Afternoon my fellow geeklings! I’ve got some casting news to report! First let’s start with the breaking news.
It’s just been reported that Superman Returns Brandon Routh is set to play not the Man of Steel but DC Comics superhero Ray Palmer aka The Atom. This superhero takes down bad guys by altering the size of his body as well as other objects. The Atom has been featured in many of DC’s animated series with Young Justice being his most recent but Arrow will mark his live-action debut. This news comes along the heels of Sin City‘s Devon Aoki being cast to play Katana while actor Karl Yune has been cast to play Katana’s husband Maseo Yamashiro as well as Oliver’s Hong Kong handler, with Peter Stormare set to play Count Vertigo.
I thought Routh was a good Superman given with what he had to work with. Since we’ve got our Man of Steel in Henry Cavill, I’m looking forward to what Routh brings as the Atom. The third season of Arrow premieres this October.
And now we journey to a galaxy far, far away for more casting news.
Yesterday it was announced that two more actors had been added to the Star Wars Episode VI roster and they are: Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen. According to Variety, Anderson is a British actor and parkour practitioner who showcased his skills in a 2012 ad for Sony, while Clarke is an American actress currently studying in the U.K. Her first film titled “The Moon and the Sun” will debut in 2015. While it remains unclear who these newcomers will play, back in November, Disney did announced a casting call for two characters named Rachel, a “beautiful, smart and athletic” 17- to 18-year-old woman, and Thomas, a “handsome, smart and athletic” 19-to 23-year-old man. We won’t really know who these characters are until the film hits theaters.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement.“The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent, and in casting ‘Episode VII,’ we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many traveled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film.” Talk about newbies! I wish them the best of luck and I’ll send some of that luck over to their fellow actor who’s a veteran Harrison Ford.
If you hadn’t heard, Harrison Ford had an accident on set. At first it was thought to be an ankle injury but alas he had broken his foot. So how’s he doing? Well on the Star Wars website an announcement was posted which stated that Ford is “doing well” however, production will halt for two weeks in August “while adjustments to the current production schedule are made.” Two weeks huh? That’s not so bad! I wish Han Solo a speedily recovery.
Star Wars: Episode VII is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015 with a big cast of actors that include Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Ridley, Ford, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, and Lupita Nyong’o. Looks like the cast has gotten diverse with more women and people of color in the cast. I’m looking forward to this film hope you all are too.
