Wednesday’s Webcomic: Worsted for Wear

Wednesday's Webcomic

I’ve been anxious to recommend Worsted for Wear since I began writing Wednesday’s Webcomic. Worsted for Wear is a bright, expressive webcomic comedy about a knitting group, their yarn, and their lives. Once Cam, a new and obsessed knitter, gets her friends started knitting and they get involved in an established knitting group; the comic follows all of these characters as they face problems everyone faces and knit through it. The comic is mostly humorous one shots and short stories. Recently, it’s expanded into more serious stories as the characters work through their biggest obstacles in life, like fitness, abandoned dreams, motherhood, and a controlling ex-boyfriend.

One of my favorite parts about the story is that the characters have so much depth. They’re all very real, flawed, and funny women (and men too!) with real body types and then the challenges that go with them. They’re geeks with many loves and passions, who have very realistic relationships. The comic has serious knitter cred, as the authors know their worsteds from their warps, and their needles from their niddy-noddies. The comic pokes fun at the often silly rivalry between  knitters and crocheters. The excellently formatted website has been expanded recently to include character pages as the cast grows. A monthly newsletter started recently that includes news, a knit-a-long, and  links to knitting patterns as the cast’s wardrobe is often inspired by patterns available to everyone. Indeed, the comic is an excellent fashion-plate for the hand-made fashion world.  The comic  also has a big and friendly fan community on ravelry, the fiber social network.

The Authors

The authors are a husband and wife team, Rachael and Joshua Anderson. Rachael is a professional comic artist and illustrator and is the fiber artist of the duo. Joshua is the main writer and long time webcomic creator. He is also the writer of Nerd Prom, a novella about an AlternaProm in a small town. They manage the site themselves, and recently started a Kickstarter to fund their first printing and their expansion, which funded in 25 hours!

Avatar ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Jeanette Diaz has been dabbling in an array of geekery all her life, but has lately been devoting her time to video games and knitting. She is also researching various methods of doing both at once; although any solution she’s come up with seems to be an abomination unto Science or a defunct Nintendo peripheral. Other than that, she enjoys reading, web-comics, and cartoons. You can connect with her on Ravelry as planethalia. Jeanette lives in Chicago with a board game addict and two cats.
