Happy Halloween Geeks!! I hope your night has been filled with ghoulish fun and sweet sweet candy!! We did a spiders nest for our halloween decorations including skeletons hung in webs, spider egg sacs, and sprinkled it all with red glowstick solution to make for a fighting exterior.
I combined both last nights shows and tonights shows in one review due to halloween activities taking up yesterday. So if you’re ready lets strap in and and take a bite.
Arrow: Crucible
Last night on Arrow the Black Canary was unmasked revealing that it was Sara Lance, Laurel’s sister!! She apparently came back to the Glades when she heard about the earthquake, but has been staying to watch after her family. Though She admits to Sin that she is not the same girl that they remember because she has done things. I’m thinking
thats a hit to a lot of flashbacks to come in the near episodes. Meanwhile businessman Queen, is hosting parties and events to try to make the name of his corporation and family less related to causing the earthquake and more to helping restore the city. Queen decides he is going to do a private backing of a gun buyback event, to help get some of the weapons off the streets. He decided to not plaster his name on it in hopes to draw more people to it. At the gun buyback Roy introduces Sin to Thea, and Sin is surprised to see what people, Roy spends most of his days with. Queen shows up and observes from afar with Alderman, and notes that the collection is going well so far. Suddenly the Mayor, a man who considers, himself king of the Glades, arrives on a truck bed alongside two well-armed men. They open fire and hit several bystanders and police officers. Alderman is nearly hit but Queen tackles him, pulling him out of the way at the last moment. Sin is hit in the stomach and Roy quickly gets to her sending Thea to call for help. Using facial recognition software Felicity finds out Mayor is a man named Xavier Reed. He has no military experience himself, but one of his foster brothers is stationed at the same base that has been losing the weapons. A huge convoy of weapons is scheduled to come through that night, Which instead of being delivered to the military is intercepted by the Mayor. Arrow teams up with Black Canary, and stops the weapons from disappearing. It is here that arrow convinces her to leave them to the authorities. Back at the hospital Sin makes it through the surgery and an anonymous donor, um Queen, takes care of the bill. It also seems that He has convinced Sara to tell her family she’s alive. During the episode we also get to see Queen go through his own transformation on the ship where his captors have him remove his own bullet to show his inner strength. The question him about the island and the bodies that were found last episode. Queen doesn’t say anything, but they know from his silence it is the right island. He is lead to the room where they planned to torture him and in walks sara, revealing how he knew she was still alive.
Okay I had to watch this episode twice, just to catch everything and I still think i missed little things. As someone who has not read the comics it surprised me that the “dead” sister was the masked woman. Looking back on it though it does seem right. I am also confused as to who the guy is in the end that injects the mayor with something that looks like a super-syrium. I guess I will get that info in the coming episodes.
Tomorrow people: Kill or Be Killed
Another week, and another childhood ruined by the three “T’s”. But perhaps more importantly, we got some insight into his early experience with Ultra and how Jedikiah took the youngster under his wing. We met young John when he was already living the foster kid life, stuck with a bunch of other hopeless children in the household
of a deadbeat, drunk asshole who took the gig just for the money. The child John was a lot like present day John: angry, but very willing to protect those he cares about. Jedikiah was able to take advantage of that. He taught John how to build up his abilities while giving him the kind of paternal structure that John simply never had with the foster family. Jedikiah basically became John’s father, a bond that the present-day stuff in this episode further reinforced. As the episode continues we find out that Ultra found a way to evolve the Tomorrow People, so they can go against their nature and kill. Well kinda it seems that the main villain of the episode Killian McCrane (Jason Dohring of Veronica Mars fame), and John seem to be the only two to master that. Furthermore, this episode shows that John if force will still kill, as he does with Killian when he goes on a rampage.
So this was a very emotional episode at times, I feel bad for all these orphans, but it goes back to being a parallel version of X-men. I wonder if John’s biological parents will make a showing later in the series. One or both of them may have been a carrier for it. Also Stephen’s mom apparently knows about the three “T’s”, or maybe is a Tomorrow people member as well.
Coven: Fearful Pranks Ensue
We start the episode with the aftermath of the minitar. Fiona finds Queenie laying in the greenhouse, blood pouring out of her tummy for the sexual encounter. Queenie with her last bit of strength warns Fiona, in time for her to remove the head of the minitar. Fiona would later mail that head to Marie Laveau, at her salon, declaring war. Fiona takes Queenie inside and calls for Cordelia to help restore her health. Cordelia blames her mother for the attack on Queenie, and In turn, Fiona blames Cordelia for showing weakness and going to visit Marie in her quest to have a child. Delphine is still stunned after her brush with the minotaur. She’s very grateful, and a little surprised, that Queenie would saved her, and promises to repay her.
The next morning, The council of witches shows up at the door unexpectedly. Cordelia believes that they are their originally over the incident with Queenie but they express that they didn’t know about it but that she should have reported it when it happened. Instead they revile during an interrogation that they received word from Nan, that she believes Madison is Dead because she can’t hear her thoughts anymore. The Council asks questions of Cordelia, Nan and Queenie, trying to determine whether or not Fiona had a hand in Madison’s disappearance. This leads to a rather lengthy flashback where the the head of the council, Myrtle, is revealed to have been in school with Fiona and suspected her of killing the Supreme at the time. She casted a spell on Spalding to force him to tell the truth about cleaning up the murder. In order to prevent the spell from working Spalding cut out his tongue, rather than testify against Fiona before The Council. Spauldings first and apparently last words of the season were, “Thank you for coming. These are my last words, Miss Fiona. I have always loved you.” Cordelia, stands up to the council, and says that the Head of the Council is on a “40 year witch hunt” and drops the a bombshell on them and Fiona. Madison can’t be the new “supreme” because a sign of the gift is “perfect health”, and Madison had issues with her blood pressure.
