Earlier today I read about an incredibly Geeky YouTube video which pushed close to 3 million views in a day. Now you might be thinking, ‘So, what’s fancy about that?’ Well ever since I was a young chap I’ve loved music from David Bowie. I have countless memories of singing a variety of Bowie songs on camping trips – including Space Oddity. I also LOVE to read about Space Exploration. Space exploration is something else that I’ve been following for a long time, so the idea of the two being combine had my geek meter through the roof.
That’s right, Commander Chris Hadfield took time on board the International Space Station to do a cover over David Bowie’s Space Oddity. While at first I thought this would be a some cheesy off-key version of the song, once I saw the video I realized how wrong I was. Considering where this was filmed – the production value is quite impressive. We’ve been seeing an increase in the entertainment side of the space programs and this is a prime example of the fun that needs to be captured more often.
I highly suggest you take the 5 minutes to watch the following video and if you’re anything like me – make sure to sing a long.
Oh and by the way… Hadfield is Canadian. Yep.
