Recently I received an update on my Nexus 5 for my beloved Chrome browser and there were two features implemented that instantly had me excited. The first may not be super exciting but still is great nonetheless – it’s the ability to undo a tab after closing it. I often find my Chrome Window full of open tabs and from time to time I do a mass-purge; however, in my hasty efforts to clean up I frequently close one that I didn’t mean to. Now that Google has implemented this Undo feature it’s a matter of hitting a button to open the tab back up – a great addition.
The second feature is much more interesting, which is “support for casting some videos with Chromecast”. What videos are supported? To be honest I’m not sure but I will say more often than not since I’ve received this update I’ve seen the Chromecast Icon in the top left corner of my videos. For example I often find myself clicking on links that Conan O’Brien and his team post on social media but the issue is that they don’t host the videos on YouTube. There have been many times that I’ve wanted to send the videos to Chromecast but because of this I haven’t been able to. Today I opened one of his videos and was pleased to see the icon….
The video was sent to my Chromecast as fast as any YouTube video I’ve sent and the control response was equally speedy. This is a step in the right direction as in my opinion Google’s Chromecast is one of the best devices available for the price but one of its biggest downfalls has been the lack of native software integration. I’m hoping that this Chromecast support update is the first of many so that soon we’ll be able to even Tab Cast from our mobile devices – just like is possible from a desktop.
Good work Google, you continue to make me a happy techy.
