So tonight was very interesting night for Fantasy Tv. We started out with the season premiere of Arrow on the cw at 8 pm est, one of the best shows of the night and probably the season in my opinion. Afterwards on the cw the series premiere of Tomorrow people executive produced by Julie Plec, her third show on tv currently, where we are taking into a world where humans are no longer the only ones on top of the food chain. An Finally we end our night with a trip to the dark side of New Orleans with American Horror story: Coven.
Arrow: City of Heroes
Our Season starts with Diggle and Felicity flying towards the island in search of our hero, Oliver Queen/Arrow. Oliver ran after he failed to save The glades from his father’s list leaving his mother facing prison a company in shambles and a sister hating who her family is. His friends clearly want to find him and bring him home. Felicity steps on a landmine which Digg tries to disarm, but Oliver appears in a tree and tells Digg to back away. Oliver swoops in like Tarzan and grabs Felicity so fast that the mine does not have time to hurt her. Oliver tells them he does not want to come back to Starling City. He considers himself a failure for letting the Glades be destroyed. He says he never wants to be the Hood again. Felicity and Digg tell him they don’t need Arrow, they need Oliver. “It’s time to come home,” Digg says.
Once in Starling City, Oliver see how much of a mess it has become since the catastrophe. Oliver gets briefed about the company trying to take his company over. It is headed by Isabell Rochev, played by Firefly celeb Summer Glau. Oliver’s ex-girlfriend Laurel is at a fundraising party for the Starling City mayor. Here we found out that Laurel has joined the DA’s office and moved on with her life as best as she could with Tommy’s death. The DA keeps talking about wanting to go after vigilantes, when the mayor takes the mic, some terrorists, The Hoods, burst in and begin shooting, hitting the mayor and some cops. One of The Hoods tells Laurel the group will take back everything the city took from the Glades.
The Hoods are watching TV to see the outrage and carnage caused by their act. Instead the news focus on the return of Oliver and his family. The next morning, Oliver goes to a meeting with Isabell to talk about her takeover of the company. Her company controls 45% of the company, Oliver has 45%, and the board has the remaining 10%. Isabell plans to buy it and break Queen Consolidated up. She knows Oliver doesn’t have the money to buy it for himself. She also taunts Oliver that because of the bad press he won’t be able to get help to to buy the 10% and his trust fund won’t be enough. At the Queen family nightclub, Verdant, The Hood burst in and want to find Oliver. They threaten to start shooting people until Oliver comes out. Roy jumps out and tackles one of the hood members, grabbing his gun. The other 2 members of The Hood grab Thea and leave with her as their hostage.
Seeing his sister kidnapped is the final straw for Oliver. He goes into the Arrow secret hideout and is back to being the hooded vigilante. Felicity and Digg are thrilled to have their superhero back. Oliver is still torn about being a killer, but to save his sister, he thinks he has no other choice.
Once finds his sister he honor’s Tommy’s memory by instead turning the Hood into the police, Laura’s father, after he has secured them to a fence so they could face true justice.
So this episode was a lot better than season one in my opinion. I’m confused with the flashbacks and how they related to what happened. Seemed like it was a overdone a bit but this show does a lot of flashbacks. Going forward I’m looking forward to Oliver cleaning up the city. But like Batman he will never be accepted except by a small circle of friends.
Tomorrow People: Pilot
So this is the first of a new Series, well kinda, this is actually based on a children’s show from the 1970’s show in Britain where the species Homo Superior has emerged in to population. Stephen is a high school that has been put on medication to suppress his powers by his mother but was told it was psychological drugs similar to what his deadbeat dad was on before he disappeared. However, the voice in his head isn’t of schizophrenia or a sexy daydream; it belongs to Cara, a member of “The Tomorrow People,” superpowered, homo-superior and awfully telegenic individuals whose superpower include telepathy, telekinesis and teleportation. But there’s another group that wants Stephen – Ultra, a government agency that hunts down the Tomorrow People and forces them to work against their own kind. Ultra is led by Dr. Jedikiah Price, who happens to be Stephen’s uncle, who captures Stephen. Cara, John and l Russell come to the rescue, but are little to no help since their powers don’t work with in the wall of the compound. Lucky for the team Stephen somehow teleports out of his restraints and even manages to bust out a new ability: He stops time when Jed tries to shoot John. When confronted with him Mom and brothers safety, though Stephen goes to work for the doctor.
