The best thing I saw last week was Die Hard. In fact I saw 4 of them. Luckily for me the other day when I was running around doing errands I found a 4 disc box set of DVD’s for the low low Wal-Mart price of just $12. I had been looking at ordering the spiffy Blu-Ray set on Amazon and I realized I don’t really need the special features on these films and I just really wanted to watch them. Plus it’s not like these films were shot in high def, DVD quality should be more than good enough right?
Right indeed, they are great! I actually ended up watching the whole set start to finish once I got going. Seeing what are probably the 4 worse days in John McClane’s life all in row was a blast. And yes I’ve seen the 5th film and I’ll just say that I felt buying the 4 film box set would do me just fine. Now a quick rundown:
Die Hard – The OG. The original Die Hard holds up so much better than a lot of old action films. The real shocker is remembering how much hair Willis actually had back in the days. And of course, Alan Rickman, he is reason alone to go back and watch this film at least once a year. Which I do. Along with Lethal Weapon this movie makes my Xmas season movie fest every year. It’s just not Xmas until I watch Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and A Christmas Story.
Die Hard 2: Die Harder – Checklist: McClane, check. Xmas, check. Reginald VelJohnson, check. Terrorists down to do some dirty deeds with a twist, check. And my favorite kill in an action movie ever, icicle through the eye!
Die Hard with a Vengeance – Hans had a brother! Oh shit! Plus Jeremy Irons and Samuel L. “The L stands for Bad Ass Motherfucker” Jackson.
Live Free or Die Hard – McClane facing off against a world of tech that he just really doesn’t understand. Facing the villainous Timothy Olyphantastic with the help of Justin Long and Kevin Smith. This is kinda of where things started going off the rails. But seriously it has some great scenes and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as little Lucy McClane all growed up is great.
Wrap all those together and you’ve got yourself a weekend for of awesome. How awesome, the band Guys Night Out thought these films were so awesome they needed a song, here’s the video:
