NAKI:
Hi, I’m Naki. I am one of the hosts of All Things Good and Nerdy, which airs live every Sunday at 10 A.M. central time. I was introduced to podcasting from The Nerdist, which I started listening to while commuting into the city for more than a few years ago. Now, I listen to a bit more variety, which includes the 17 network podcasts that is on GonnaGeek, as well as Welcome to Night Vale and Radio Lab. Currently you’ll notice that I have become quite the Audio Technica snob thanks to Stargate Pioneer, so I have an ATR2100 microphone and ATH M50X headphones. Thanks for checking out my profile, and I’ll see you at C2E2!

What shows are you on? All Things Good and Nerdy
What was your introduction to podcasting? I started listening to The Nerdist while at work one day, and started using it as my commuting noise if I didn’t feel like singing along to anything in the car.
What gear are you rockin? I’ve become an Audio Technica snob thanks to some advice from Stargate Pioneer, so I have an ATR2100 microphone and ATH M50X headphones. I have a little Logitech webcam that will be upgraded eventually!
What podcasts would you recommend? Besides all 17 of the GonnaGeek podcasts available? I’m an avid listener of Welcome to Night Vale and Radio Lab.
Stargate Pioneer
Hello! I’m Stargate Pioneer and my friends call me SP. I produce and cohost five fun podcasts on the GonnaGeek network: Better Podcasting (a how-to podcast for the Hobby Podcaster), The Starling Tribune (a fan podcast on the CW television show Arrow found on www.geeks.live at 9 PM Eastern on Thursday nights), Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (a fan podcast originally on the ABC television show Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. but now it covers the general Marvel comic universe and you can find out at 9 PM Eastern Time on www.geeks.live each week), the official GonnaGeek.com podcast which is streamed every Monday at 8:45 PM Eastern time, and Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Longbox Edition (a Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off podcast that covers the weekly rundown of Marvel released comic books). I started listening to podcasts in early 2007 and haven’t spent a week without them since. Most of my podcast listening centers around science fiction fan podcasts or podcasts ABOUT podcasting — yes, very meta since I even cohost a podcast about podcasting myself. I started out small in the fall of 2013 and have been investing in my podcasting gear ever since. While upgraded equipment has helped the technical side of producing podcasts, I’m a big advocate of creating entertaining, informative or captivating content that is valuable to the listener. I’m excited for the 2016 GonnaGeek C2E2 panel because it means I get to hang out with friends that I do not get to see often. But most of all I’m looking forward to meeting you so make sure you come find me and introduce yourself! It’s going to be a fun time this year at C2E2!

What shows are you on? Better Podcasting, Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D., GonnaGeek, Starling Tribune, Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Longbox Edition
What was your introduction to podcasting? I guest-hosted on a very successful and long running SciFi podcast on New Years’ Day 2011. It was love at first mic and Ido not think I’ve looked back since.
What gear are you rockin? I’m a self-admitted gear collector but still only consider myself at the high-end of the introductory hobby podcaster, adding and upgrading gear as I can. My home “studio” contains an ElectroVoice re320 large diaphragm dynamic cardioid microphone aided by a DBX 286s digital processes. My sound is mixed through a Mackie ProFX16v2 USB mixer and I multitrack to a Zoom H6 portable digital audio recorder. I also use a Behringer 2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor/Gate to help with clean the noise out of my soundboard and incoming remote cohosts through Skype, Blab or YouTube Live. I use a combination of multiple Logitech c920 and Pro 9000 webcams. I use either Audio Technica ATH-m40x or Sony MDR-7506 monitoring headphones to isolate sound and monitor live recordings and edit using a pair of M-Audio AV-40 studio monitor speakers. My mobile gear includes an Audio Technica AT2005 dynamic Cardioid USB/XLR microphone and a Zoom H5 portable digital recorder, which is exactly the same gear I would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade or start out.
What podcasts would you recommend? Outside of the 17 amazing GonnaGeek podcasts on the network I listen to Mission Log: A Roddenberry Star Trek Podcast, Star Wars Minute, and APM: A Prairie Home Companion’s New From Lake Wobegon.
Beef
Hi I’m Beef, Co-host of Legends podcast. I’ve listened to podcasts for the better part of 10 years. From entertainment to short story to conspiracy, I’ve checked them out. After I met the greater community and the people in it; an opportunity to join a cast early arose, and I took it. I wouldn’t change any of it. Saying random and strange things while occasionally getting out a coherent thought is priceless. Come check us out at C2E2, we would love to see you!

What shows are you on? Legends Podcast, (Plus many random GonnaGeek network guest spots), WholesomeAddiction
What was your introduction to podcasting? I found a few podcasts when Lost and BSG were on the air that resonated with me. After that I met the community, many of whom have become the podcasters I know today, and I’ve never looked back! From guest spots to permanent Co-Host of Legends and WA; in the past 5ish years, I can easily say some of my best nights were spent behind a microphone!
What gear are you rock in? I’m a simple man when it comes to gear. I usually rock a Behringer ultravoice xm1800s ( or a Sennheiser e835) for Mic, a Behringer Xenyx Q802USB mixer, any old headphones(SP would love me to use my Sennheiser pair), and basic M-Audio AV-40 studio monitors.. I’m a firm believer that gear isn’t the end all be all of a cast. It’s as important to have a crew that has rapport, shows up weekly, and is able to make changes or adjust together on the fly.. If that be scheduling issues, topic/ guess change problems, or any other number of things that can arise from doing a live or even recorded show.
What podcasts would you recommend? When I have time to listens to casts, I mainly listen to the podcasts on GonnaGeek. That way if(when) I start yelling at my mp3 player, I know I can email most of the hosts and let them know why they are wrong and I’m right. Maybe even get a response!
Cody Gough
I’m Cody Gough, host of Game/Life Balance U.S. I’ve been broadcasting since college, where I hosted multiple shows as program director of my school’s radio station while working on my degree in radio and television production. I don’t work in broadcasting full-time, but I joined WGN Radio as a part-time producer shortly after graduating college, and I’ve been working there for 8 years this year. My friend Jon was a big fan of video game podcasts in 2012 and really wanted to host one, so I hooked him up and we launched a show called Unqualified Gamers, which we hosted for 4 years. As we “grew up” and found ourselves with far less time to play video games, we decided to re-brand ourselves as a lifestyle podcast, so we got in touch with a couple guys in Australia to partner up and re-brand ourselves as the American edition of their podcast, Game/Life Balance. Currently, we’re syndicated on the GonnaGeek Network and on WGN Plus, the official podcast network of WGN Radio, and in addition to our regular podcasts, I occasionally produce videos for our YouTube page and participate in any opportunities for collaboration that I see coming my way. Come find me at C2E2!

What was your introduction to podcasting? My friend Jon told me that he always wanted to do a video game podcast, and my roommate at the time had just bought a USB microphone that he’d let me use, so I said hey, why don’t we give it a shot?
What gear are you rockin? Audio-Technica ATR2500-USB Cardioid Condenser USB Microphone with an AGPtek® 6 inch Flexible Clamp On Microphone Pop Filter mounted on a RODE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm, plus a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. Nothing fancy, really.
What podcasts would you recommend? Game/Life Balance Australia and Retronauts are legitimately great video game podcasts. I’m also a fan of “You’ve Binge Challenged” on WGN Plus and The Steve Austin Show and The Ross Report on PodcastOne.
