on with Jeremy. Stefan gets a text about Katherine and asks where Jeremy could be going on Route 9. Elena mentions a campsite they used to go.
Jesse hot guy flyer guy from the first episode, finds Elena at the keg and offers to tell her everything about Dr. Maxfield if she comes with him to get firewood. In a shed, he picks up a small piece of kindling, like a stake, and tells her Maxfield meets in a kind of secret society three times a week. Damon rushes in and knocks Jesse out.
Matt Runs into Stefan in the woods when he commands Matt not to scream matt is able to anyways and yells for Jeremy and Kathrine to run. Silas doesn’t understand why he can’t get in Matt’s head, so he mental searches and sees that someone already put a spell on him and is in there. Stilas calls him “Traveler.” Silas snaps Matt’s neck. Luckily for Matt he was wearing Jeremy’s ring, which sends him briefly to the otherside. Here Matt speaks with Bonnie and she informs him that he has to find his body to go back, Matt realized if he can see Bonnie but Jeremy and Katherina couldn’t see him when they ran by then Bonnie is dead. She and Jeremy have been hiding it all summer.
Back at college, Elena takes Damon to her room and jumps on him. Then she pours the vervain-laced water down his throat and ties him to a chair. He realizes Silas got in her head. He told her to get Damon alone, weaken him, and then kill him.
She pours more vervain water down his neck and he spits it on her. The burns momentarily snap her out of the mind control.
Damon explains what’s going on. Elena asks where Stefan is and gets madder and madder. Stilas’s mind control kicks in again and Damon explains her anger must be triggering it. She tries to resist killing him, then stakes her own leg to immobilize herself Damon explains that Bonnie’s dad died and Elena starts to get angry all over again at Damon for lying to her about Jeremy. “Stefan’s been suffering for months while I’ve been rolling around with you,” Elena says. She gets angrier and angrier, until she rips the line to the gas.Damon pleads with her to think about something stronger than her desire to kill him and prompts her to talk about what she feels about Stefan. She can feel that Stefan is scared and lonely and in a lot of pain.Elena realizes her rage is gone, Stilas’s mind control is broken.
Elena packs up her car to leave college. Dr. Maxfield recognizes Elena as Grayson Gilbert’s daughter. She asks about the lie on Megan’s death certificate. He invites her to office hours tomorrow, but she says she has other things to worry about. Damon joins her, bringing her Stefan’s daylight ring. He tells her he’s secure enough in their relationship that he’s not bothered that she’s having psychic dreams about her ex-boyfriend. She promises they’ll find Stefan and she’ll still love Damon. Sheriff Forbes calls. In the woods, she shows them the safe, not in the quarry, but in the forest nearby. They open it up, but Stefan is not inside, another dead man is and after three months of starving, Stefan was hungry. This brings on the a relapse of the Ripper
I’m torn on this show right now, this was one of my favorite show during the summer. But I’m upset that they are going back to the Elena loves Stephen so fast. I’m glad to see Matt and Jeremy taking more of a lead but the series seems to be lacking a sorta flar that they had the last three season. Maybe I am just missing the Mikelsons, lucky I get to watch them on tuesdays. I feel like they are trying to drive away their views. I for one will stop watching if they put Elena back with Stefan. The professor with his vast knowlege of the area history makes me miss Alric, CW please bring him back!!
