As I’ve said on both this web-site and the All Things Good And Nerdy Podcast I’m not much of a fan of the current Superior Spider-Man books. I’m not going to dig into my issues if you want more background just check out one of those subjects. But, imagine my surprise when I heard the news that there would be a new Peter Parker book launching in the future.
David Morrell, perhaps best known as the creator of Rambo, has been working on a project for Marvel. In a tweet he revealed more information on the project.
My SPIDER-MAN: FROST comic-book project comes out in October as the first 2 issues of a new comic book called PETER PARKER: SPIDER-MAN!

Morrell provided more information on the series on his Facebook page last year.
“I have good news about my SPIDER-MAN: FROST two-part comic-book project. After my CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE CHOSEN comic-book series was published in 2007, Marvel asked me to write a shorter one about SPIDER-MAN. The script was finished that year. Legendary artist Klaus Jansson illustrated the first issue but was then called away to work on various other series as artists became unavailable. I just received word that it looks as though 2013 will be the year for SPIDER-MAN: FROST if Klaus gores back to work on it as hoped in February. The project has a very realistic approach.”
A series called Peter Parker Spider-Man, what might that mean for us? Does that mean the Superior Spider-Man events are over? Probably not is my guess. I think what we will see is a story or new series that exists outside the current Marvel continuity. Like it or not, the Superior Spider-Man series has been selling incredibly well.
From another standpoint, it makes sense for Marvel to bring back Peter in some form especially as we close in on the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theaters. Viewers will connect with Peter since he is in the movie and ideally they would check out a Peter Parker: Spider-Man book. I can only think that someone whose only exposure to Peter and Spidey had been from the movies would not understand seeing Otto Octavious in the body of Peter Parker.
So what do we officially know? Not much, just that David Morrell and Klaus Jansson are teaming on a 2-issue arc that will be the first books in a new Peter Parker: Spider-Man series. Marvel will surely release information on the books as we approach the October release date. But, until then the speculation will run rampant. Feel free to leave your own guesses on this series in the comments below.
