If you’re a fan of tech gadgets I’m sure that you’ve been following the news coming from the Consumer Electronics Show 2013. And if you haven’t been following the show, I’ve found some of the coolest new gadgets that I wish I could have. So join me in drooling over some awesome tech gadgets.
First up is the Pebble Watch. If it sounds familiar that might be because the Pebble originally started as a Kickstarter project. This project caught fire and became one of the most funded projects on Kickstarter at the time. If you haven’t heard about the Pebble Watch, its a watch that can sync to your iOS or Android phone using a Bluetooth connection.
The watch has 144 x 168 pixel e-ink display. Basically that means that with a single charge the watch display will last for quite a while. After all, e-ink has become the standard for the Kindle e-readers due to its low power usage. With the Pebble you can customize your watch face. Don’t like the default face, well just download a new one off of the web and presto-chango you have a brand new look.
But here’s the real fun stuff. The phone will display caller ID information and text messages on your watch via Bluetooth. There is a lot of potential for future applications for the watch. The 38 gram device is also packing an accelerometer and ambient light sensor. With an active developer community I bet you will start seeing some really cool apps for the Pebble watch.
The Pebble watch is like having a modern version of the Dick Tracy wristwatch and for $150 I’ll be honest I’m a little tempted to try it out.
I have to ask, what man cave is complete without a badass big screen TV? The correct answer here is none. Its essential to have an awesome TV in your man cave. In the past few years CES has been known as the place where TVs are debuted and this year is no different. And if you’re looking for one of the biggest and best looking TVs to be coming soon you might want to take a look at one of the new screens coming from Westinghouse. This big boy clocks in at a whopping 110 inches. Like I said, badass. And did I forget to mention that its a 4K display too with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels?
Of course, there’s a catch if you want a TV of this size and picture quality. Westinghouse is custom making these 110 inch screens but it has a whopping price of $300,000. Yes, you did read that right. This screen is probably more than many people’s lifesavings. But, you have to ask yourself if you get to be the envy of all your friends is it worth it? I would argue no, but it would sure be fun to have. If you can’t afford the giant then Westinghouse will be releasing 50, 55, and 60 inch versions of this TV that will also 4K resolution. Now, you just need to find something that supports a 4K signal since most cable and satellite providers barely handle 1080p.
Don’t forget to check in tomorrow as we go over some more of the awesome toys to come out of CES 2013.
