Jim Lee’s WildC.A.T.S. with Jeffrey Brown (The Valkyrie Quartet)

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Alien races fighting an ancient war. Characters that aren’t exactly like the rest of Earth’s population. Jim Lee art. A 90s Saturday morning cartoon. I’m thinking this sounds pretty familiar…..

Listen in as Jeffrey Brown, writer of The Valkyrie Quartet, comes to talk Jim Lee’s WildC.A.T.S. and how despite the familiarity of it, this is a franchise that you really need to check out for it’s own awesomeness.

Learn such things as:

  • Are we sure this isn’t X-Men?
  • How much did the cartoon soften up the comics?
  • In turn, how much did the game soften up the cartoon?
  • And much more!

Batman and Robin with Billy (CommanderCast)

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

<img src=”https://i1.wp.com/playcomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Batman-and-Robin.png?resize=300%2C300&ssl=1” alt=”” />

Batman and Robin is the last of the 1990s Batman movies, and maybe for good reason. The movie was not all too well received. It didn’t really fit the tone of the preview two 90s Batman movies. And yet it still had a game come out for it. A year after the movie, but it still happened.

Listen in as Chris and guest Billy from CommanderCast admit that this is their favorite of the 90s Batman movies and take a look at the tie in game that came with it.

Learn such things as:

  • How in the world can this be anyone’s favorite of the old Batman movies?
  • What classic game should have been forgotten about instead of replicated when making the game?
  • Is it even possible to have too many puns?
  • And much more!

Ex-Mutants with Karrington Martin (Real Dudes Podcast)

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

In the far far future of 2055 the world has somehow survived World War III. Except with all of the nuclear explosions and toxins in the environment and stuff like that the world’s population has all turned into mutants. Let’s ignore that the science doesn’t work there at all. But one scientist found a way to turn mutants back into humans! And yes, we’re ignoring that science there as well.

Listen in as Karrington Martin from Real Dudes Podcast comes on to talk about this little known comic (at least to everyone I talked to) that someone has a game that is pretty well known game, at least in the Retro Gaming circles.

Learn such things as:

  • Who picked this comic to get a game anyway?
  • Why are there different sets of characters?
  • What esoteric thing did Chris get hung up on with the game?
  • And much more!

Also have a look at the Wikipedia list of games based on comics. I haven’t added this game to the list on purpose, but I might go back and do it later.

April Fool’s Bonus:Alien 3 with Keith Gawla (Pop Up Film Cast)

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

A lot of you (and by that I mean at least 1 person) has asked if I’d ever look at the Alien franchise. This is as close as I’ll get since the movie clearly came first and didn’t get made with the comic in mind. But you asked for it, and there are comics. So why not?

Keith Gawla from Pop Up Film Cast (@PopUpFilmCast on Twitter) comes by to continue ridiculing me for my horrible appearance on his show.

Learn such things as:

  • How old do Chris and Keith think each other are?
  • Did Chris actually watch this movie?
  • Is this the one time where the Game Gear version is playable?
  • And so much more!

A big thanks to Derek from Rolling Misadventures and Charles from Talk N Roll for playing along with promos to their old shows. Be sure to check out their new stuff.

Spider-Man Web Of Fire With Chris And Christi Eddleman (Chrises On Infinite Earths)

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

We just can’t get away from Spider-Man at all. Even when there’s no comic story to match it up with, when there are a host of C List villains, the guy is persistent I’ll give him that.

Listen in as Chris and Christi from Chrises on Infinite Earths come to talk about the entire Sega 32X library of comic based games. Yup, this is the one that we got.

Learn such things as:

  • Why do some people say this isn’t the only comic based 32X game?
  • Who are these villains anyway?
  • What is our theory for why this game looks so unfinished?
  • And much more!

Bonus: Composition with Matthew Hocker

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Do you like games? I’d hope so because that’s what half of this show is about. But if you’re into real world games as well then have I got something for you! Introducing Composition, a card game from Matthew Hocker from Coo Games (on Twitter @CooGamesMatt or Facebook as Coo Games Official) where you take control of a maestro and draft letter cards to form words to earn roses and earn victory points or get super powerful cards to set yourself up for victory later.

Check out the Composition Kickstarter if this sounds like something you’d be interested in and share it with any of your friends that you think will enjoy it and help make this game a reality. Also check out character artist Olivia Raum on Twitter.

Judge Dredd with Drew Hallum (Reel Feels)

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

In the “fictional” future a single person gets to be judge, jury, and executioner. Well, a bunch of single people but you get the idea. This is the world of instant justice. This is the faaaaar far future of 2080.

Drew Hallum from Reel Feels and CritStorm Cast comes by the show to take a look at the 1995 Sylvester Stallone classic Judge Dredd. Just make sure you follow the law while you’re doing it so you don’t get judged!

Learn such things as:

  • Was the movie really as bad as Chris was expecting?
  • What surprising action can you actually take in the game?
  • What does the philosophy of this distopian say about our future as a species?
  • And much more! Maybe not so much that last one though.

Chakan the Forever Man with Ed Annunziata (Playchemy)

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Imagine if you thought so much of yourself that you truly believed that you could take on Death itself, and that you’re right. Do you really think that Death would let you win, even if you won?

Ed Annunziata from Playchemy (and conveniently a developer on this game) comes by the show to talk Chakan the Forever Man, and how his story makes that from The Devil Went Down to Georgia look like a tale from Muppet Babies.

Learn such things as:

  • How did Ed decide that this comic needed to be a game?
  • What really interesting mechanic in the game really fits the character pretty much perfectly?
  • How many copies of this do Ed and Chris own between the two of them?
  • And much more!

Garfield Caught in the Act with Jessie Cooper (Alphabet Flight)

But what happens when he and Odie accidentally create a robot monster? Listen in as Jessie Cooper from the Alphabet Flight and Creepy Critters podcasts comes to talk about this lasagna eating and marketing juggernaut.

Learn such things as:

  • Why does everyone love Garfield so much?
  • No, really, why? He just won’t go away!

Todd McFarlen’s Spawn with BJ Mendelson

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Even without reading comics growing up, my friends and I always knew about Spawn. Or at least that he existed. Not that we really knew anything about him. But come on, look at the guy! How can he not be cool?

Listen in as author and comic writer BJ Mendelson comes to talk not only Spawn as a character but also the fascinating real life origin story of the comic and how this is possibly the most 90s thing that ever 90s-ed.

Learn such things as:

  • The fascinating real life origin of Spawn (did I say that up there? Who cares, it’s worth it)
  • What aspect of this game actually makes more sense in the game than in the comic?
  • How much of a hand do we think Todd McFarlene had with this one?
  • And much more!
