Usually I don’t spend much time thinking about online petitions but when I heard of this one I had to comment. Jesse Seitz of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada has created a petition to create a full size Wolverine statue in City Hall. The petition points out that Wolverine’s history is that he was born in Alberta (which Edmonton is the capital of).
Personally I know many people who have no idea Wolverine is Canadian so I think this is a fantastic idea. Go Canada!

Not many popular or exciting fictional characters are born Canadian but superhero and adventurer Wolverine isn’t just Canadian, he’s an Albertan too. I think it would make a lot of people really proud to live in Edmonton and raise morale to erect a life size statue of this character in City Hall, or even perhaps Churchill Square or the Alberta Legislature Grounds. It would also become an interesting tourist attraction for comic book fans visiting our city.

The reason I petitioned the city to build a Wolverine statue over a year ago was originally a satirical protest of the downtown arena funding deal. I took all of the arguments in favour of the arena, applied them to a 1000′ tall Wolverine statue and put it into a petition for a statue of Hugh Jackman approximately 3 times larger than any existing building in the city. The petition was widely shared by local media and even made news across the US, as well as in Brazil and Japan.
Since then, I have been in touch with the Mayor’s office and the Edmonton Arts Council about a 10-15′ statue to be placed somewhere near the Stollery Children’s Hospital and have been working on a plan to have the statue created and displayed.
