One of my biggest pet peeves I have happens every day. It comes from your friend, it comes from your boss, it comes from someone you know. You’re standing there in a store and someone says those words “I’m looking to buy a Bluetooth.”
As someone who has always adopted new platforms, personally I was using Bluetooth for transferring data between my cell phone LONG before I owned a Bluetooth headset. I don’t know why, but it irritates the heck out of me when someone refers to a Bluetooth headset as “a Bluetooth”. It’s probably because you don’t hear people going to buy a router saying “I need to buy a wireless”.
So I want to address those who call it “a Bluetooth” and give you some insight on other things that Bluetooth does.
- Data – As mentioned, Bluetooth can be used to transfer data from devices such as cell phones – albeit a bit slow.
- Headphones – Did you know that there are headphones that are Bluetooth?
- Input devices – Apple’s main mouse (the “Magic Mouse”) is run on Bluetooth technology.
Of course, these are only a few examples, and there are many more. So I’m begging you, next time you go to purchase a new Bluetooth headset, please don’t call it “a Bluetooth.”
