Happy Hump day!!! I hope everyone is having a great Wednesday, since we all go back to work tomorrow. With today being in to the second episode of the season for our three shows we are seeing the actors find their characters a little more and some really good plot lines forming.
We start our night off with the CW’s Arrow. In this episode the devastated Glades are not receiving the life saving medication and hospital supplies from FEMA. A FEMA truck carrying medical supplies is intercepted by a couple of thugs on crotch rockets, Roy, intervenes in an effort to save the truck from being taken, but in turn flips his Mustang. We see that China White, muscle for the Chinese Triad in Starling City, is heading the operation. The police arrest Roy. as a suspect in the hijacking, and its Laurel in the interrogation room . Laura seems to not really care about the hijacking, she wants to know who The Hood is, she believe Roy know since he has been“ playing Hood Jr.”
When the Queens go to bail Roy out, Oliver gives him a speech about how it feels to want to fix the world all by yourself, and how it is really dangerous he could end up in the hospital or worse. Roy seems unaffected and tells Oliver that Glades Memorial Hospital is running out of medicine, so being in the hospital is like a death sentence anyway. Oliver and Digg go visit Glades Hospital, they see the situation is getting desperate with the supplies drying up. Out frontier the media has gathered for a press conference being given by local alderman Alderman Blood, claiming that the city does not care about The Glades. Alderman blames the Queen family for all the sorrow of the area and the crowd agrees with it as they throw things at his limo.
Back at the office we get a cute scene with Felicity is angry at Oliver promoting her to be his executive assistant. She wants to keep her job in IT. Oliver says he needs her closer so they can do research on ways to fight crime in the city. She’s not happy. Felicity finds out that large shipment of medical supplies are on their way to the Glades and Arrow goes to protect the shipment. While he is taking out a couple of the bad guys China White joins the fight, but she is not alone a man with metal claws jumps out . He is eager to fight Arrow and seems upset that Arrow is not trying to kill anyone any more.
This character is known to DC comic book fans as Bronze Tiger (played by Michael Jai White), and is martial arts expert and is equipped a pair of metallic claws. While the fighting is going on, China White drive off in the hijacked FEMA van. Soon, the police arrive, forcing both Arrow and the Tiger to flee, In the flurry of gunfire though a bullet hits Arrow in the Ankle. Back at the Club we have two scenes going on upstairs Thea is sick of Roy going off to play “Hood Jr” at night. She gives him an ultimatum: pick a life with her or continue to act like a vigilante. Below in the the hideout Oliver finds out that Digg had broken up with his girlfriend while Oliver was back on the island. Digg tells him that he too was having a hard time being two different people, he is still focused on Deadshot, and he couldn’t love her and hate the man that killed his brother . This little scene is a reminder to the audience that Deadshot is still a factor. This most likely is an allude to an upcoming re-emergence of Deadshot. Oliver in his CEO position invites Alderman Blood to his office where Blood gives him a speech about being elitist. Oliver offers to hold a big fundraiser to help the Glades. Blood agrees that would make a difference and shakes Oliver’s hand. When the Glades benefit is going on Blood and Laurel chat a bit and are wondering where Oliver is. He cannot be there because he knows a FEMA shipment is on the way and he needs to protect it as Arrow. Blood tells all the press at the benefit that Oliver’s absence is proof that he just does not care about the Glades. Arrow and Diggle are following the shipment to catch China red handed when they try to hijack this truck as well. there is a short battle between between Tiger and Queen before he shoots Tiger in the shoulder and uses a built in taser. Meanwhile Diggle had taken the truck father along the but as the truck pulls away, China White jumps on the back of it. She begins to fight With Diggle, but arrow rushes to the scene and pins her to a phone pole with a Bola style arrow. He and Digg leave her for the cops to pick her up. She tries to taunt Arrow about still being the target of the police and says he will never be a hero. He replies that it does not matter, so long as the city is safe. Arrow goes to visit Roy, he tells him that he is not trained to fight bad guys but Arrow does need intel. He asks Roy to be his eyes and ears in the Glades. It is the start of them working together and, if DC comicbook storylines are to be believed, will eventually lead to Roy becoming The Red Arrow.
Roy goes back to Thea and tells her he has chosen life with her. He says he is done trying to be a hero.
Arrow goes to visit Laurel one more time. He wants her to believe he is helping the city. She says she knew he would come back and she presses a button summoning dozens of armed police. Arrow is surrounded in seconds.
So with this episode, I felt like I had to take a Spiderman 3 feeling towards it. If you don’t think about it too much it was a good episode. I had a few issues with the believability of it after sitting back and reviewing the episode. My first issue with this episode is if FEMA’s trucks were being hit, after the first or at least after the second, the National Guard would have been called in to escort the shipments. I’m pretty sure China White and Bronze Tiger could have handled them but it should have been a bigger fire fight. My other issue was the complete lack of concern expressed by the Police. They could care less that there was at least 10+ federal employees were killed. Truly that would have hit the all the national news programs and we never once saw even a newspaper with a headline on it acknowledging their deaths.
