Those who have followed the explosion of smartphone popularity will know that the “Pinch to Zoom” feature of iPhones and devices like it has been a key feature attributed to the touch screen success. If you’ve even remotely been following Apple or Samsung over the last year you’ll also know that they have been locked in several lawsuits with eachother all over the world. In one of the trial’s between the two companies, Apple’s “pinch-to-zoom” patent was contested by Samsung and as of Wednesday the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has temporarily invalidated this patent of Apple’s.

Whether or not this ruling will be upheld is yet to be known, but Apple is expected to contend this decision.