It was a good start to a series, how ever it felt very teenage angst which is very CW. I’m interested in how far they will go with it. Right now I think He is going to use the corporation to help save the other children that the are hunting down.
American Horror Story Coven : Bitchcraft
Coven opens in 1834 New Orleans, with a Kathy Bates, a Deranged society woman who delights in dreaming up new ways to torture her slaves. Early on, she daubs blood, sourced from human pancreas, on her face like Noxzema, . In her attic, she gruesomely tortured men she kept in cages: We are shown a man whose face is all but peeled off, another whose mouth has been sewed around human feces, and another who’s been made into a minotaur, her favorite creature from Greek mythos. After a very intense opener the opening credits roll and we are showing creepy pictures of the KKK to early music. Once back to the story one of our main students, Zoe Benson (Taissa Farmiga) is sneaking around to have her first sexual experience, which goes horribly wrong as the blood vessels in her lover’s brain explodes. The then show her being comforted by her mother saying that they should have told her what she was, but they had hoped it skipped her. Zoe is shuttled off to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies in New Orleans, where she meets her three fellow students: the telekinetic mean girl and movie star Madison (Emma Roberts), human voodoo doll Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe), and the clairvoyant Nan who has Down syndrome (Jaime Brewer,). The young witches study under the supervision of the circumspect Cordelia Foxx (Sarah Paulson), who believes the girls should be able to blend in. She doesn’t interfere when Zoe and Madison head off to a frat party, where a video-taped gang-rape occurs of Madison. Poor Frat guys, don’t rape a witch or your party bus will get flipped. Into this charged situation swans Fiona Goode, who is the Supreme, the most powerful witch of her generation. She believes the girls need to learn to fight with their powers especially since a girl was burned for witchcraft not 50 miles outside of New Orleans. “if witches don’t fight they burn”.
So…. Okay this is not my normal. Many of you that have heard me talk on Adahy’s youtube videos and lives streams know I have a highly overactive imagination. I would compare it to an eight year old child so I’m worried its going to cause night terrors. It was engaging to say the least, The opening sequence had just my eyes peeking out from behind a blanket. Its odd that they used the Elisabeth Bathory know as one of histories human vampires as the setting for the witches. I also was really surprised that she was still alive when they dug her up at the end. This is going to be a really good series. I’m Hoping that Zoe is the new Supreme, cause I’m not really happy if her only power is to kill guys by having sex with them, though the lone survivor did get him his just deserts. I’m also looking forward to when they introduce the voodoo witches to the series that they hinted at. New Orleans is known as a haven for all the freaks of the night, and it has had a long history of witches and voodoo.
Wicked Witch Popcorn Snack Mix
I rummaged through my pantry and came up with these wicked witch components…broomsticks (pretzel sticks), noses (candy corn), fingernails (chocolate-covered sunflower seeds), warts (green sixlets), and of course, wicked witch hats (original Bugles and black candy melts). I added some melted purple candy melts to popcorn to bring it all together, and there you have it!
1. Make stovetop popcorn: I used a 4 quart pan, covered the bottom of pan with vegetable oil (about 2 tablespoons) and then filled the bottom of the pan with a layer of popcorn. Cook over medium heat, moving pan back and forth (so as not to burn it) over burner, until all popcorn is popped.
Of course you may use microwave popcorn if you prefer.
2. Line two baking sheets with wax paper. Spread popped popcorn onto the two sheets.
3. Melt a bag of purple candy melts (I used Wilton) and drizzle over the popcorn. Mix well.
4. Add all the other add-ins, and mix.
Witch Hats
1. Line up about 3 dozen original Bugle snacks on wax paper.
2. Melt a package of black candy melts in a deep bowl.
3. Using a fork, dip each bugle in the black melted candy. Gently tap off excess and stand up on wax paper to dry.
4. When they are completely dry, make the hat rims:
5. Place some black melted candy in a decorating bag or a plastic squirt bottle.
6. On a piece of wax paper, make black round circles about the size of a quarter. While still wet, place the dry, top part of the hat onto the middle of the wet, black disc. Let them dry completely.