My other big issue with the episode where the fight scenes, they were dark and you had a lot of trouble seeing the fight. Good choreographing can be killed if its not properly lite and it really was a turn off in this episode
American Horror story: Coven – Boy Parts
They held no bars with this episode either. We start the episode with two gator hunters in the bayou. As the pull up to hang their recent catch with the other gators they have to skin the see Misty Day walking through the gaters. She resurrect the gators and the proceed to rip the hunters apart to Stevie Nicks.
At the academy the girls are getting their introduction of how they came to the school . We get Queenie’s back story that she was working in a fast food restaurant when a glutinous customer made her mad so she stuck her hand in boiling oil causing the man’s skin to fry. I don’t know about you but if I was in her position I would have done that or worse. Queenie explains to the others that she’s a relative of a slave who was a witch in Salem, apparently one of the first to be accused of dark magic. The morning gathering is interrupted by the police investigating the accident they came to see why Zoe had been to the hospital to visit with one of the kids mins before he too passed. They bring up Zoe’s previous boyfriend and how he had died the same way, which leads her to a breakdown confessing everything that had happened. Fiona becomes enraged sending the girls to their rooms before she boils the cop’s brains unless they drink water that she had enchanted. She chastise Zoe and Madison for being too sloppy afterward, and convincingly assures them that the only thing they have to be afraid of in this world is her.
Remember Madame LaLaurie, the Slave owner from the pre civil war era? Well Fiona has he stored away in her room trying to find out how she still looks the way she did when the voodoo queen put her in the unmarked grave a 180 years ago. We also learn that they did more than just bury her alive but also lynched her family right in front of their home. Madame LaLaurie is upset about the girls but could care less for her husband she was working on killing him herself. Hearing about this “gift” of immortality, Fiona ventures out to find Laveau and get that potion.
Madison decides to pay Zoe back for how she killed her rapist in the hospital by performing a resurrection spell at the morgue where Kyle’s body is kept.
The two witches find the frat boys in pieces, which disturbs Zoe. But Madison explains they can take the best boy parts from all of the victims and create the perfect boyfriend. In a Frankenstein-esque scene with horrible camera shakes , the girls hurriedly stitch Kyle’s parts back together and follow a recipe on parchment paper. It looks like they have failed, as the Kyle doesn’t come back to life. The girls go to head out but Zoe hangs back to say she’s sorry and to kiss Kyle. About this time the mortician comes back and catches Zoe in the morgue, scared she bashes him with a bowl, about that time Kyle wakes up in a zombie state and take him out further. Zoe leads Kyle to the car, and she explains to him while speeding down the freeway that he was once dead and that she’s brought him back to life. From the back seat Misty pops up and tells zoe to turn around, she takes them to her home where she creates a salve from the swamp that will heal Kyles wounds and promises Zoe when she returns that he will be okay and waiting on her.
I really like the episode other than every time they did magic the camera shaking got to me and made me sick enough that I had to look away. So Motion sickness and spells do not mixed. The sex scene also creeped me out, so many snakes. Though from the pagan community the symbolism was spot on with the eggs and the snakes. Madame LaLaurie, reminds me of Silas from Vampire Diaries, all she wants to do now is pass on and be with her family, which currently she can’t.
The Tomorrow People: In Too Deep
With the tomorrow people we are seeing Stephen’s still getting used to his new found powers. The first bit of the show included a voice over summary of the premier in case you missed it, convenient. He now has a after school job working with his uncle at Ultra, an organization that is hunting and exterminating the Tomorrow People. Here his is training to use his powers and are allowing him to access memories that he had buried. Also because he is out all night his mother and school friends are getting worried about him. Also his fellow Tomorrow people are worried that he is selling them out whether it consciously or not. A new superior emerges named kurt, we meet up with him robbing a bank using the Three T’s. Both sides are trying to find the kid, one to save him and recruit him. the other to exterminate him. Stephen and and the Ultra agent visit Kurt’s mom, and Stephen mentally detects Kurk in a crawl space above the bedroom,. After the other dude tasers Kurt’s mom, a gun squad heads in and starts blasting into the ceiling! Stephen storms into his Uncle’s office and they have the standard argument about how The Tomorrow People are inhuman threats/they’re just kids bickering. Stephen goes to find Kurk but is followed by ultra and a odd teleporting chase ensues. Kurt gets away but is subdued by Kara, Victory for the tomorrow people. Back at Ultra, Stephen is scolded for his insolence, and the uncle takes away the psy-blocking watch. Now Stephen’s going in for debriefing with no way to block the high-powered telepath from seeing all his betrayals. He telepaths at Kara for help, and she advises him to block the debriefers probing with strong thoughts. She psychically asks him the same question a bunch of times, and he just thinks about his dad leaving.
So this series is kinda getting old to me, Its like watching X-men without all of our beloved characters. The Dad really seems like professor Xavier. And the fact that here is this mutation and everyone see them as freak that need to be exterminated.
