Joseph Gordon-Levitt tweeted over the weekend that he would be working with Batman writer David Goyer and the man himself Neil Gaiman on developing the comic scribe’s seminal work into a live screen adaptation. The Lord of Dreams, Morpheus, Oneiros, and Dream are some of the aliases Sandman goes by in the story of his return to the world after 70 years of imprisonment. One of the Endless, a group of super-powerful siblings a few steps above Gods that embody the primal forces of the universe, Dream is the master of dreams, stories, and anything not set in reality.
Sandman and Gaiman have been thru the Hollywood ringer in several attempts to bring the character to both small and big screens. From a proposed HBO series, to movies, to Warner Bros.’ attempt to popularize the character’s story on the small screen, Morpheus has been in Hollywood limbo for decades. With a name like Levitt attached to it along with powerhouse Goyer and the writer himself signing up to work on it, it looks like fans will finally see the slender Lord of Dreams brought to (hopefully) terrifying life.
Without going into too much detail, Joseph Gordon-Levitt clarified that he would be producing and starring in an unspecified role in the movie. With the star power already signed up, I can almost ignore the urge to want Tim Burton involved in at least the character design.
