H.R. Giger, the Swiss artist who designed the creatures for Ridley Scott’s ALIEN, is dead at 74. According to Sandra Mivelaz, the administrator of the H.R. Giger museum in Gruyeres, Switzerland, the artist died from injuries he suffered during a fall.
Often at odds with HOLLYWOOD, and always controversial with his often sex and death infused themes, the artist who famously mixed organic and technological components to create nightmarish bio-mechanic creatures did design work for such genre classics as SPECIES, POLTERGEIST II, DUNE, and ALIEN.
