Episode 034 “The Ultimate Camera Phone, Home Security, and a Slice of Pi”

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Buckle up for another information packed episode of digitalSoup as this week the guys tackle the RED Hydrogen One phone and some news from Samsung before diving into a listener question about Home Security Systems. Jason has decided to build a RetroPie box, we discuss The Munsters TV series getting a reboot, more great listener questions and even a way that you can mix your gaming and photography by editing photos in Adobe Lightroom using your Playstation or XBox controller!

—-more—-

Weekly Riddle:

Ripped from my mothers womb. Beaten and burned. I become a blood thirsty killer. What am I?

Answer at the end of the episode!

RED’s Hydrogen-One Phone

This is one crazy cell phone. With a planned release in 2018, it will feature a holographic display, will shoot 6K video and will allow modules to be attached to the camera to make it more like a DSLR.  Photographers and Cinematographers may be lining up, but will anyone else?

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with a last minute leak

Do they have one last trick up their sleeve just weeks before launch? The pressure is on!

Raspberry Pi 3 & RetroPie!

In the next few months Jason will be building his first RetroPie, utilizing the latest iteration of the Raspberry Pi.  He will be building it in a replica classic Nintendo chassis but hasn’t decided on which one to use … NES, SNES or N64.

The Munsters…Rebooted?
It appears that yet another classic old TV series is going to get the reboot treatment, along with a change of address. The classic show followed the Munster family as they tried to fit in out in sunny California, now they’ll be trying to mesh with a more common cultural setting seen today.

Editing Photos in Lightroom with a PS3/PS4 Controller
With some simple software additions to your PC you can set up your gaming controller to work as a controller for editing in Adobe Lightroom. Gamer Photographers rejoice the world over!

Episode 032 “Getting Chipped, John Wick’d, i3 Licked, and Other Podcasts Ticked”

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

It’s a laughter and rant filled week as Usually Dave makes people angry, the guys have some Apple issues while Jason tries out the iOS 11 beta. They tackle the John Wick series, AMD slaps down the i3 and a company called Three Square Market from Wisconsin is asking their employees to volunteer to be microchipped…that sounds like the start of a good sci-fi movie. Since it’s summer, dive right into this episode, the water is fine!

—-more—-

Weekly Riddle:

Tom and his younger sister were fighting. Their mother was tired of the fighting and decided to punish them by making them stand on the same piece of newspaper in a way that they couldn’t touch each other. How did she accomplish this?

Answer at the end of the episode!

Apple accidentally leaked iPhone 8 specs
In what might be the biggest face-palm, oops, Steve Urkel “did I do that” moment by Apple since the Touch Bar leaked via nearly the same methods, they accidentally released specs for some of the fancy new features and design of the upcoming “iPhone 8” that should be announced in September.

AMD Releases the Ryzen 3 to the world!

Last thursday AMD released two new CPUs in their Ryzen line, the lower end Ryzen 3 1200 and the higher end Ryzen 3 1300x.  Both are four core chips without multi-threading and are less expensive (although not by much) then their Intel i3 counterparts.  Intel’s i3 does edge out both chips in single threaded applications (do those still exist) but the Ryzen 3 does best then with multi-threaded applications.  It appears AMD now offers fantastic performance at every Ryzen tier.

Microchipping employees
This news broke a week or so ago about a Wisconsin company, Three Square Market, is now asking its employees to volunteer for an RFID microchip to be implanted in their hands, between the thumb and forefinger. Would you let your employer do it?

Episode 026 “Atari, Ryzen and Samsung Frames a TV”

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Kicking off with our huge announcement! That’s right, digitalSoup is an official member of the GonnaGeek.com Podcast Network!  The guys then dive into some more of Jason’s PC woe’s and his plans on his next build which includes the new Ryzen SKU. Atari announces the Ataribox, a mystery machine in the making. Samsung finally releases their new Frame TV at a premium price and then the conversation stays with TV and movies including a potential John Wick TV spinoff and a “What If” discussion about movies swapping cultures. Plus move over Pokemon Go because Garfield Go is now a real thing!

Weekly Riddle:
A man is trapped in a room. The room has only two possible exits: two doors. Through the first door there is a room constructed from magnifying glass. The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters. Through the second door there is a fire-breathing dragon. How does the man escape?
Answer at the end of the episode!

Atari is working on a new console called the Ataribox?!?!

Atari CEO Fred Chesnais told GamesBeat in an exclusive interview that his fabled video game company is working on a new game console.  Chesnais declined to describe a lot of details about the console. But he said it is based on PC technology. He said Atari is still working on the design and will reveal it at a later date.

Samsung’s Frame TV

The TV that looks like a piece of framed artwork on your wall is now available for purchase for the low price of $1999 – $2799 plus up to an additional $500 depending on how you want to customize the materials and look of the frame.

A John Wick TV Series in the works?
It looks like we’ll be seeing the universe of John Wick, the super mysterious world of assassins, brought into a TV Series mode. While no networks have been announced just yet, it’s in development at Lionsgate and is going by the working title of “The Continental”. Keanu is not the star, but is slated for guest appearances.

Garfield GO!

So in a true knock off of the popular Pokemon GO Mobile game, apparently Garfield GO is a real thing. Described on their site as a “brand new augmented reality treasure hunt game, featuring everyone’s favorite lasagna-loving cat!” you can now go adventuring with Garfield. Looks to be available on both iOS and Android and available in the US, Canada and Australia.

Episode 025 “Farewell Adam West, Hello Black Panther Trailer, LogMeIn Locks Jason Out and E3 Gaming News”

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditlinkedinmail

Busy week starting starting out with a big shoutout and thank you to The Naked Porch Podcast for a great review over on Apple Podcasts! Jason has a big issue with the LogMeIn service for remotely accessing PC’s and Adam has a few better alternatives to help him out. We say farewell to our original Batman, Adam West, as he passed away this last week. The Black Panther Trailer has dropped, it looks awesome but the guys still don’t know what it’s really about! Then it’s on to gaming with the XBox One X announcement and some other great gaming news coming out of the E3 2017 conference – plus a direct competitor to Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the newish game from publisher Tequila Works, called RiME.

WEEKLY RIDDLE:

We travelled the sea far and wide. At one time, two of my sailors were standing on opposite sides of the ship. One was looking west and the other one east. And at the same time, they could see each other clearly. How can that be possible?

ANSWER GIVEN AT THE END OF THE EPISODE!

Recommended Remote Access Options

Jason had some issues with LogMeIn…. Here are some alternatives that Adam recommended to help support your friends, family, and business.

For personal use: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/

For business: https://www.connectwise.com/software/control

Black Panther Trailer

In a great looking trailer, the guys are excited about this upcoming movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even though they have no real idea what it’s about.

Scorpio is now Xbox One X!

Launching November 7, the Xbox One X features the most powerful specs in the company’s history.  These specs allow the console to run the Xbox Oquine’s current library of games with faster load times, improved anisotropic filtering, and supersampling, which means the console’s current games will look sharper on 1080p televisions.

RiME

Released on May 26th, 2017 by developer Tequila Works and publisher Grey Box & Six Foot, this looks to be a direct competitor to Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However instead of being a Nintendo Switch only title, RiME is available on virtually all systems, including PC, so everyone can get their fix of some great large scale adventuring!

Days Gone Gameplay Trailer
Super intense zombie slaying game Jason found the trailer for a little while back and it’s now been announced as a Sony Exclusive title.

COOL THING OF THE WEEK

Mophie Wireless Charging Cases:
