The best thing I read last week was the spectacular new comic series The Victories by Michael Avon Oeming of Powers, Mice Templar and Guardians of the Galaxy fame. When I started reading about this beautiful cast of characters in 2012 I was actually very sad. I was upset when 3 issues in I realized how good this book was, and I sadly that it was a mini-series. Lucky for all of us comic fans, The Victories have returned! After the mini-series Dark Horse Presents ran a great Victories story over 3 issues from #20-22 and has continued on in an ongoing series presented by Dark Horse that has continued to present the very unique world of The Victories to us the thankful comic readers.
If you haven’t heard of Michael Avon Oeming than the odds are that you aren’t a comic fan. If you somehow are a comic fan that has never heard that name I want you to do something right now. Open a new tab on your browser, Google the name “Oeming” then look at the images, now tell me “thanks”. When you are done with all of that, go buy some of this guys books, you will not be disappointed.

Today however I’m talking specifically about The Victories. As far as I can tell this series is based around the idea of Oeming creating a fully realized superhero world with no filters full of crazy! Oeming has produced a fair amount of powerful artwork along with other creators but with The Victories we are presented with an all Oeming world. With Oeming doing all the writing and handling all the art chores along with the talented Nick Filardi handling the colors we get an Oeming world that basically is burning up the track with no one having a foot on the break. The level of craziness in this world is stunning. And I mean that literally, on the cover of the new issue, #4, there is this; “A LUNATIC DIES! [And in this book that could be anyone!]”. Bonus points all around for this. True to cover text a lunatic does actually die in this issue, no spoilers here but it made me very upset, and the book is still full of lunatics!
This is not an all ages book at all, it’s full of adult themes and violent art work as well as some nudity. Anyone over the age of say 12- 13 though should go out and get the first trade after which I’m fairly sure you will be adding this spectacular title to your monthly pull list.