Cordelia and Fiona go out for drinks to celebrate. Fiona tries to warn her daughter that Hank is bad news, while Cordelia tries to get her mother to admit that she killed Madison. Neither is very successful. Drunk Cordelia excuses herself to puke up, and has acid thrown, by a hooded figure.. At the school, Spalding drinks tea with his dolls and Madison’s corpse, which he did not dispose of, while Delphine passes out Halloween candy. Delphine answers the door for r Luke, who has brought Nan some candy. Then, she answers the door and sees her zombie daughters there sent by Marie. The zombie daughters were just the beginning — a whole gang of zombies rushes the school as the episode ends.
Okay, so a couple things that struck me as foreshadowing. The first is Spaulding, if Fiona has been gallivanting around the world and everyone else has left the school why does he remain? I’m wondering if while he was still a good looking man if he didn’t get it on with Fiona to become Cordelia’s father. It makes sense that he stayed there to look after his child. The second is the masked individual, from what i have been reading from other reviews most people believe that it was one of Marie Laveau’s people. I don’t, I believe that it was her mother, that threw the acid on her for not telling her who the supreme is. Which brings me to the third foreshadowing, I noticed. They narrowed it down to two possible people that could be the supreme, (btw I hate calling them that makes me think of tacos) Misty and Zoe. Queenie, is ruled out because of her obesity, Nan for her down syndrome, and Cordelia because of her infertility. So when we start with the zombie attacks.
The Vampire Diaries: Monster Ball
The Halloween episode of the vampire diaries was epic!! The smallest part, but big in significance, went to Jesse and the professor, It season that the Professor turned Jesse to study the Vampire transition. It has been 3 days in Mystic Falls since Bonnies funeral. and the Jesse is alive he is fading fast due to the hunger and not feeding. This leads us to Tyler and Caroline who have spent the last three days having sex and more sex. Caroline is so happy that he has come back into her life, she has enrolled him in classes, choose his major for him and set him up for a single person bedroom. Tyler has other plans though after the dance, they went back to the room where he tells
her he can’t be with her because Klaus gave them permission and he’s not a lap dog. He plans on hunting Klaus to ruin his life like he he believes his life is. I know their love has always been hot and steamy but why when Caroline was at the dance and didn’t see Jessie did she not at least give him a thought. Elena is having issues dealing with Bonnie’s death and writes in her journal how much she misses her. She blames herself and Damon for having a fun summer and not figuring out that she was dead. Damon shows up at college complains that she won’t talk to him, and has only sent her one text message. Damon decides that he needs to fix this, so he discusses with Jeremy, and an unhappy Bonnie, going to Silas for help on resurrecting Bonnie. Silas agrees if Damon will keep his brother dead so that his powers will come back so that he can get inside of Tess’s head. When she figures out what he is doing because Stefan shows up she freezes Sila’s We find out that there is an anchor that exists that the other side is bound too, ie Matt’s Dagger, and with that he will bring down the veil and bring bonnie back from the dead and pass over himself. We also get to see what’s going on with Katherine, the woman that is holding her is, get this Her daughter, and she wants revenge because she thinks her mother abandoned her. She had herself turned into a vampire, so she could look for her but when confronted about where she was at 8 years old . She finds out once Kathrine had dodged Nicklaus enough that she felt safe going home, we knew this from season 2, that she went back for her child to find everyone dead. Before what looks like Katherine skipping town she responds to damons text messages and when she shows up at the boarding house, Damon feels sorry about his plan but he force feeds her to Silas, As her blood drains he comes back to life. The Damon and Elena hear Katherine’s heartbeat as she comes back alive, thinking she is in hell.
So wow this is definitely heating up. and what is with this new kid Aaron, who apparently is the good professor’s adoptive son? I hope for goodness sakes Damon and Elena can get through this hurdle. I dont want to see more relationships torn apart. And please someone rescue Jesse. I like the boy he has a softness and if Caroline can not go to be with Klaus then I’d like to see her be with Jesse even if its only for a little while. I have to ask though, if Silas takes down the veil, will we be able to have Alric, Lexi, Mason and Bonnie back, Also how will that affect the plot of the Originals because the three witch girls that were part of the harvest, should be trapped in the veil. And we are lead to believe that the worlds are still existing at the same time.
So that wraps it up for the Halloween Week, I hope you all had fun I leave you with a special popcorn recipe to finish out our ghoulish night.
Monster Munch – Candy Popcorn
Ingredients
1/2 c popcorn kernels
1/2 c orange candy melts
1/2 c black candy melts
1/2 c candy corn M&M’s
1/2 c candy corn
edible monster eyes
Instructions
-
Step one: cover a 13×9 baking sheet with waxed paper. Make popcorn and lay a single layer on covered baking sheet.
-
Step two: melt candy melts in separate bowls over a double boiler or in the microwave. Stir frequently until completely melted.
-
Step three: pour candy melts into disposable piping bags or thick ziploc bags. Use a napkin or towel to hold the bag if it’s too hot. Snip off the tip of the bag and drizzle candy melts onto popcorn. I usually drizzle the black candy melts first, add the candy, then drizzle the orange candy melts on top. We used about 1 tablespoon of edible eyes (found at Hobby Lobby). Allow to cool then break apart and enjoy!
