Popcorn and Prime Time: Wet Fang Dream
Sorry about the late article on thursday night shows, I was at the WV Pumpkin Festival and didn’t get to watch the shows on time. This was the premiere night that I have been looking forwarded to all summer!! It and Mountaineer football is why I turned my cable back on this year. We had two premieres tonight on the CW, The Vampire Diaries Season 5 and its spin off The Originals. If sexy vampires and werewolfs are your thing this night was for you.
Vampire Diaries: I know what you did last summer
With episode one of season five we pick up with Mystic Falls 3 months after Elena chose Damon and as promised we got to see them having a steamy summer packed with for once peace and quiet. Jeremy is back from the dead, thanks to Bonnie’s sacrifice, for a third time and is having a hard time fitting into high school after everyone had attended a memorial for him midway through last season. He gets into a fight and shows that he still has superhuman strength signaling that he is still a hunter even though he doesn’t have the hunters mark tattoo. Through out the episode we are also shown that Stefan is still Drowning locked in the safe at the bottom of the quarry. We are shown that he is hallucinating that Damon and him are talking in a brightly lit living room, to turn off his humanity and not feel the pain of dying over and over again. When he wants to give up Elena’s image tells him to hold on, that his humanity is what makes him who he is. With summer over and high school behind us Elena and Caroline move into their dorm with a new room mate that is a drinking vervain. At a house party their first night the roommate calls and asked for help but since Elena and Caroline can’t get in because they have not been invited they are powerless to help as their roommate is shoved from an upstairs window with a vampire bite on her neck. While the girls are away Katherine comes home to the boarding house asking For Damon’s help. She is afraid that one of the many enemies she’s made over her 500 years may try to kill her, and in walks Silas. Silas has been spending his summer building up power before he unleashes it on the town. He is also strangely interested in the newly human Katherine.
So this show is my guilty pleasure, and I love it. I was happy to See Damon played by Ian Somerhalder, in the tender loving parent figure towards Jeremy (Steven McQueen) after the car wreck. I felt bad that Tyler (Michael Trevino) is letting Caroline (Candice Accola) down but I’m hoping this wolf pack he is working brings in some danger to the mix. Matt was also briefly in this episode mostly him saying goodbye to Rebekah as she Moves over to the Originals. Rumors are that Matt played by Zach Roerig will have a bigger roll and a stronger character in this season. I’ am very hopeful for that. Another standout was Paul Wesley, He plays two Characters in the show Stefan and Silas. With Silas we are getting to see the villain and murderer that Paul is able to play, that is really lacking when it comes to him playing the good boy Stefan, cept for the Ripper days.
The Originals: Always and Forever
Like Rebekah in the premiere of Vampire Diaries our family of mayhem, said good bye as they received their own show this year. The Mikaelson, are the original vampire family from which all vampires comes according to the previous seasons of Vampire diaries. These are the Anti heros, originally introduced as the main villain in season two and the lesser of evils in season three and four, they became the villains that we loved more than we hated. The Originals, follows the family to New Orleans where the witches are conspiring to blackmail Klaus, the werewolf vampire hybrid, into helping them overthrow Marcel, Klaus’s prodege. Klaus departed from the city after being chased down by his father Mikael, while it was being constructed. As Klaus has returned after many years, his ego has provoked him to become the king of the city. “Every King needs an heir” says Klaus, accepting the unborn child. The child is a first to be born to a hybrid (part vampire, part werewolf) and a werewolf (Hayley).
This episode is kinda Pilot number two, It is a retelling of the back door pilot that was an episode of vampire diaries. The original pilot was told from Klaus’s point of view and this one was told from Elijah, his brother, point of view. We got to see a little more of what the witches are willing to do to force Klaus’s hand including linking Hayley life to Sofie’s. They also show us the witch that is working with Marcel that helps keep the witches under control. One surprise they show that the graveyards in new orleans are considered holy sites for witches that vampires have to be invited into. As a fangirl of Klaus this was kinda boring episode for me but thats cause i’ve watched the back door pilot close to 15 times. It will premiere this week in its regular time slot opposite to Marvel’s S.H.E.I.L.D at 8 pm on the CW
So tonight’s popcorn is not a recipe but a website to visit and order popcorn from. Sweet Street Popcorn (www.sspopcorn.com), is a local popcorn shop that we visited at the pumpkin festival. Here we purchased our popcorn for the night, Napalm flavor. This popcorn was a sweet spicy flavor upfront that packed heat a few seconds after the initial bite. Adahy loved it. The popcorn shop offered me a chance here in a few weeks to come behind the scenes to see how they make it and get an in depth view at their business.
