So, I attended Megacon in Orlando, Florida this weekend for the 2nd year in a row and got the opportunity to rock my brand new GonnaGeek t-shirt and even snap a few pics with some actors and one legend. While I wasn’t technically there in any official capacity, I worked it out with our fearless leader to get a shirt printed. Plenty of people asked me about it and I caught even more eyeballing it. I also stood in several never ending, infinite lines until my feet wanted to bust out of my shoes like the Hulk so plenty of others saw the design on the back for WTWD also. Stan Lee himself actually stared at the logo on the front while I stood in line for his autograph. I even caught him looking at it as I walked up to him. Then he recognized it during the photo op about an hour later. He said, “Hey, I remember you.” Awesome! I geeked out!
The Man, Stan Lee! And some other guy.
This con was ridiculous as far as attendance. Friday is usually the most lax day as far as the crowd goes but this year it was packed to the rafters. I haven’t found any official numbers but I heard from personnel that Saturday saw 88,000 people come thru the Orange County Convention Center despite an expected 70,000. That number is also up from 60,000 last year. It was elbow to elbow Saturday.
There were several cosplayers in wheelchairs. I thought this one was awesome. I missed the chance to snap a pic with the guy in the Game of Thrones wheelchair tho. That one was sick.
Stan “The Man” Lee was the Guest of Honor while The Walking Dead cast filled up the Photo Ops lines. Comic creators were also in attendance with heavy hitters such as David Finch, Adam Kubert, and the one I couldn’t locate that I wanted the most, J.Scott Campbell. I purchased the Stan Lee autograph and they had beautiful prints of some of the icon’s most beloved characters drawn by Campbell. That print would have been amazing with both superstars’ John Hancocks on them.
Adam Kubert signing my copy of Origins II #1! So cool!
I also got word too late that our very own Sebastian Piccione was in attendance. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to visit his booth. Maybe next time.
Superstar artist Brandon Peterson signing. I got several artist signatures but I only managed to get two on camera. Skottie Young, Jim Cheung, Amanda Conner, and Billy Tucci to name a few. I think David Finch’s line was the longest. It was wrapped around to other tables consistently all three days, for the whole entire day!
Me and the wife with Danai Gurira aka Michonne!
Us with Manu Bennet aka Slade Wilson from Arrow!
My wife’s prized possession.
And last but not least, my baby girl’s very own pair of YaYa Han’s kitty cat cosplay ears. (That she stole from my wife.)
If you get a chance to attend, jump on it. Pure geek bliss for 3 days straight!
Gee, thanks for swinging by my booth. :(
Also, If you’re gonna go geek at Megacon next year, lemme know. I can help you get a press pass.
I couldnt find you man LoL even if i did, the sea of bodies would have carried me away. I’ll probably go again next year with the shirt. We’re debating going to DragonCon in Atlanta
You should DEFINITELY do DragonCon. Everyone I know has a blast.
And, yeah. Next year, you can use my booth as a drop off point (I’ll babysit your bags o’ swag).
