The latest game console on the market is the Wii U by Nintendo. There have many criticisms of the system since it launched. One of the biggest criticisms was that the Wii U has a massive system update required right out of the box.
This update clocks in at a little over 1 GB, so needless to say it can take awhile to download and then install on your brand new Wii U. Not only that, but if the power gets interrupted during the update process there is a chance you could brick your brand new console. So the advice I would give you is to plug in the Wii U, start the system update, and then leave the console alone.
Nintendo has some advice for parents giving the Wii U as a gift. They took to Twitter (@NintendoAmerica) with the following guidance.
Giving #WiiU as a gift? Pro-tip: Perform system updates before wrapping so it’s good to go as soon as it’s opened!

Pretty smart advice for all of you parents out there. Having to wait for the system to update will seem like its taking forever for most kids. And during that wait I’m sure the parents will be hearing about it. Take the time to update your Wii U before Christmas Day. You’ll thank yourself in the end!
