For years my wife and I have used the app Zenbe lists to help share everything from vacation reminders to each week’s grocery lists; however, over the last 6 months-ish Zenbe has basically been dead. We found ourselves hitting brick wall after brick wall when looking for an alternative, until I heard a tip over at the Modern Geek podcast.
One of the hosts of the show ran into the exact same issue that I encountered. Not only was he sad that Zenbe was gone, he also went through a series of apps trying to find a suitable replacement only to find miss after miss. He told the listeners about how one day he discovered that by going to iCloud.com from your desktop a user could enable sharing of the to do lists. As you can imagine I was extremely excited to here this and promptly went home and started sharing every list I could recreating everything we once had. My thoughts were that this was the most ideal situation – stock software, a big company and a smooth interface, how could it go wrong?
Today I went to create a new list and when I logged in to iCloud I discovered their latest update branched out Reminders from Calendar. This update made a ton of sense to me since the first time I logged in I was surprised to find the two combine. Of course, I clicked into Reminders and quickly saw that the share icon was now missing. Panicking I looked around searching every nook and cranny I could think of (after all, the site is sort of a poor layout anyway); however, in the end – I couldn’t find anything.
So it appears that a great feature (one that actually got me to the point of finally enabling iCloud) is now gone. Although I hope this is only temporary it has me thinking that Apple is no longer the revolutionary company they once were. It’s really a sad situation when such a powerhouse takes such an obvious step backward in their product, it’s disappointing. Either way this means that I am in the same predicament I was in months ago. I’ll have to go back to the drawing board, but if anyone has any suggestions (or if they know where a share button is hidden) they would be greatly appreciated.
